Getting there The conference will take place at the University of Pollock Halls campus. The venue itself will be the South Hall, which is marked on the attached map. Pollock Halls is located about 2km from the city centre and is easily reachable by car, and by bus or taxi from both the airport and the train station. Accomodation Delegates who booked accommodation through the conference will stay in the 3* Chancellor’s Court accommodation, marked on the map. This is a 2 minute walk from South Hall, the conference venue. Check in is from 14:00 at the main Reception Centre. Check out is at 10:30. Breakfast is served in the John McIntyre restaurant.

Weather

Weather in Edinburgh is very changeable, and some rain is likely. The current forecast is favourable, but that does not say much. Daytime temperatures are likely to range between 15° and 20°.

If you arrive early There is a lot to see and do in Edinburgh, so arriving early or leave late is no punishment. To give some guidance a few highlights are listed below:

1. Get a feel for the place. The Medieval Old Town and the 18th Century New Town are both UNESCO World Heritage Sites for the architecture. Take some time to walk around, or take one of the tour buses to see the highlights. 2. The National Museum of explores the diversity of the natural world, world cultures, art and design, science and technology. A great place to spend a spare hour, or longer if it rains! The Georgian House provides good insight into the life of the wealthy in 18th Century Edinburgh, the time of the Scottish Enlightenment. The Royal Botanic Garden captures the imagination of everyone who visits and is world renowned for its horticultural excellence. Over 70 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds provide a tranquil haven just one mile from the city centre. Garden entry is free with a charge for the glasshouses. www.rgbe.org.uk

! Food and drink

Edinburgh has a wide range of excellent restaurants and pubs. The LIST (www.list.co.uk) provides good reviews and allows you to search by various categories and by location. Below some addresses close to the venue.

1. The Centro Bar is located in the JMCC on the campus. It is open until 11pm and serves simple meals until 9pm. 2. Salisbury Arms is a 2min walk form the campus, opposite the Comonwealth Swimming Pool on Dalkeith Road. It offers several real ales and good food. A lounge pub. www.thesalisburyarmsedinburgh.co.uk 3. Kismot is a quality Indian restaurant, a 6 mintute walk from Pollock Halls on 29 St Leonard Street. The do not sell alcohol, but you can Bring Your Own Bottle (for the Sainsbury local below), and they do not charge corkage. www.kismot.co.uk 4. Blonde is a modern Scottish restaurant providing quality dining with fresh produce for a reasonable price. It located on 75 St Leonard St, 5 minutes from the venue. http://blonderestaurant.co.uk 5. Montigue Bar is a traditional pub with several cask ales and a good selection of whiskies, but does not serve food. It is located on St Leonard St, just before Blonde Restaurant 6. Sheep Heid Inn, Est 1360 and the oldest pub is Scotland, is a bit further away. A 15 min scenic walk through Holyrood Park takes you to the conservation village . The first road to the left when you leave the park will take you to the pub. It serves meals and range of beers and whiskies. www.sheepheid.co.uk 7. The Sainsbury Local on the corner of South Clerk Street and East Preston St is the closest supermarket to buy drinks to take to Kismot, a newspaper or forgotten toiletries.
