Tony Hobson enters his seventh season as head coach of the Fort Hays State women’s basketball program in 2013-14. Hobson is one of the most successful active collegiate women’s basketball coaches in the nation, now in his his 22nd year of coaching overall with a career record of 519-174 (.749). In his seven years at Fort Hays State, Hobson has a record of 106-68. Last season, Hobson hit two career coaching milestones, surpassing the 500-wins mark for a career, and winning his 100th game at FHSU. On Dec. 7, 2013, Hobson recorded his 500th career win in the 67-53 victory at Missouri Western. Hobson picked up his 100th win at Fort Hays State in the Tigers’ regular season finale - a 55-39 victory over Northeastern State on Feb. 28, 2014. He owns three NAIA national championships as a coach, all collected in seven years as head coach at Hastings (Neb.) College. Hobson ranks in the top 10 in win percentage among active coaches in NCAA Division II with a four-year college win percentage of .745 (313-107). FHSU posted its third consecutive 20-win season for the first time in school history in 2013-14, going 21-8 under the direction of Hobson. The Tigers were nationally ranked four weeks during the season, tabbed as high as No. 23 in the Jan. 14, 2014 poll. FHSU finished fifth in the conference during the regular season (12-7 MIAA) and reached the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament for the Head Coach second year in a row, picking up first round and quarterfinal wins over Nebraska-Kearney and Missouri Southern, respectively. It was Tony Hobson the fifth MIAA Tournament appearance for FHSU with Hobson at the helm. Seventh Season Fort Hays State enjoyed its best season under Hobson in 2012-13, going 22-7 overall. FHSU appeared in the WBCA Division II national rankings for the first time since 1996-97. Fort Hays State eventually vaulted as high as No. 10 in the national rankings, its first- FHSU RECORD ever appearance in the Top 10. The Tigers finished in a tie for fifth in the MIAA regular season standings and reached the semifinals 106-68 (Seven Years) of the MIAA Tournament. FHSU recorded its first two wins in the MIAA Tournament since joining the conference with victories in the opening round and quarterfinals. FHSU made its fourth appearance in the MIAA Tournament under Hobson. The Tigers posted CAREER RECORD back-to-back seasons of at least 20 wins for the first time since the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons. 519-174 (22Years) In 2011-12, Hobson guided FHSU to a record of 20-9 overall mark with a fifth-place finish in the MIAA. Hobson recorded his PERSONAL FILE 450th career victory in 2011. Born Hobson came to Fort Hays State from Hastings College in Hastings, Neb., where he was head coach for seven years. Hobson March 29, 1959 won back-to-back NAIA National Championships in his first two seasons (2001-02 & 2002-03) as head coach at Hastings and led the school to another National Championship in 2005-06. He was named NAIA Coach of the Year three times, all for the national Hometown championship seasons. The championship in 2001-02 was the first basketball championship at any college level, men or women, in Hardy, Neb. the state of Nebraska. Hobson was an associate head coach at Hastings in 2000-01, hired a year early to take over the program the following year. Education Hastings College (1981) Hobson’s teams reached the 30-win plateau in five of his seven years as head coach at Hastings College. The 34 wins recorded by United States Sports the 2001-02 team are the most wins ever for a women’s basketball team in the state of Nebraska. His teams qualified for the NAIA Academy (1989) National Tournament all seven years and reached the Final Four in five of the seven years. He led Hastings College to Great Plains Athletic Conference regular season championships in 2004, 2006 and 2007 and conference tournament championships in 2002, 2003 COACHING STOPS and 2007. In his time at Hastings College, Hobson accumulated a record of 211-40. Fort Hays State Prior to his stint at Hastings College, Hobson was head women’s basketball coach at Barton County Community College in Head Coach Great Bend, Kan., from 1997-2000. At BCCC, he accumulated a record of 78-22 in three seasons, guiding the Cougars to a KJCCC 2008-Present West Division Championship and Region VI Final Four appearance in 1998-99, and a Region VI Championship and fifth place finish at Hastings College the NJCAA National Tournament in 1999-2000. The 1999-2000 team set a school record for wins in a season (34). Head Coach Hobson began his collegiate coaching career as the head coach of the Cloud County Community College women’s basketball 2001-08 program from 1983-1989, where he compiled a record of 124-44 in six seasons. He guided the Thunderbirds to the Region VI finals in 1984-85 and 1985-86. Associate Head Coach As a player, Hobson was a two-time all-conference and All-District 11 selection for Hastings College in 1980 and 1981. He 2000-01 played two seasons at Barton County Community College prior to the two years at Hastings College, garnering all-conference and Barton County CC all-region honors in 1979. Head Coach Hobson earned an associate’s degree from Barton County Community College in 1979 and a bachelor’s degree from Hastings 1994-97 College in Business Administration in 1981. He earned a master’s degree in Sports Administration from the United States Sports Academy in Mobile, Ala., in 1989. Cloud County CC Hobson is a native of Hardy, Neb. He and his wife, Becky, have two children, Samantha and Cash. Samantha is a member of the Head Coach Fort Hays State women’s golf team. 1983-89

2013-14 (Junior): Enjoyed one of the most significant statistical seasons in FHSU history, earning All-America Honorable Mention honors from Division II Bulletin and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association while being named First Team All-Central Region by Daktronics…For the second consecutive year, was named as the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year while earning All-MIAA First Team and All-Defensive team honors…Started all 29 games and averaging 16.5 points and 11.2 rebounds per game…Led NCAA Division II in blocks per game (5.3) and blocks (155), breaking her own school record in those categories as well, while climbing to No. 7 on the career blocks list for NCAA Division II with 374 total swats…Posted 20 double-doubles on the season in points-rebounds, including two triple doubles (points, rebounds and assists), just the second and third triple-doubles for FHSU’s NCAA Division II history… Finished 2013-14 season ranked first in NCAA Division II in blocks and triple-doubles (two), fourth with 20 double-doubles, 12th with 11.2 rebounds per game and 20th in field goal percentage (.554).
