A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO THAPATHALI CAMPUS

In the presence of Late King Mahindra, Late Dr. Heinrich Lubke, President of Federal Republic of Germany inaugurated Technical Training Institute (TTI) on 29 th Falgun 2023 B.S. The Technical Training Institute (TTI) offered midlevel manpower course in , automobile engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical drafting. With the assistance from the Government of Federal republic of Germany, Technical Training Institute Project (TTIP) was established in in 1963(2019 B.S.), with the sole objective of producing trained tradespersons and technicians needed for the development of the country. TTI started three years' vocational training in mechanical, automobile and electrical trades for S.L.C. graduates from 2022 B.S. to 2024 B.S. At the meantime, the three years' course in mechanical drafting was transferred to Pulchowk, IOE.

From 2029 B.S. this Technical Training Institute (TTI) was renamed as Thapathali Campus under Tribhuvan University (T.U.) and known as , Thapathali Campus thereafter. Campus started diploma in mechanical engineering and diploma in automobile engineering 2043 B.S. and later on, diploma in electronics engineering and diploma started from 2058 B.S.

According to the policy of Institute of Engineering (IOE), campus introduce bachelor in in 2062 B.S., bachelor in in 2066 B.S., bachelor in electronics and communication engineering in 2067 B.S., bachelor in mechanical engineering in 2068 B.S., by stopping new intakes in any diploma courses from 2070 B. S. Again, Campus has intake bachelor in architecture and master in in 2071 B.S., bachelor in automobile engineering in 2072 B.S. and master in mechanical design & manufacturing in 2073 B.S. also.

The existing infrastructures, human resources moreover fulfill the requirement of diploma level courses. There is an utmost need of renovation restructuring the existing infrastructures and human resources to stabilize the bachelor programs and also to address the growing demands. To sustain the restructuring and complete it, and to aggressively move forward to achieve higher levels of excellence with the intent of becoming one of the engineering campuses in the nation, a comprehensive restructuring document is necessary. Creating a plan involves listening to many ideas from stake holders, assembling the ideas into a framework that supports the mission and vision of the campus.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This report aims to provide the base for quality assurance and accreditation of Thapathali campus, one of the constituent campuses of Institute of Engineering in Tribhuvan University of Nepal. As per the objective of University Grants Commission (UGC), checking the quality of the college all over Nepal, Thapathali Campus has involved in this task to check its competency to UGC's criteria and to know the strength and weakness of campus in academic, administrative, infrastructural, social, economic, information and technical aspects. For this the campus has formed seven membered - IQUAC committee under which nine membered SAT committee has formed. SAT has involved in collecting and analyzing the data and evidences which are then used in filling the SSR form provided by UGC. Hence this report provides the complete assessment package, plans and programs, overviews, future plans etc of the campus in detail along with the supporting documents.

Quality Policy

Thapathali Campus as constituent college of institute of engineering has clear quality maintaining policies with its goals, objectives and plans of activities. The Thapathali Campus has well organized departments which is base of education makes its plan and implementation effectively. Besides this, the campus has strong research and development committee and educational management information system unit which hand in hand supporting to achieve the goals of campus. The campus has better infrastructure and organizational structure which in other hand is big assistance for good quality education. The institute of engineering is always a strong umbrella organization for full support and evaluation of higher education.

Institutional key highlights (Academic)

• In B.S.1989 Falgun 19 (1932 AD) the first Nepal Technical School is established in Kumarichowk Basantpur. • In B.S. 2019(1962 AD) Technical Training Institute is established in Thapathali Campus with economical and technical support of federal republic of German government. • In B.S. 2023 Falgun 23(1967 March 13) the Late king Mahendra and chancellor Dr. Henric Lubke inaugurated Technical Training Institute as starting of engineering education. • In first it had started discipline of mechanical drafting with three year course for SLC passed students from 2023 to 2029. • From 2029 B.S., it is officially transformed as Thapathali Campus under institute of engineering as constituent college of Tribhuvan University. It started two programs automobile and mechanical engineering with each 24 students as proficiency certificate level for SLC pass out students. • From 2033 the proficiency level courses is converted in two year course up to 2046 B.S. . After that the diploma level course after SLC started From 2046 B.S. the course is converted to diploma level to three years course to standardize international level of technical education.

