Victoria C. Acuña True to its name, the Semper Lumina (Always the Light), which was successfully first launched at Edsa Shangri-La, Manila last May 5, 2017 finally arrived home. Last Octo- ber 27, 2017, the Semper Lumina exhibit was relaunched at the UST Miguel de Benavides Library. This would be a chance for the Thomasian community to be proud and humbled that our University owns these precious collections housed in the Antonio Viven- cio Del Rosario UST Heritage Library and the Archives of the University of Santo To- mas respectively. The brief event was high- lighted with Fr. Angel Apari- cio’s warm welcome and presentation of the library’s resources, expenses, and usage statistics; followed by Mr. Joselito Zulueta’s historical review of the recently published Rare Books and Archives Catalogue; and Ms. Diana Padilla’s presentation and navigation of the UST Digital Library. Prof. Regalado Trota Jose gave the closing remarks. Semper Lumina is a sustainable project of the UST Miguel de Benavides Library and the University Archives in collaboration with the Union Bank of the Philippines aiming at the preservation and dissemination of the University’s priceless collections to a wider world. The Philippine Historical Association is a professional and honor association of historians, history teachers and researchers in the Philippines, founded in 1955 by a group of historians that include Encarnacion Alzona, Gabriel Fabella, Gregorio Zaide, Nicolas Zafra, Celedonio Resurreccion, Teodoro Agoncillo, Esteban de Ocampo and Fr. Horacio dela Costa. A non- stock, non-profit, non-sectarian and non-partisan organization, its main objective is to promote and propagate historical knowledge and studies through conferences, training programs and publications. It is affiliated with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Philippine Social Science Council. Historical education, a broad field of research and learning which includes the teaching of history, harnessing historical thinking skills, training in historiography and dissemination of historical knowledge should be given priority in this fast changing world. In the age of globalization and with the ASEAN integration in 2015, historical education both in the local and regional levels require a convergence of ideas from historians, teachers, researchers and various practitioners related to the field of history. In our time, historical education should be viewed in various levels and institutions of our society.

    Biography of participants Ronald A. DePinho Ronald A. DePinho was born in the Bronx, NY in 1955. He earned a bachelor's degree in biological sciences in 1977 from Fordham University, where he graduated summa cum laude as class salutatorian. He received his medical degree with distinction in microbiology and immunology in 1981 from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He was the fourth president of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and is internationally recognized for basic and translational research in cancer, aging and age-associated degenerative disorders. He was inducted into the National Academy of Sciences in 2012. He was only the fourth full-time president in the 70-year history of MD Anderson. He announced his resignation on March 8, 2017, after scrutiny over the administration of the organization had put him in the spotlight, and remained through the end of the 85th Texas Legislative Session. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Gebreyesusv Dr. Tedros Adhanom Gebreyesusv is an Ethiopian politician, academic, and public-health authority who since 2017 has been Director-General of the World Health Organization. He served in the Government of Ethiopia as Minister of Health from 2005 to 2012 and as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2012 to 2016. Born March 3, 1965 in Asmara, Tedros joined the Ministry of Health in 1986, after graduating from the University of Asmara. An internationally recognized malaria researcher, as Minister of Health, Tedros received praise for a number of innovative and system-wide health reforms that substantially improved access to health services and key outcomes.
