The Washington Legislature adopted the state flag It’s an amazing game. It’s difficult to take up in 1923, more than thirty years after the state’s bridge and not get passionate about it. It’s so admission in 1889 as the 42nd state . It is of dark intensely gratifying when you do something green silk or bunting and has a reproduction of the right… and it’s so maddening when you do seal of the state of Washington embroidered, something wrong. - Omar Sharif printed, painted, or stamped in the center. Gilbert Stuart’s portrait of George Washington was used.

DANGERS Ê Ë Í Ì The route west was arduous, with many dangers. Even minor illnesses could cause death, and the pioneers had to often make their own medicines from herbs. It was common to bury dead people in unmarked, disguised graves to avoid having them dug up by animals or Indians. Disease, such as cholera and scurvy, followed by Indian attacks, were major killers of trail travelers. Indian attacks increased significantly after 1860, when most of the army troops were withdrawn and miners and ranchers began spreading out. Other common causes of death were hypothermia, drownings in river crossings (few knew how to swim), getting run over by wagons, and accidental gun deaths. Other deaths included homicides, lightning strikes, childbirth, stampedes, snake bites, flash floods, falling trees, and kicks by animals. As many as 16,000 pioneers may have died on the trail. Well, at NABCs, of course! But one player at the San Diego NABC asked me, “aren’t all events at nationals national events?” Well, “nationals” are now called North American Bridge Championships, and no, they aren’t. The American League sponsors and conducts more than a thousand tournaments a year at which masterpoints are awarded. These tournaments are divided into several classes depending on the importance of the event, the territory represented, the movement used, the conditions of sponsorship, and the number of entries. Each major NABC event is only held once a year, split among the three North American tournaments. Platinum masterpoints are awarded in nationally-rated events with no upper limits at the NABCs. The most highly prized team trophies are for the bolded events. The “Player of the Year” award is determined strictly on the basis of platinum points.