• In 2052 B.S. there are added electronics, computer, civil architecture diploma courses which run until they are phase out by the policy of TU. • In 2063 the campus has started bachelor level course in industrial engineering which then followed by civil engineering in 2065.After that the bachelor level courses of electronics and communication, mechanical engineering, automobile engineering and architecture engineering are started in Thapathali Campus. • The next big step of Thapathali campus that it started is master level course in Earth Quake Engineering in 2070 B.S. and mechanical design and manufacturing in 2072 B.S. In this way Thapathali campus has up to now six bachelor level programs in day shift and two masters level programs in evening shift.

The all nature of campus is government funded for normal run of campus. But the campus has also provision of intake in full fee and sponsored students which make the campus to assist to run labs, library and other programs to meet the needs of campus. 6. a. Although the campus is started as technical training institute project in 1963(2019) and vocational training as trade started from 2022, the formal recognition of institute is taken as 2023/11/29 or 1966/3/13 as the campus was inaugurated jointly by Late King Mahendra Bir Bikram Shahdev and President of Federal republic of Germany Dr. Heinrich Lubke. The name of institute is changed the name of institute as TTI(Technical Training Institute) to Thapathali Campus in 2029 B.S. as the constituent campus of Institute of Engineering and Tribhuvan University.

The date of 2063/01/2063 is the permission of running the industrial engineering in Thapathali campus. The government had policy to shift the TU colleges to the bachelor level and up and diploma level faculties are close up so further all faculties are started as request and approval of TU management. The M.Sc. program of Earth Quake Engineering is approved by academic committee in date of 2071/8/21.

University to which the Institution is constituent: Tribhuvan University Thapathali campus is constituent campus of Tribhuvan Universities (TU) and the campus is running as one of the campus of the Institute of Engineering (IOE). IOE is the formal umbrella educational organization which makes all decisions in policy level quality improvements, exam conductions and financial managements and control. 14. State the norms and procedures for recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff of the Institution. (Enclose the details)

Teaching and non-teaching staffs are recruited according to the provision made in TU legislation rules. Campus determines the required no of post TU service commission takes imitation in order to fill the vacant post by publishing vacancy announcement notice in the national daily newspaper. Free competition system is decided by TU Service Commission according to the procedures and candidates are selected regarding to those systems. The details of the norms and procedures for recruitment of teaching and nonteaching staffs according to the TU Service Commission rules and procedures are mentioned as follows.

A. Permanent Post For the recruitment post TU Service Commission shall determines the number, qualification, and subject and advertised through the public media within minimum time frame of 35 days. The candidates shall have to appear in the written and interview. The successful candidates shall be appointment in one year probation.

C. Contract Recruitment The campus administration shall recruit the faculty members and staffs in the contract bases in the contrary situation for the recruitment. Campus administration takes in order to fill the vacant post by publishing notices in the national daily newspapers and college websites www.thapathalicampus.edu.np. Free competition modules are made by campus service committee on the basis of TU Service Commission by laws and procedures. Candidates are selected according to those models.

The management committee is not formed in college as the policy making decisions are made in steering committee of institute of engineering in which all constituent engineering collages are members of steering committee chaired by dean of IOE. The campus level problem is solved by the regular meetings of department and section heads with campus chief and assistant campus chief and department and section heads.

There are three assistant campus chief in administration, academic and facility respectively which has been presented in organogram of campus. The Campus has recently established and updated three units' viz. EMIS unit, R&D unit and Consultancy unit. The policies of campus in different sectors are reflected and formulated through these units. Data centralization, campus automation, removing paper works for administrative and academic purposes, promoting online activities, improving e- learning system like policies are addressed through the works of EMIS unit. The policy of campus for improving the research environment, obtaining the research funds from different national and international agencies, importing newly invented research techniques and making its practical application by involving students, teachers and staffs so that it is used in technical advancement and social welfare are reflected in the activities of R and D unit. Similarly, formal and informal questionnaires are conducted to the ex – students, community peoples, students, staffs, teachers etc. There are number of suggestion box in the college premise, the suggestions dropped there are taken into account through the president of student's unions. To combine teaching and research activities students of Master and Bachelor are also involving in internship program respectively. Practical cum theoretical classes are furnished on time. Extra classes of difficult theoretical subjects are provided for the better performance of the students. They are more encouraged to take part in paper presentation, seminar, workshop, group discussion etc. Internal assessments are held to assess the students' progress half yearly. IOE has held the exam and results within the time specified in academic calendar of IOE. Practical classes for each student of all faculties are conducted in workshop and laboratory. Likewise, educational tours and industrial visits are managed for the enhancement of the practical knowledge of the students.

