Deep pewter gray patina throughout. The present example is certainly highly desirable. 587 1779 Rhode Island Brass Token - Wreath Below Ship - NGC MS63 $7,000 Pop 1. None Finer At NGC. Mintage Unknown. The Wreath Below Ship variety was the final issue of this popular token. This handsome Mint State piece has plenty of original antique gold color beneath an overlay of mottled gray-brown patina. Both sides of this piece are equally well defined with universally bold striking detail. Satiny in texture with an overall smooth appearance. Lustrous greenish-yellow surfaces. MORE ABOUT THIS PIECE: The obverse of Rhode Island Ship medals depict the flagship of British Admiral Lord Richard Howe and is anchored with the peripheral legend DE ADMIRALS FLAG van ADMIRAL HOWE 1779. The reverse shows Aquidneck island as the central motif with three warships to the left, about two dozen troops on the island, and soldiers fleeing in thirteen small boats to the right. The peripheral legend reads D'vlugtende AMERICAAN ENvan RHODE YLAND Augt 1778. PCGS Price Guide...$8000. No NGC price Guide Information. PCGS # Copper (All Varieties) Price Description 1543 1808 Classic Head Cent -- NGC MS67 BN $67,500 Finest Certified for the Issue. This is truly an outstanding example of one of the most conditionally challenging design types in all of U.S. numismatics. Highly lustrous bluish-steel and rose-brown with a faint wisp of darker steel toning at the cap above the letters RT in LIBERTY. The surfaces are satiny and the luster is unbroken. A beautiful example of the popular, yet challenging "Turban Head" cent. Produced for only seven years from 1808 through 1814, the Classic Head cent design is the work of German-born engraver John Reich. Known for years among numismatists as the Turban Head cent (based on the name popularized by Edouard Frossard in his 1879 monograph), the more familiar Classic Head name used today actually predates Frossard's description and is attributed to Ebenezer Locke Mason, Jr. in 1868. Regardless of the exact circumstances of its design and replacement, the Classic Head series is one of the shortest among early coppers from the United States Mint. This first year 1808 is just such a coin and would make an impressive addition to the finest type or variety set. CDN Retail Price Guide...$78,000. Fully struck throughout with amazing visual appeal. Near- fully struck, and uncommonly so for this challenging issue, lustrous surfaces are also remarkably smooth in hand even for the MS-65 grade assigned by PCGS. Many numismatic experts rank the 1919-D alongside the 1920-D as the rarest Denver Mint Buffalo nickel in fully struck Gem Uncirculated condition. 3943 1919-S Buffalo Nickel -- PCGS MS64 CAC $2,500 Scarce and desirable Choice Uncirculated quality for this key date entry in the San Francisco Mint Buffalo nickel series. Bathed in iridescent silver-apricot, pale gold, powder blue and even a few other light shades, both sides readily reveal bright satin luster as the surfaces rotate under a light. Nicely preserved and well struck otherwise. PCGS Prfce Guide in MS64 (NON-CAC)...$3500. iIn PCGS MS65...$10,000!!! 3945 1920-D Buffalo Nickel -- PCGS MS64 $1,900 Sharply to fully struck with richly original surfaces, this warmly patinated golden-gray example appears nicer than even some certified MS-65s that we have handled for this issue. Among the Mint State survivors poor striking quality and inferior luster are the rule, explaining the scarcity of attractive Choice and Gem quality examples such as this particular piece. Indeed, this is one of the better produced and more desirable survivors. PCGS Price Guide...$2750. 3955 1925-D Buffalo Nickel -- PCGS MS65 $2,800 A gorgeous Gem Mint State 1925-D nickel, one of the more conditionally challenging entries in the Buffalo series. Vividly toned in lemon-yellow and power blue iridescence, a full quota of smooth satin luster is also a praiseworthy attribute. All information provided is for reference only. Mintage...1,500. For the past 150 years, these coins have intrigued collectors as well as Mint officials. Much has been written about the origins of the half dismes, some of it embellishment, some outright fabrication. It is still believed by many that Martha Washington was the model for the figure of Liberty and the coins were struck from Washington's Sheffield silver plate. This particular piece must have been highly prized by its owner, as it is in essentially the same condition as when it left John Harper's saw shop 229 years ago. The only difference is the addition of multiple layers of gray, blue, and golden toning over each side. This is one of the finest pieces known of this historic issue. This is the only coin NGC has certified in MS63. NCG Price Guide...$350,000. 4438 1859 Seated Liberty Half Dime -- NGC PF65 $1,950 Mintage...800. A needle-sharp Gem with smooth, glassy fields. Peach-gold, lavender, and ocean-blue toning graces both sides. NGC Price Guide...$2850 4438 1859 Seated Liberty Half Dime -- PCGS PR66 CAC $3,750 Pop. 6 in PCGS CAC. GEMMY all the way! Premium quality mirrors beam from below a wonderful, original patina. The surfaces are icy smooth and very clean. The eye appeal is further enhanced by complete detail on both sides with a nearly cameo contrast on the obverse depending on what angle the light hits the frost. PCGS Price Guide in PR66...$3750. In PR67...$12,500 PCGS # Dimes (All Varieties) Price Description 4470 1800 Draped Bust Dime -- PCGS MS62 $22,000 Pop. 3. Only 4 Finer. Just two die marriages exist for the 1800 dimes, both share the same obverse with different reverses. All Mint State 1800 dimes are rarities. This MS62 example is exceeded by only a handful of specimens at PCGS. Dappled amber-gold toning intermixes with lilac and bright-silver areas on the obverse, while the reverse is a bit more toned in the same shades. A strong strike on the devices. This lightly toned example offers nice eye appeal and is an important opportunity for the advanced early dime specialist. PCGS Price Guide...$22,000. 4528 1836 Capped Bust Dime -- PCGS MS65 $4,600 Delicate and attractive gold toning visits the obverse and reverse surfaces of this sharply defined JR-2 Gem, which exhibits frosty silver luster and sensational eye appeal. A faint die crack travels upward from the obverse border at 6 o'clock, bisecting the die. PCGS Price Guide...$7500. 4529 1837 Capped Bust Dime -- NGC MS65+ $9,500 Only Seven Numerically finer at NGC. This is the final year of the Capped Bust design, with the Liberty Seated style on deck for later in 1837 when it was launched. Boldly struck on the eagle's feathers and shield, as well as on Liberty's curls. Of the four known die marriages of this issue JR-4 is the only variety of the issue with a Fancy 8 in the date, and it shares its reverse die with the JR-3 Block 8 variety. This piece has clean fields and devices, as expected for the gem "plus" grade level.
