STAPLES Center and L.A Live - site of the Pacific Life Pac-10 Tournament PAC-10 TOURNAMENT 2011 PACIFIC LIFE PAC-10 TOURNAMENT Staples Center will continue to host the Paci!c Life Pac-10 Tournament in 2011, with games played Wednesday, March 9 through Saturday, March 12. This is the 10th consecutive year that Staples Center has served as the host site of the Pac-10 Tournament. However, there will be a new twist to the Pac-10 Tournament this season as the women will join the men in Staples Center and play their semi!nal games on the afternoon of Friday, March 11, and their championshp game on the morning of Saturday, March 12. Opening rounds and quarter!nal play of the Pac- 10 women’s basketball tournament will be conducted at USC's Galen Center in Los Angeles, Wednesday, March 9 and Thursday, March 10. FSN, the Pac-10's television partner, will broadcast both games on Wednesday, the quarter!nals on Thursday and the semi!nals on Friday. Saturday's championship game will be broadcast by CBS-TV. The Pac-10 Conference previously held a 10-team postseason tournament from 1987-90. On October 23, 2000, the Pac-10 CEO Group/Council voted to institute a Pac-10 men's basketball tournament following the 2002 season. The original Pac-10 Tournament was inaugurated following the 1986-87 season at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion where the host UCLA Bruins captured the !rst Pac-10 postsea- son title. Subsequent Tournaments were held at Arizona’s McKale Center (1988), the Great Western Forum in Los Angeles (1989), and Arizona State’s University Activity Center (1990). Arizona's Sean Elliott was tabbed the Most Outstanding Player in 1988 and again in 1989 as he led the Wildcats to a pair of Pac-10 crowns. Arizona captured its third Pac-10 crown following the 1990 season, which happened to mark the end of the !rst run of the Pac-10 Tournament. The Wildcats made it four in a row with the return of the Pac-10 Tournament in 2002. However, the streak ended there as Oregon captured the tournament crown in 2003. In 2004, Stanford nearly ran the table in the regular season, !nishing league play with a 17-1 record. It's only loss came at Washington in the last game of the season. However, the Cardinal retaliated with a 77-66 victory over Washington in the championship game to capture the school's !rst-ever postseason conference crown. In 2005, it was Washington's turn. For the fourth consecutive year, a different school cut down the nets on Saturday as the Huskies claimed their !rst Pac-10 Tournament crown with a 81-72 victory over Arizona. The UCLA Bruins were the !fth different team over !ve seasons to capture the Pac-10 Tournament title with their 71-52 victory over California in the 2006 championship game. What was different about the 2006 Paci!c Life Tournament? It was the !rst time since the Pac-10 resurrected the league tournament that all 10 Pac-10 teams participated. In the previous four tournaments, only the top eight teams quali!ed for the Pac-10 Tournament. Oregon returned to the award stand in 2007 with its' 81-57 victory over USC in the championship game. A record 84,477 fans attended the four-day Tournament. UCLA returned to the victory stand in 2008 with its 67-64 win over Stanford, catapulting the Bruins to their third consecutive NCAA Final Four appearance. In 2009, USC became the lowest seeded team to win the Pac-10 Tournament. The Trojans entered tournament play as the No. 6 seed, then proceded to knock off No. 3 California and No. 2 UCLA to reach the championship game. It was the fourth time USC played in the championship game, but this time it came out victorious with a 66-63 win over No. 4 Arizona State to win the Pac-10 Tournament crown. Washington raised the championship hardware for the second time, with a 79-75 win over California in the 2010 Pac-10 Tournament. 2011 PACIFIC LIFE PAC-10 TOURNAMENT BRACKET Wed., March 9 Thurs., March 10 Fri., March 11 Sat., March 12 No. 4 Seed 12 noon - FSN No. 5 Seed 6:00 p.m. - FSN No. 1 Seed No. 8 Seed 2:30 p.m. - FSN 6:00 p.m. - FSN No. 9 Seed 3:10 or 3:15 p.m. No. 2 Seed CBS 2011 Pac-10 Tournament Champions No. 7 Seed 6:00 p.m. - FSN 8:30 p.m. - FSN No. 10 Seed 8:30 p.m. - FSN No. 3 Seed 8:30 p.m. - FSN No. 6 Seed 46 2010-112010-11 MEN'S MEN'S BASKET BASKETBALLBALL // PAC-10 TOURNATEAMMENTS 2011 PACIFIC LIFE PAC-10 TOURNAMENT PAC-10 TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE-SEEDING AND TIE-BREAKING PROCEDURES Seeding: The seedings and pairings shall be determined upon completion of regular season play on Saturday, March 5.
