Summer Season • 2013 Welcome to Americana Theatre Company’s third summer season!

We are thrilled to be performing once again in Plymouth Center for the Arts and thankful for their investment in the community. We have a very talented cast, crew and creative team who have traveled from all over the country to bring you stories that entertain, stories that matter.

An Inspector Calls is a personal favorite of mine and am thrilled that award- winning director, Marianne Savell agreed to take on this piece. In addition, Carver native , Jesse Sullivan hails from NYC to play our Inspector Goole. challenges us to examine our responsibility to one another. What beautiful or disastrous consequences do we impose on the people who wander into the tangled webs we weave?

Welcome Back by popular demand is the production that audiences call “absolutely From breathtaking!” Redeeming Love is one of the most powerful stories of re- demption ever written. Inspired by the Bible’s book of Hosea, we meet An- gel, a girl who was sold into prostitution as a child. Embittered and broken, The Artistic she meets a farmer, Michael Hosea who is on a mission to prove to her that true love exists. We come away from this performance with open hearts to those who perhaps need the second, third and fourth chance to become the person they were meant to be. Thank you for making the Americana Theatre Company your home for sum- mer entertainment. We are glad that you are here and we hope you tell your friends about us. •

See you on the stage,

You can count on us to bring you Stories that Entertain, and Stories That Matter. Derek G. Martin, Artistic Director A Word from the Director

I’ve had a bit of history with the play An Inspector Calls. Starting out in the theatre business I agreed to stage manage a production in Se- attle, WA. As a young actor I believed stage managing would teach me more about storytelling and about the craft. The production was quite good and what I learned most was how to illuminate a theme An Inspector as an actor (as one of the performers so clearly did night after night). A few years later, the brilliant production directed by J.B. Priestly was playing in London while I was studying and acting there and I had the privilege of experiencing that Inspector with its dollhouse on stilts, rain on stage and the crashing of the house down into the Calls/ street. Very powerful and striking. Yet, when I read the play now, Performed with permission by Dramatist Play Service, INC there is so much more to it that excites me than the bold directorial Cast choices of that London production.

Director ...... Marianne Savell The play is quite difficult. It’s a series of reactions that build and play The Inspector ...... Jesse Sullivan off each other. It’s a perfectly set up game of dominoes. Set in an Arthur Birling ...... Tim Stanlake English industrial city in 1912 (same year as the exquisite first season Sybil Birling ...... Elizabeth Maryanne Litwak of Downton Abbey), this play is about human’s inhumanity towards Gerald Croft ...... Terrance J. Ganser humans. Ultimately the play calls us to responsibility. And you know Sheila Birling ...... Hogen Miller what? We need to heed the call. We need this story. Thankfully, Mr. Eric Birling ...... Joshua Nicholson Priestley wrote a passionate play, full of humor and truth to help the Edward ...... Bob Hollis medicine go down. • Production Stage Manager ...... Brittney Reimert Assistant Stage Manager ...... Chelsea Licudine - Marianne Savell Run Crew ...... Zack Licudine Costumer ...... Judy Holland-Geary Costumer ...... C.J. Hill Ultimately the play calls us Setting to responsibility.

I began leading drama ministries in 1998, and I have received scores of suggestions from well-meaning folks asking me to adapt their favorite novels into dramas. When one of my wife’s friends handed me a copy of Redeeming Love, I had no interest. The cover image seemed straight out of the low quality romantic novel genre, with a beautiful heroine with blonde hair billowing in the wind. The cover Redeeming description suggested a run of the mill plot for bored women - a prostitute with a secret heart of gold, saved by a handsome, faithful farmer. The fact that the book was a retelling of the book of Hosea Francine Rivers didn’t grab my attention.
