THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER (A) 26th April 2020

Parish Priest: Fr Andrew Connick [email protected] Parish Office: Please direct all enquiries to Fr Andrew for time being. Safeguarding Rep: Adele Schirinzi [email protected]

FR ANDREW WRITES: The Church is often accused of being slow to adapt. That’s certainly true! And in many ways it’s a good thing. After all, the world’s ways are not necessarily our ways. However, lockdown has prompted an online leap forward. Here in Wapping, we will begin live-streaming from next Sunday, 3rd May, with 10am Mass, on the YouTube channel. Please also join the (online) community on our Facebook group and follow the parish on Twitter. And let me know if you feel inspired to start something yourself, so I can advertise it to the parish. There are so many resources out there to help you in faith, it can be hard to know where to begin and what to trust. Every couple of weeks, I will share some suggestions with you. If you have time to try anything out, please get in touch and give me some feedback. It will help to know what’s been popular and beneficial. If you discover something yourself, please let me know, too. I certainly don’t know everything that’s out there! Some resources to get going (in the future I’ll put them in the “Prayer and Faith Resources” section below): Aquinas 101: Ever fancied learning some philosophy and theology? Aquinas 101 is a free and very accessible course comprising short videos from the Thomistic Institute (Dominican House of Studies). The wisdom of St Thomas Aquinas is applied to life’s urgent philosophical and theological questions. When you enrol, you’ll receive two emails a week with everything you need. https://aquinas101.thomisticinstitute.org Pause for Faith: Fr Stephen Wang, senior university chaplain in our and a great and clear thinker and speaker, podcasts daily about relevant subjects. This week he has also videoed a series on different ways to pray. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbrIxeH2TSwEc8eVwwMGv8w Robert Barron: Bishop Barron founded “Word on Fire”. He is my favourite speaker, and has lots of interesting videos on all sorts of topics, including the news, film and culture, as well as questions of faith. https://www.youtube.com/user/wordonfirevideo/

GENERAL NOTICES Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) – JRS UK has created a new Refugee Friends’ Hardship Fund to allow us to continue supporting our friends who are in an extremely vulnerable position during this outbreak. This fund will support our friends in new and creative ways, following the closure of our Day Centre due to health advice: https://www.jrsuk.net/hardshipfund/ | @JRSUK | FB /jesuitrefugeeserviceuk JRS is also looking for volunteer drivers to deliver packages of essential food and toiletries to the destitute refugees they support. They are in particular need at this time, and many of the current volunteers at JRS are elderly and self-isolating. https://www.jrsuk.net/volunteer/ Bow Foodbank – In these difficult times, local demand for the Foodbank is increasing. Given the difficulty of collecting food donations with the churches closed, and to safeguard the volunteers and clients on collection days, the Foodbank have arranged to give food vouchers for the time being, redeemable for food in local supermarkets. If you want to support this effort financially, you can donate online: http://www.bowfoodbank.org/wp/donate/
