Find the manufacturer name as marked on the device (usually on the ID plate). Step 2. Search the Index of Device Manufacturers for that name and note the Mfr. Code. Step 3. Search the Listing of Approved Devices for that Mfr. Code and then search the Model column for the model numbers in question. Introduction This is the most recent Publication 725 and contains a listing of weighing and measuring devices, which have been approved for commercial use in New York State. The publication covers Certificates of Approval from number 5470 to number 9731 issued from January 14, 1985 through July 2, 2015. Approvals issued before January 14, 1985 (mostly antiquated or obsolete equipment) may be found in the original Circular 725 and in the First through Fifth Supplements. By regulation, commercially used weighing and measuring devices must be approved prior to the sale or use in the State. New York’s Type Approval Program has been active since 1930 and today is working in concert with the National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP) under the National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Finding a particular device in this publication is a two step process. Begin by finding the manufacturer code in the Index of Device Manufacturers, which is sorted in alphabetical order by company name. The manufacturer code permits rapid cross-referencing of device manufacturers who have changed names or merged with another company. Once you have the manufacturer code, you search the Listing of Approved Devices for the manufacturer code and then under the model column for the particular model. The sort order is by manufacturer code (alphabetical), by certificate number (decreasing order, most recent first), and by device model number (alphabetical). Be sure to check all entries listed for that manufacturer code for the model in question. By design, the listings are brief and only provide limited information. If you require specific technical information on a particular device, contact our Campus Office at the phone number listed in this publication. We will try to answer your questions regarding a certificate and/or supply a copy of the Certificate of Approval (or NTEP Certificate of Conformance) which contains technical information on the device and the scope of the approval. You may also contact the manufacturer. The listing of model numbers incorporates “wild card” characters (lower case x,y,z). The “wild card” characters are used to cover digits that do not affect the approval status of the device family or series. In general, the “wild card” may be replaced with any letter from A to Z or any numerical digits from 0 to 9. For example, the model series 1000, 1001, 1002 etc may be shown as 100x.
