The World Tour Grand Finals involves the best players from the 2019 ITTF World Tour, which comprises of 12 events in 12 countries during the year. The top 16 men and 16 women, the top 8 Men’s, Women’s and Mixed doubles pairs will be making the trip to the $1,001,000 event. This preview is designed to provide an update on the Agricultural Bank of China 2019 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals. Enclosed are statistics and notes that will be of assistance during the tournament. Players’ biographies as well as statistical, historical and personal data may be found on ITTF.com. Men’s and Women’s Singles will each have 16 players, Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles will each have 8 pairs. Seeding of the players or pairs is determined by the final order of the World Tour Standing. Men’s and Women’s Singles • Will be conducted as knockout events • Draw will be conducted according to ITTF and World Tour Regulations. • There will be no separation by Association. • All matches shall be the best of 7 games Men’s and Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles • Will be conducted as knockout events. • Draw will be conducted according to ITTF and World Tour Regulations. • There will be no separation by Association. • All matches shall be the best of 5 games The Winner, Runner Up and two semi-finalists pairs of Mixed Doubles will qualify to Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, provided they are otherwise eligible. #ITTFWorldTour ２ The tournament will be played in accordance with the Laws of Table Tennis and the Regulations for International Competitions. How does it work? Men’s & Women’s Singles Places available: 15 players with the most points from the 2019 World Tour events, plus one host country player that meets the below criteria. If the player from the host association is already amongst the 15 invited players or does not meet the participation criteria, the 16th player in order will be invited. Criteria: Have to play in a minimum of 5 events Men’s, Women’s & Mixed Doubles Places available: 7 doubles pairing with the most points, plus one host country player that meets the below criteria. If the pair from the host association is already amongst the 7 invited players or does not meet the participation criteria, the 8th pair in order will be invited.     ACROSS THE NET Melton Table Tennis February 2019 Edition 52 2019 PREVIEW, STARS OF LAST YEAR, STAR AWARDS WRAP, STARS AT PLAY, & MUCH MORE In this edition, we look forward to another year, look back on our presentation night, discuss the annual Star Awards, discuss the only American to win a Singles World Championship, and talk about government funding (or the lack of it). WE’RE BACK Another year kicks off, and it’s going to be a big one. The practice nights were well attended and introduced quite a few new faces to the club. We are already underway with our Summer season, and it’s great to see the hall full of happy, competitive people enjoying themselves. Over the next few months we can hopefully unveil some new initiatives around the club. Stay tuned for news to come. PRESENTATION NIGHT A ROARING SUCCESS What a great night we had at our 2018 Presentation Night. Good food, marvellous music, great atmosphere, wonderful friends, and over 100 trophies going to nearly 60 very deserving winners. Our club band, Ping Pong had everyone entertained with some great music all night long. Many thanks to Simon Reich, John Batty and Josh Dias for playing some great tunes all through the night. And how lucky we were to have Olympian, Paralympian, and Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist, Melissa Tapper as our guest speaker. Milly certainly entertained and inspired us all with her story, and was very generous with her time, talking to members and posing for quite a lot of selfies. But the star of the night was the magnificent cake made by Andy Stewart.
