DIRECTOR’S NOTES Welcome to Albright College’s first virtual concert of this year! Despite the challenges 2020 has presented, the Albright College music department is persisting. Ensembles are rehearsing, students are learning and growing, music is being made. Student safety, however, is paramount. The choral ensembles at Albright are rehearsing in a hybrid model, allocating only 45 minutes of in-person rehearsal for each ensemble. Students then practice music theory skills, sight reading exercises and their repertoire individually, furthering their musicianship. In rehearsal, students wear special Singers Resonance Masks, equipped with filters. Memorial Chapel has high quality ventilation and each practice room contains a HEPA filter. When entering and exiting the rehearsal space, traffic patterns are adhered to. These procedures have been put in place to ensure any potential risk factors are lowered significantly. The musical pieces chosen for this program were conceptualized to fit into a larger context, keeping in mind our current societal state. The characters in each piece are facing many issues, including racial injustice, the low confidence so many of us face (especially our youth) who burn with a desire to lift the voices of those around us. I hope that through the lens of these texts, we might apply some of the lessons to our own lives and bolster the voices of those around us to “let them hear you,” no matter who “them” and “you” are. It is a sincere pleasure to bring you this recorded program and hope it will help fill a part of your soul that yearns for music and connection. On a personal note, I would like to acknowledge the students at Albright with whom I have had the pleasure to work. These folks are among the hardest working and brightest students I have encountered. They are kind and real. They have made stepping into this new position incredibly special and I cannot speak highly enough of them. Jordan M. Shomper
