The long process of development and financing began in 2005 and filming finally ended in April 2010. Tilda Swinton plays Kevin's mother, trying to reach an agreement with her son and the murders she committed. The film premiered at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival and was released in the UK on 21 October 2011. Argument teen Kevin Hutchadyryan (Ezra Miller) is in jail after committing a crime. Her mother, Eva (Tilda Swinton), once a successful travel writer, lives alone in a decaying house and works in a shopping mall for a travel agency in a town near the prison where she visits Kevin. She remembers growing up and, in turn, trying to cope with the anger and hostility of his neighbors, who know that she is Kevin's mother. His memories appear in retrospective scenes. Kevin's life was independent and difficult. He had nothing to do with his mother: when he was a child, he cried incessantly, resisted learning to go to the toilet, rejected displays of love and seemed uninterested in anything. As a child, Eva's frustration with her incorrigible son causes her to throw Kevin against the wall, breaking her arm. When Eva tries to talk to her husband Franklin (John C. Reilly) about her growing concern about Kevin's problems, she dismisses her concerns and justifies Kevin's behavior. Her second daughter, Celia, is lively and cheerful. Kevin finally takes an interest in something when Franklin gives him a bow and arrow and shows him archery. The boy becomes a great shooter. When Seli's pet is killed and the girl is blind in one eye because of her brother, Eva is convinced that Kevin made them intentionally for both. At the same time, Franklin insists that these events were accidents and that his son is innocent. This pattern of suspicion on the part of Eve and her husband's excuses heightens the writer's fear for her son, as she begins to see growing signs in the teenage pleasure of hurting others. The culmination of this is the conspiracy and execution of numerous murders, including his father, Seli, his teachers and classmates, as well as after his imprisonment for committing a massacre at his school. Starring Tilda Swinton as Eva Khachadurian. John C. Reilly as Franklin Plaskett. Ezra Miller as Kevin Khachadurian. Jasper Newell as Kevin when he was six. Rocky Dohr as Kevin as a kid. Ashley Gerasimovich as Celia Khachadurian. Siobhan Fallon Hogan as Wanda. Alex Manette as Colin. Production In 2005, BBC Films acquired the rights to adapt the book as a film. Executive producers Paula Jalfon and Christine Langan took over the development phase and were accompanied by executive producer Steven Soderbergh. Lynn Ramsay, who became available after her participation in the film adaptation of The Lovely Bones came to an end, signed a contract with the director and worked on the screenplay with writer Robert Festinger in 2006. Shriver was offered an advisory role in the production process, but dismissed it, saying she was up to the neck with the book, though she expressed interest in how the film would capture Eva's role as an unreliable narrator. Production did not begin by 2007, although BBC Films renewed the rights to the adaptation earlier this year. In an interview with The Herald in September 2007, Shriver said he had not contacted Ramsay to talk about the film for more than two years. Ramsay's spokesman told the newspaper that he was preparing a new version of the script and had not submitted it to the producers by the time the interview was published. Michael Clayton's production company, Jennifer Fox, joined the production team in 2008; Filming is expected to begin this year. The screenplay appeared in the 2008 Brit List, a compilation of the best scripts of the British film industry. Ramsay's partner, Rory Stuart Kinnear, also contributed to the final script. Christine Langan told the London Evening Standard in February 2010 that the delay in production was due to BBC Films' difficulties in funding a high budget; Ramsay rewrote the script so that the film could be shot at a lower price. The UK Film Board has awarded 18,510 pounds for the production of its development fund in Month. More financial support has been provided by Footprint Investments LLP, Caemhan Partnership LLP and Lipsync Productions, and production is in partnership with Artina Films and Forward Films. Filming began on April 19, 2010 in Stamford, Connecticut, and ended on May 28, 2010. The key location in the shooting was Stamford Technical School J.M. Wright. The music for the film was composed by Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead. Premiered in October 2009, IFC Films restored international rights to sale and made preliminary sales on the American film sold. Artificial Eye has been distributing the film in the UK since 21 October 2011. In the winter of 2011, Oscilloscope Laboratories distributed the film in U.S. theaters. The film premiered in 2011 at the Cannes Film Festival, where it was praised by film critics. We need to talk about Kevin being released on Blu-ray and DVD on May 29, 2012.
