NAMI Ending the Silence for Families Monday, September 30 at 6:30 PM

This is a 1-hour presentation for adults with middle or high school aged youth that includes warning signs, facts and statistics, how to talk with your child, and how to work with school staff. This session is presented by NAMI Washington County. Learn more about NAMI here.

Cybersecurity for Seniors Tuesday, October 1 at 1 PM

Are you afraid to shop online or use social media? You don't have to be! This program is designed to discuss safe Internet practices to encourage reluctant seniors to take advantage of online resources. If you understand what you should share and what you should not, you can safely navigate a vast world of entertainment, online shopping, and social media.

Preventing Identity Theft Tuesday, October 1 at 6:30 PM

Many of us have experienced identity theft either first hand or through someone close to us. While it is still a risk, there are activities we can do to put us in a better position to manage our financial identities safely and securely. This talk will encourage the participants to use online resources safely, including how to request free credit reports and financial account management tools.

The History of Blacksmiths in Washington County Wednesday, October 2 at 7 PM

Southeastern Wisconsin has a rich history of blacksmithing and Washington County is no exception. Through photos, stories, and historical information, join Sam Laturi, blacksmith at StormCloak Forge LLC as he explores this rich heritage from the first settler smiths to make the area their home to the award winning smiths who still do today. On Wednesdays, we wear pink, but on Thursday you CAN sit with us as we show the 2004 teen comedy, "Mean Girls." Rated PG-13 and runs 97 minutes. Feel free to bring snacks and drinks!

Classic Movie Friday: The Ghost Breakers (1940) Friday, October 4 at 1 PM

Mary Cater () inherits her family's ancestral home. Despite warnings and death threats, she decides to take possession of the reputedly haunted castle. She is joined by radio broadcaster Larry Lawrence () who, believing he was killed by a mob gunman, flees New York with his butler Alex. The threesome proceed to investigate the mystery of the haunted castle. No registration necessary. Film runs for 1 hour & 24 minutes.

Packers Century Project Tuesday, October 8 at 7 PM

Commemorate the centennial of the founding of the Green Bay Packers! Learn about the history of the Green Bay Packers from renowned author, speaker, and sports historian Jim Rice. The "Packers Century Project" is a pictorial history of the Packers, including photos of Jim's extensive Packer memorabilia collection that traces the team's history from Lambeau to LaFleur. All the great games, players, and moments will be included.

Needles in the Bookstacks Mondays in October- October 7, October 14, October 21, and October 28 at 6:30 PM

Free time and space to work on your own fiber arts projects! Bring your friends to knit, stitch, or crochet together! All ages and experience levels are welcome; bring your yourself, your friends, your parents or your kids! Check it out on Facebook!

​​Reading with Rover Mondays in October!

The Washington County Humane Society partners with the West Bend Community Memorial Library to offer this program to children: a weekly opportunity for kids, who can read independently, to practice reading aloud one-on-one with certified therapy dogs. The dogs are a patient, nonjudgmental listening ear for the kids to help them gain confidence and become better readers. Volunteers from the Washington County Humane Society visit the library with their personal pet. Volunteers in this program must be registered WCHS volunteers and must have a certified therapy dog.

Afternoon sessions will go from 3:30 PM - 5 PM.

Anime Manga Club Tuesday, October 8 at 4:30 PM

Anime Manga Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month, year round, at 4:30 PM. We screen two episodes of a different anime each month, so we're usually done around 5:30. Cosplay is always welcome! For October, we're watching My Hero Academia. Club attendees pick next month's anime at the current month's meeting. The library subscribes to Japan Crate to get cool Japanese snacks to try each month. Check the library's calendar or the Facebook event for more info. Geared or those going into grades 5-12.

Don't Share Everything: Protecting Information for Teens Online Wednesday, October 9 at 5:30 PM

This program will focus on how teens and young adults can safely share information across social media platforms. In this talk, the presenter will provide scenarios about information sharing and potential scams currently being used. We will then discuss how to handle the scenarios, including tools to make good decisions as it involves sharing information. Geared for teens and parents are welcome to attend. No registration is necessary. Presented by Rob Ratayczak, a local information security specialist who has been in the field for over 20 years.

It's Lit: Teen Book Club Thursday, October 10 at 4:30 PM

For October, the teens have chosen to discuss Holes by Louis Sachar and screen the 2003 film (PG, 120 minutes). It's Lit meets once a month and is geared toward teens in grades 9-12, but younger folks are also welcome. No signup is required.

Sand and Secrets: Inside Where the Crawdads Sing Monday, October 14 at 6:30 PM

Librarian Hannah will give a presentation on Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. Learn more about the author, the setting, why it's such a hit, and what to read next. Beware, there may be spoilers! All ages are welcome at this event, but the book does contain some mature content. No registration is required.

The Page is Loading . . . Preteen Book Club Tuesday, October 15 at 4:30 PM

The Page is Loading... is a bring-your-own-book club. We don't assign a book, just come ready to talk about something you've read lately, or your favorite book ever, or just books in general. If you're stuck in a rut, come by to get suggestions for new books. Just finished something great? Come tell us all about it! Geared toward preteens (grades 4- 6), but older teens are also welcome. The Page is Loading meets once a month, typically the third Tuesday of the month from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Thyroid Health 101 Tuesday, October 15 at 6:30 PM

Join us for an interactive educational session! Do you know what your thyroid does and why it is important? Come learn about this important part of your body and common health issues seen with it. Bring your questions and experiences as we discuss ways to stay healthy and improve your health. This program is led by staff from Aurora Healthcare.