Case study, group discussion, presentation, report writing and publication are the basic academic activities of the campus which makes professional communication skills are strong effective. Statistical program of social sciences (SPSS), Mat Lab, advance access and Excel programming are running to calculate statistical problem of project and research report. Computer and multimedia projector are used to facilitate teaching and learning activities. Due to the full internet facility teachers, staff, students learn different skills knowledge from different source such as YouTube and various apps and websites. These consist of elective such as hydraulic system; auto system and energy audit; which are conducted from last five years. Also the faculty members are continuously involved in review and modification of the curriculum in all the subjects running in the campus.

Masters level students (2071-MSEQ), are made involved in Mason training in the 14 earthquake affected districts; this program was jointly organized by the campus with the collaboration to International Labor Organization, ILO. e. During such training, teachers are ask to prepare a lesson plan of their subject and allowed to teach the participants. Laboratory – the campus has started process to build Modern lab for the research and development. Library – The campus has developed computerized e-library system. The campus has utility service which is used to maintain all the significant cleaning such as tree cutting, outer building surface cleaning etc. The campus has allocated separate budget from its annual budget for maintaining its infrastructure. The consultancy unit of the campus is responsible for the regular maintenance of physical infrastructures and the EMIS unit is responsible for the regular monitoring and maintenance of IT system, internet Wi-Fi, servers and computers of all lab and sections plus maintenance of Printers of college. Yes, the campus provides its hall for different for different academic, social, political and other activities. Campus provides the space for various health camping, awareness programs and other social issues. Nepal Telecom conducts its training in electronics lab for different level manpower and the trainers are the experts for campus itself. Civil department uses its student’s and teacher from Master’s level to conduct Mason training for earthquake affected districts. Also, bachelor level students and teachers are made involve in different projects and mode preparation which are used for increasing awareness in the society in different aspects. Department of archeology has conducted different tests of specimens to check the existing strength of heritage structures using the equipment and manpower in civil lab. UN and foreign countries use to train their drivers in automobile section and selection tests are also made in same section. Campus has formed a department for consultancy services. There are total 172 computers in the campus including laptop and desktop in which 100 computers in four labs and 10 computers in library reading room. There are separate computer laboratories with all necessary programming, engineering software. These labs are easily accessible to both teachers and students. Also there are sufficient laptop and desktop computers in all the six departments which are used by head of departments, deputy head of departments for official purpose. There are 10 computers in library which are used by students for their academic purposes like downloading and reading books, research papers, journals etc. The students’ academic student society groups like CESS, ROBOTICS, ECAST, MESIN, SOIS, and FSU etc. are provided with computers. Top down and bottom up decision making process are followed which is known as participatory approach. All the relative information is collected and it has made the comparative study of result and analysis in order to receive outcome. In this way major problems are solved with better outcome to standardize the teaching and learning process in the concerned campus. According to information received from website, suggestion box, and feedbacks from mobile apps, the campus has found much valuable information and made easy to make decisions, for example the students gave many suggestions via suggestion box about issuing books and difficulty for study made campus to take decision of book bank in which student get all text book required for semester.

Further works like admission notice of the campus, publication related works etc are informed through the website of campus. 120. Mention some positive impacts made by the public information practice. (1.5) The public information practice has made following positive impacts for improvements in different aspects of campus teaching environment. 1. The campus administration has collected the limitation of drinking water in college specially in hot seasons so it has hired the drinking water gallon jar and placed water jars in each departments class rooms and department offices. 2. The sanitation problem was severe and campus information nodal officer took this information and made discussion in campus administration. After discussion campus has made outsourcing and it is seen more and effective sanitation and outer cleaning of campus area, security, gardening. 3. The campus nodal officer visited to different campus and collected all necessary information that new computer technology for educational system is using by such campuses and to have such software for e-learning and now it has made contract with software for EMIS (educational management information system. The Wi-Fi existed in campus was so slow and our capacity of 5MBPS is not sufficient when this information is feedback from stakeholders then it is upgraded to 20MBPS and the area of Wi-Fi strength increased by dedicated lease lined 20MBPS. 4. The information of lack of exploration of college from the society and campus students, the campus managed to participate in different organizations and other campus events. The campus is securing top positions in Robotics competition national and international wise competitions in Pulchowk campus and IIT Khargpur, India.

