Another innovation this year which promiseS to be a popular one is the post-game party, including supper in the Park Tower Clubroom, 57 N. Somerville. Homecoming will go on into the eve ning as alumni gather here to celebrate and reminisce. • Rockhurst University Et Al. V. Factory Mutual Insurance Company
IN THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE WESTERN DISTRICT OF MISSOURI WESTERN DIVISION ROCKHURST UNIVERSITY, and MARYVILLE UNIVERSITY, individually and on behalf of Case No. other similarly situated institutions of higher education, COMPLAINT Plaintiffs, Class Action v. DEMAND FOR JURY TRIAL FACTORY MUTUAL INSURANCE COMPANY, Defendant. CLASS ACTION COMPLAINT AND DEMAND FOR JURY TRIAL Plaintiffs Rockhurst University and Maryville University (“Plaintiffs”), individually and on behalf of other similarly situated institutions of higher education, for its Class Action Complaint against Defendant Factory Mutual Insurance Company (“Defendant”), state and allege as follows: NATURE OF ACTION 1. Institutions of higher education have been hit particularly hard by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Since the disease began to spread rapidly across the country in late February and early March 2020, almost every college and university has taken drastic and unprecedented action to protect its students, faculty, staff, and the general public from COVID-19. This was no easy task. Most institutions of higher education are more like small- or medium-sized cities than mere schools. In addition to educating the future of America, they provide housing for hundreds or thousands of students; serve and sell food; operate stores; employ large numbers of teachers, administrators, and other employees; sponsor sports teams; host public events; and perform many other services. 1 Case 4:20-cv-00581-BCW Document 1 Filed 07/23/20 Page 1 of 22 2. On March 6, 2020, the University of Washington became the first major university to cancel in-person classes and exams.1 By the middle of March, others across the country had followed suit and more than 1,100 colleges and universities in all 50 state have canceled in-person classes and shifted to online-only instruction.

  • The Carl Fricks Sportsmanship Scholarship Presented by the Sports Commission Associates
THE CARL FRICKS SPORTSMANSHIP SCHOLARSHIP PRESENTED BY THE SPORTS COMMISSION ASSOCIATES PAST RECIPIENTS | 2009 - 2017 LEOR GOLDFARB - 2017 LADUE HIGH SCHOOL The Sports Commission Associates awarded Leor Goldfarb its top Sportsmanship Scholarship honor for 2017. The Ladue varsity wrestling and lacrosse captain will receive $10,000 to begin his college education. Leor’s class, humility and selflessness eclipse any feat he has achieved on the field or on the mat. In the semifinals of the district wrestling tournament, Leor was down seven points to his opponent from Hannibal. Late in the second period, Leor was injured by an illegal slam from his opponent. The referee gave him two options: He could have his opponent disqualified for the illegal move and automatically advance to the state finals or forfeit the match and allow his opponent to advance. Leor chose to forfeit the match and let his opponent move on to state. In a letter to the Ladue superintendent, Hannibal coach Derek Greening said, “I am not sure how many individuals and coaches would make the same decision. It takes an enormous amount of character and class to make a decision like this. In 16 years of coaching, I have seen many students default for much less to guarantee themselves a win.” This is just one instance that exemplifies Leor’s sportsmanship. He’s known for being supportive of teammates and opponents alike, and as relayed by his athletic director, Leor “knows what happens in sports is greater than the outcome of the game or match being held.” MATT FERENCE - 2017 LAFAYETTE HIGH SCHOOL Matt Ference played football and baseball at Lafayette High School, but it is the way he channeled his talent into remarkable kindness that makes him worthy of the Sportsmanship Scholarship.

  • Illinois Student Assistance Commission Announces 2017-18 Illinois State Scholars
Illinois Student Assistance Commission announces 2017-18 Illinois State Scholars December 5 2016 3:41 PM More Than 19,300 high school students recognized for outstanding academic achievement Deerfield, Ill. – The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) is pleased to announce the names of the 2017-18 Illinois State Scholars. This year’s recipients join the ranks of other exceptional Illinois high school students honored with this prestigious designation. First introduced in 1958, Illinois State Scholars are recognized for their superior academic achievement. State Scholars rank in approximately the top ten percent of high school seniors from 765 high schools across the state. Honorees are chosen based on a combination of exemplary ACT or SAT test scores and sixth semester class rank. “I applaud all of the 2017-18 state scholars for their hard work and outstanding academic performance,” said Eric Zarnikow, ISAC executive director. “Students have a lot to contend with as they move through high school—from increased testing to extracurricular activities to highly competitive college admissions. Kudos to these students and also to the teachers, parents, coaches and other mentors who contributed to their success and helped them navigate a path towards college and career success.” While this recognition does not include a monetary prize, congratulatory letters from ISAC have been sent to honorees, and the agency has provided personalized Certificates of Achievement to each high school for distribution. A list of current Illinois State Scholars can also be found on ISAC’s website. ISAC encourages students interested in attending college next fall to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible to determine eligibility for federal and state financial aid.
