TWO-TIME CHAMP BELLUCCI, NO. 2 SEED SIMON HEADLINE THURSDAY

DAY 4 PREVIEW: Thursday’s second-round action features four first-time showdowns on the ATP World Tour as two-time former champion and No. 2 seed open their J. Safra Sarasin Swiss Open campaigns at Arena.

Bellucci, the No. 4 seed, claimed the title here in 2009 as a qualifier (d. Beck) and 2012 (d. No. 8 Tipsarevic) – and it was during that qualifying campaign that he met for the first time. The German retired in the first set of their final round match. Switzerland has been a happy hunting ground for ’s Bellucci: three of his four ATP World Tour titles have been won here, including the first of his career in 2009 (also 2015 , d. Sousa).

Up next on Center Court, Bosnian Mirza Basic’s first clay-court win of the season has set up a second- round clash with 2013 champion , the No. 7 seed. Youzhny is one of three former champions in the field, along with Bellucci and 2007 winner Paul-Henri Mathieu, who booked his place in the quarter-finals on Wednesday. After opening with victories against their fellow countrymen, ’s and of the face off in the second round. Monteiro’s eight ATP-level matches in 2016 have all come on clay, where he has a 5-3 record coming into the match after beating Swiss teenager in the first round.