PART -II- PREAMBLE 1. BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO THE INSTITUTE Thapathali Campus is constituent campus of Tribhuvan University. Thapathali Campus is government run campus which is governed by the management committee of IOE (Institute of Engineering).The IOE established all vision, mission and strategies for all its constituent campuses. The all policy and activities are mainly formulated by institute of engineering. The all rules and regulations are according to Tribhuvan University mainly the authorized TU RED books and the TU assembly. The Campus has internal bodies as per structure defined by campus and requirements. The TU predefined job responsibilities, rights and regularities are enforced in all the organization. The permanent recruitment are all as the staff of the TU and gets facilities from the TU organization as main organization. All major decisions like appointment of campus chief and assistant campus chiefs are appointed by TU registrar office. Financially all budgeting and responsibility of accountancy is to TU and TU has body of account accountancy supervision to check and balance of Campus. The certification is done through the TU office and Exam is conducted by the IOE dean office of exam. The campus has authority to appoint the head of departments, deputy head of departments and other posts like lab in charge, administration, library heads etc. It has provision of staff shifting throughout all constituent college of TU. It has authority to form different committees and units as need of campus but it needs agreement from IOE dean office and TU. Since the establishment of campus as pioneer engineering campus it has celebrated its silver jubilee in 2072 B.S., it has produced more than 10000 middle level skilled man power in certificate level and more than 4000 high level bachelor level man power and more than 100 masters level man power for country and among which many distinguished high level post in government level and public figures in field of technology. And since then the campus is well- known for its good quality education in nation's high level academic scenario. The UGC (University Grant Commission) has recently going a mandatory commission which has launched quality assurance and accreditation(QAA) program to meet the education quality a measurable and self-assuring for maintain the education level nationally and internationally. The Thapathali Campus has decided to become QAA certified campus as it has belief that the self-evaluation and evaluation by mandatory commission will provide the institute a better opportunity to self-examine and standardize. KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS The campus has running different academic programs which are essential for promoting nation by provide in required skill man power in field of technology. It has six bachelor level academic degree in engineering and two master's level degree in engineering. The campus has mechanical engineering, civil engineering, architecture engineering, and electronics engineering which is a fundamental engineering field for nation building. Besides this, engineering the campus has such academic which is only one program in Nepal; these are automobile engineering and industrial engineering. The campus has belief that the two added fields will be fundamental engineering field to develop country as industrialized country. After that the campus has decided to add earthquake engineering in 2071 B.S. and it became popular after 2072 B.S. earth quake which made country a heavy loss due to collapsing buildings and homes and it clearly indicated country to develop earthquake resisted building and infra-structure. The last attempt of new academic program is masters in mechanical design and manufacturing which is also single such program in Nepal to develop highly skilled man power. In this way Thapathali campus is popular but such intensive subjects and its quality of technical education in center of Nepal. All departments of faculties are now in audio visual form and the teaching learning process is mostly done in audio video assisting with internet facilities. The all theory classes are supported by plenty of la experiments and workshops. The industrial visit, entrepreneurship site visit, project works, different relevant surveys are taken as part of teaching learning system in syllabus. New subjects like industrial and mechanical earth quake have included the subjects like presentation, leadership developments which has targeted to develop the students as leading part of country. The all departments has its own presentation hall meeting halls so that students can easily take part in presentation as its own course. The project work in all faculties are major part of education where the students make its research work for developing new tools, instruments and applicative device and makes research in the field of technology requirement for community. The campus has high band internet service with server and direct internet links to each and every department and sections and Wi-Fi for all. The main potential of campus is the professional student societies which makes the campus a different environment of learning. Each faculty has its so active student society and its activities. They use to participate in different campus. The campus its good student robotics and automation center established in 2061 B.S. and since then this center has focus of students as it organize robotics training, seminars and participations in national international competitions. Many cultural, poem story competitions are frequently organized by different student societies for cultures. FINANCIAL POSITION Of THAPATHALI CAMPUS Thapathali campus is government run TU constituent campus so all financial support comes from the campus which means salary and other budgeted from TU .Since running cost of labs, workshops is too expensive and government is not being sufficient support for these matters the institute of engineering has made policy for full fee students besides regular students which is being main source for running activities and lab-work-shop cost. The campus has some partners as KOICA which helped the campus to equip campus with labs accessories, computer systems. The teachers and staffs permanent posts for Thapathali campus is not sufficient so campus has to manage extra teachers, staffs from the full-fee funds. Similarly most of campus programs are run through the full fee fund as students programs, teacher's welfare programs and similarly for staff welfare. With this full fee fund, it's hardly can run the essential activities so many activates should limit due to lack of financial insufficiency.

