MONTREAL HOUSE

2 0 2 1 in collaboration with ECOMARIS

Charitable organization and social economy enterprise founded in 2006;

Operates 's first sail training vessel with an environmental focus;

2,700 participants since 2012;

Our reintegration initiatives have a success rate of 87%;

5 current programs: Capstan, Sea Cadets, Karavaniers (Cosmic Plankton), Bio-Ecology Internships and Nomad Campus;

Growing demand due to successful programs, and resulting in the need for a training centre accessible year-round. We connect humans to the ocean. EcoMaris' boats allow us to bring people to the sea. The Ocean House will allow us to bring the sea to people. NO OCEAN IN MONTREAL!?

W E A R E O N E

The seas sustain 3 billion people: we need a healthy ocean.

It is essential to climate regulation (United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, 2021-2030).

Montreal needs to be part of it to: - Accelerate ocean literacy; - Embody the link between humans, oceans, climate and biodiversity; - Educate the public about the importance of ocean conservation.

» MONTREAL OCEAN HOUSE (MOH)

Will focus on accessible field training which integrates innovative technology and living species for an interactive and sensory experience.

Will change mentalities thanks to its:

1. Training Centre (for human interaction); 2. Planktonarium (to understand marine ecosystems through ocean art and science); 3. Laboratory (to see and manipulate plankton for citizen science); 4. St. Lawrence Theatre (to introduce partners and raise environmental awareness through an immersive experience in the heart of the ocean) 5. Café des Rescapés (to offer products of the St. Lawrence and support reintegration programs); 6. Giving Back the St. Lawrence program (for a concrete experience at sea aboard a sail training vessel). OUR IMPACT / EDUCATION ENVIRONMENT SOCIETY

The MOH will:

Allow urban residents to discover marine biodiversity;

Educate a "green" and "blue" generation on the importance of the ocean;

Reach a broader audience including students, tourists and the general public;

Allow visitors to reclaim the St. Lawrence through a multi-sensory experience;

Incorporate the traditional environmental knowledge of Indigenous communities;

Fullest potential; Self-esteem; Team spirit; Leadership; Sense of purpose; Sense of belonging to a community; Environmental knowledge, through the development of an emotional bond with the ocean and techniques to use it wisely. PLANKTONARIUM PLANKTONARIUM / FIRST ONE IN THE WORLD

Why plankton?

Plankton is essential to life below the water and on land; Phytoplancton creates 1/2 the oxygen we breath; Plankton is mysterious, beautiful, and fun; No plankton, no fish; Plankton is an awesome educational tool to learn about biodiversity, life sciences, oceanography...; Microscopic observation of plankton is similar to telescopic stargazing: it helps us access new dimensions and links us to the universe. PLANKTONARIUM / E X H I B I T

First interactive and immersive space dedicated Its installations will welcome elementary school to plankton in the world. students, international tourists and the local community. It will showcase physical and virtual exhibits about these marine species allowing life on Earth. It will popularize ocean science through interactivity, citizen science and arts.

PLANKTONARIUM / LABORATORY

High-tech laboratory open to scientists and the general public;

Grows (phyto and zoo) plankton species for exhibits;

Invites scientists and university researchers to use cutting-edge equipment;

Supports researchers' needs for outreach;

Humbly contributes to ocean research.

CAFÉ DES RESCAPÉS

It hires participants from EcoMaris’ reintegration programs.

The Café:

Introduces and offers products of the St. Lawrence;

Fights food waste;

Supports local and sustainable supply chains;

Helps with the socio-professional reintegration of at-risk youth. ST. LAWRENCE THEATRE

The Theatre will screen live footage from the ships and partners’ installations.

This interactive and immersive space will transport visitors onto and into the sea, highlighting various ecosystems.

"Not everyone can go to Anticosti, but Anticosti can come to everyone." ST. LAWRENCE THEATRE / O U T R E A C H & PARTNERSHIPS

It’s an outreach tool made available to all our partners in and around the world.

It enhances national and international cooperation to "support nature" and protect the ocean ST. LAWRENCE THEATRE / DYNAMIC BILLBOARD

1.Connect regions together and reveal them to the world; 2.Unite local, national and international partners; 3.Bring together various stakeholders; 4.Federate Canadians around the ocean; 5.Act as a dynamic billboard for our partners and supporters. ENVIRONMENTAL VESSEL

We welcome 350 participants a year on training expeditions on the St. Lawrence River. We introduce them to sailing and teamwork.

Here’s our secret recipe: time spent at sea is... out of time. That is when you can step back, look at your life, listen to nature and your inner self in order to make decisions that will benefit your future.

Our participants discover their strengths, interests and motivation through direct action.

They acquire knowledge on marine ecosystems through sailing. They learn from close contact with nature and give back to the environment in return. ENVIRONMENTAL VESSEL

In 2019, EcoMaris had to turn away 400 participants for lack of space. It's crystal clear: we need another vessel! It will allow us to offer more sea programs to:

First Nations (Guardians of the Land: Native River); Primary and secondary schools (Giving Back the St. Lawrence); Specific communities (Opportunity Road). GIVING BACK THE ST. LAWRENCE / ON LAND, AT SEA & VIRTUALLY

3-step program: during classes in schools across Quebec and Canada at the Montreal Ocean House complex aboard a ship navigating the St. Lawrence

Objective: to provide young people with an access to the St. Lawrence.

Teachers can also access and use support material. VIRTUAL MOH

All of the components will be integrated into innovative and interactive technologies:

1. Telepresence;

2. Databases: data from microscopes, films and partners used on various media: web platform, apps, live exhibit and content sharing;

3. St. Lawrence Portal archiving precious content related to various St. Lawrence topics. PARTNERSHIPS
