IN THE REGION OF SIGUS OUM EL BOUAGHI (EASTERN ALGERIA) AMOKRANE ASSIA1, KHAMMAR HICHEM1, HADJAB RAMZI1, SAHEB MENOUAR1* 1 Laboratory of Functional Ecology and Environment, University of “Larbi Ben M'hidi”, Oum el Bouaghi, Algeria *Corresponding author: [email protected] ABSTRACT The Oum El Bouaghi region in Eastern Algeria, long considered as a cereal-growing area is nowadays a durum wheat production region par excellence. Although the damage caused by Coleoptera is very significant, studies on the knowledge of their diversity are few and remain limited for some entomological groups. Our work is the first step to evaluate the diversity of Coleoptera and the long-term impact of taking biological management measures against harmful fauna in favour of more environment friendly agriculture. To assess the beetle community, different sampling methods were combined (Barber trap, coloured traps, mowing net and sight hunting). Evaluation of the results of a single campaign showed that Coleoptera infested with durum wheat vary in abundance and diversity. We identified more than 100 species of Coleoptera belonging to 22 different families for a total number of 5698 individuals belonging mainly to the Carabidae, Curculionidae, Chrysomelidae, Scarabidae and Staphylinidae families. Although the majority of Coleoptera collected are pests of durum wheat crops (47.57%) the case of Tropinota hirta, Notaris sp or Oulema melanopus in particular, there was an interesting presence of predators (28.15%) the case of Carabidae or Staphylinidae in particular even with low relative abundance. The temporal evolution of the Coleoptera showed that the species diversity indicated a peak of abundance at the full tillering stage following an accentuated vegetative development of the host plant, and the presence of weeds. The data collected in this way constitute a basis for a preliminary knowledge of the durum wheat Coleoptera and can thus be used to design pest control strategies. From the last two to three decades the environmental problems are increases due to the over use of pesticides or other non-decomposing chemicals as well as products. Synthetic products and pesticides are very expensive and also highly toxic for humans and its environment. In order to overcome the above problems, there is urgent need to develop safe, convenient, environmentally friendly and low-cost alternatives. The aim of present study is to evaluate toxicity of nutmeg oil through contact and stomach mechanism against the larvae of Anthrenus verbasci under laboratory conditions (25±29 ºC and 60±68% RH). The mortality data thus obtained in both cases of mechanisms were first subjected to profit analysis using SPSS software and then later the transformed data were used for drawing regression lines graphs between probit mortality and concentration to determine LC 90 values in each cases of test.

The species is the single representative of the East Asian genus Dendrobaris Egorov, 1976 (Morimoto and Yoshihara, 1996; Zherikhin, 1997) in Siberia. Some nemoral species of the weevils are known from Siberia (Legalov, 2010, 2011), because each record deserves attention. Materials and methods A specimen from Novosibirsk Oblast' is kept in the private collection of S.V. Reshetnikov (Novosibirsk), other studied specimens are kept in the Institute of Systematics and Ecology of Animals of the Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences (Novosibirsk) and Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg). In this study, we investigated the performance of eight trap colors in attracting jewel beetles and bark and ambrosia beetles to test if the trap colors currently used in survey programs worldwide are the most efficient for trapping these potential forest pests. In addition, we tested whether trap colors can be exploited to minimize inadvertent removal of their natural enemies.

Species were found in every county within Mississippi and are representative of the Bariditae fauna of the southeastern United States. Open, prairie-like habitats and aquatic wetland habitats were the habitats with the highest biodiversity of Bariditae in the state. Species of Baris, Geraeus, Linogeraeus, and Odontocorynus, were found in the highest numbers and Linogeraeus and Sibariops were found to be the most speciose genera in the state.

In some instances identification is only readily available at an even higher ranking such as Class. Millipedes are in the Class Diplopoda. There are many Orders (O) of millipedes and they are not easily differentiated so this entry is best left at the rank of Class. A great deal of taxonomic reorganization has been occurring lately with advances in DNA analysis pointing out underlying connections and differences that were previously unrealized. For this reason, all other rankings aside from Family, Genus and Species have been omitted from the interior of the tables since many of these ranks are in a state of flux.

The morphological variability and different modes of life result from beetle ability to adapt to all kinds of habitats. Terrestrial and soil living forms dominate. Beetles undergo a complete metamorphosis and most species live in soil during at least one of the stages. They include predators, herbivores, parasites and sapro- phagans, playing a fairly significant role in nature and in man’s economy. Our knowledge of beetles, even of the common species, is insufficient. In spite of the fact that the beetle fauna of Central Europe has been studied relatively well, the knowledge accumulated is generally limited to the adults, while the immature stages have not been adequately studied.