SALT Thursday, October 17 at 4:30 PM

Want to get involved? Have ideas for library improvement? Want to add some pizzazz to your resume or college application? The Super Awesome Library Teens - SALT - for short - meet once a month to discuss how to make the library a better place for teens and preteens. We also play games, do crafts, and eat snacks. SALT meets on Thursday at 4:30 PM, typically the same week as The Page is Loading. SALT is members only. To learn more and apply, contact Hannah at the library.

STEM Monster Mash Escape Room Friday, October 18 - THREE SESSIONS: 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, and 11:30 AM

Join us for a seasonal escape room on a WBSD no- school day! This activity is geared for grades 1-5, but we will allow parents to join the fun to help the students "escape"! Each session lasts approximately 45 minutes. Registration begins by October 1st by phone or in-library. Our escape rooms involve unlocking a variety of locks to get inside a box. The room is not actually locked and you can come and go if necessary.

Reading with Rover: SATURDAY EDITION Saturday, October 19 at 9:30 AM

Help your independently-reading child boost confidence & self-esteem, increase reading fluency, and reduce stress by reading to a non-judgmental canine friend! Thanks to the Washington County Humane Society, kids will have the chance to read to Reggie on the third Saturday of October and November. Sign up for a 15 minute time slot with the librarian at the children's desk on the first floor.

Symphony Storytime Saturday, October 19 at 10 AM

Join us for a storytime hosted by a couple of Kettle Moraine Symphony members! Geared for elementary age children.

Essential Oils of Autumn Monday, October 21 at 6 PM

Learn how to increase the life of your carved pumpkin, how to make lovely hostess gifts, and get tips for festive gatherings. Betty Jo will go over basic rules for working with essential oils and tell you "must-haves" for the season. Free recipes included!

Memory Cafe Tuesday, October 22 at 1:30-3 PM

The theme for this month's Memory Cafe is Sight, Smells, and Sounds of Autumn. Memory Cafés are places where persons with MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment), early- stage Alzheimer’s, or a related dementia can go with their care partners to socialize and have fun with other people going through similar things. A Memory Café has no real agenda or stated purpose except to enjoy each other’s company. Cafés provide a time where you do not need to focus on the diagnosis, while having a great time connecting with each other as a family or creating new friendships.

NAMI: In Our Own Voice Tuesday, October 22 at 6:30 PM

NAMI In Our Own Voice presentations change attitudes, assumptions, and ideas about people with mental health conditions. These presentations provide a personal perspective of mental health conditions, as community leaders with lived experience talk openly about what it's like to have a mental health condition. Many thanks to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Washington County Chapter for putting on this amazing program.

Outlander Bookshelf Chat Wednesday, October 23 at 6:30 PM Gather with fellow Outlander fans to chat about the books & TV show, watch a slideshow of locations from the story, make a druid lantern, and play a trivia game. Events led by local expert Jody Allen. Guests will need to supply their own 2-liter plastic bottle (washed and dried). Decorating supplies will be provided, while supplies last. Donations of fake flowers and leaves are always appreciated. No registration is necessary. Adults only please!

S.T.O.P. Senior Frauds and Scams Thursday, October 24 at 1 PM

Wisconsin Interfaith in Action Network is proud to offer educational programming for seniors on frauds and scams. By attending this presentation, you'll learn to identify and protect yourself against several common scams.

Crafting Saturday: Felt Coasters Saturday, October 26 at 10 AM - 12 PM

The weather is getting chilly, and everything is pumpkin spice! Stop on by Crafting Saturday to make a felt coaster for your latte or hot beverage of choice. Program is free, though donations are greatly appreciated to offset program cost. All supplies are provided; while supplies last. Program is geared for adults but all are welcome; children MUST be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Costume Party Fall Storytimes Tuesday, October 29 at 10 AM Wednesday, October 30 at 10 AM Thursday, October 31 at 6:30 PM

Wear a costume to storytime if you'd like! We'll have autumn and pumpkin-themed stories, songs, and games. We will do a short costume parade inside the library after storytime. You may bring a treat to share with the group if you'd like. Treats can be individually wrapped crackers, granola bars, candy, or things like stickers, pencils, or bubbles. (One bag per family is suitable). We will have non-food 'teal pumpkin bags' for children with allergies or sensitivities.

Babies in Costume Storytime Wednesday, October 30 at 9:15 AM

Bring your 0-24 month old babies and/or toddlers to the library in a costume! Storytime begins at 9:15 AM.

"Let it Go"... again? Frozen Party TWO SESSIONS: Friday, November 1 and Saturday, November 2 at 10 AM

To celebrate Frozen 2 coming out in theaters in November, we'll be having a Frozen sing-along and enjoying Frozen- themed stories, games, and fun! * Wearing a Frozen costume, princess dress, or your finest apparel is encouraged. Storytime for Kids

We have several storytime sessions each week to choose from. Visit our website for more information on Storytimes.

Baby/Toddler Storytime takes place on Wednesdays at 9:15 AM and is for ages 0-24 months. This is about 15 minutes of songs, rhymes, and very short stories and always ends with bubbles and playtime! Preschool Storytime sessions usually last about 25 minutes and consist of stories, songs, and rhymes, and the children can stay after storytime for a craft. Preschool storytime takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10 AM. We usually have storytimes on Thursday nights at 6:30 PM, except on Thursdays we have family night.
