    ACM Week With... Jameyas Vegas. April, 2009. Jamey Johnson ascends to the ACM stage to Johnson accept Song of the Year for “In Color.” He is planning a little-known Lemotional tribute for his upcoming performance on the show. And the next day, he’ll pay tribute to a man who, in many respects, made it all possible. Two years earlier at the same event, George Strait’s “Give It Away” won Song of the Year, and co-writer Johnson took heart. “That’s the song that in many ways revived my will to keep doing this,” he says. “Not that I decided I was going to quit, but him cutting that straight, traditional-type song showed me there’s an audience out there. It instilled hope in me that people were looking for that kind of music.” And for Johnson, unquestionably, the music is everything. Strait’s cut starts a chain of events that eventually results in Mercury picking up Johnson’s self- released That Lonesome Song, now a gold record and one of the most widely praised country albums in years. And an amazing weekend in Las Vegas helps show Johnson just how far that music has taken him. “It’s like being welcomed into a family,” Johnson says of his full-circle journey. “It’s just a huge honor.” Music First: Performing for two national television broadcasts, one live and one taped, is the entirety of Johnson’s focus leading up to the shows. “I brought my band and I’m playing live,” he tells Country Aircheck two days before the awards.

The annual Rodeo Austin Gala and Youth Art Auction, presented by Texas Mutual Insurance Company, will be held Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Palmer Events Center. One of Austin’s most phenomenal events, the night will include gourmet food, cocKtails, a live and silent auction and live music. This event serves as the largest fundraiser for Rodeo Austin outside of the Fair and Rodeo in March. Johnson is an eleven-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter. His 2008 album, That Lonesome Song, was certified platinum and his 2010 double album, The Guitar Song, received a gold certification. He is one of only a few artists to win two Song of the Year Awards from both the Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music. Johnson’s song “In Color” was his first Top Ten Country hit. Johnson will follow special guest Lee Ann WomacK. During her career, WomacK has won numerous awards including Best New Female Vocalist from the Academy of Country Music. Her song “I Hope You Dance” won a Grammy for Best Country Song. Returning to the Rodeo Austin Gala this year is the Youth Art Show and Auction. His first record deal with DreamWorks Records came around in 1999, adding his name to an already rich roster of artists such as Toby Keith, Randy Travis, Emerson Drive, Jessica Andrews and Jimmy Wayne. This first deal brings forth Darryl’s debut album Hard Rain Don’t Last , released in 2000 and produced by Frank Rogers (Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, Josh Turner, Phil Vassar, Trace Adkins) and James Stroud (Clay Walker, Tracy Lawrence, Clint Black, Toby Keith, Lorrie Morgan).