5. ACHIEVEMENTS AND QUALITY OF EDUCATION The Campus has providing its effort to produce good qualified skilled man power for country. Its more than 15000 students are in service in different part of country. Many of them are so sound in their subjects and field of technology. There hundreds of renowned persons who have finished their graduation from this institution. Engineer and Dr. Ramseur Maharjan, Dhruba Maharjan, Dr. Riddiratna Sthapit, Govind Pokhrel, Gore Sherpa, Sunil Tandukar etc. The student of Mechanical Engineering Sanjita Wasti and Achyut Poudel, Nikita Shreshth has won top in all engineering faculty for year 2074,2073 and 2071.The campus participated in robot completion 2065 and following in IIT Kharagpur, India and won different positions as second and best design, best performance etc. In national wise Thapathali campus has won national competitions as ROBOCON 2018 with 10000/- prize.

DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES Planning of all entire activates of teaching learning process and extra activities should be preplanned and made in time frame of academic year. The clear plan well known discussed among all departments, teachers and students with administrate functions should go in harmony for better results. A well written plan and human man power and financially supported activates will bring campus a successful initiation in academic development. The planning of departments reflected and plans and fulfilling the plans are best way to interrelated cycle of plan, taking actions and evaluation. The campus has best way of development initiation of strategic planning, annual planning, quality enhancing planning implantation, evaluation and analyzing and making solution for next phase planning.

(i). Strategic planning The strategic plan of campus is key model of changing whole academic development which is set for at least 5 years but in yearly wise also it is reviewed and rearranged so that the clear picture of academic progress can be seen. The review of mission, evaluation of SWOT through internal and external academic scenario and scan provides the fundamental key for five year cycle planning and implementation and evaluation. Actually the strategic plan mobilizes the various academic and administrative and extra curriculum wise activities of campus.

(ii). Semester planning It is the part of strategic planning to full fill its whole mission and goals so it is planned by keeping view and reviews of objectives which is stated in the goals. It is actually set by reviewing previous years plan and activities it completing tasks and dividing the tasks of next semester .In this way, it takes report from all departments, accounts, student mobilization and

It ensures the involvement of all stakeholders for better progress. (iii). Quality enhancement planning On the base of vision, mission, goals and objectives and plans of campus, the campus makes a distinguished plan for quality enhancement plan and process. It focuses the quality insurance of all spheres of education as teacher, student aspects. It includes various trainings, workshops and extra activities to bound the aim of quality maintenance. The quality enhancement planning reflects the commitment of the campus to pursue excellence throughout the planning cycle. In this way it is the integral process of the quality enhancement through all meaning of academic development with standardized form.

(iv) Evaluation and review The continues and periodic evaluation is essential part for all quality enhancement of campus as it provides clear picture where the campus is in previous situation, current condition and future position to be seen. There should be specific formats for evaluation for different norms of education from student, teacher, and stakeholders. The semester results of student examination, the job placement and response from job providers is vital evaluation factor. The questionnaires, results tally and produce the figures and charts will show visually the facts of campus so it makes a fundamental base for any plans, activities and goal keeping. The campus takes the evaluation conclusions from all departments, committees formed for special evaluation tasks and discusses the results and reviews the all the significant factors. The semester wise reviews and reports make the guidelines for modification of strategic plan and specific goals and sub plans with activities. 7. SELF-STUDY REPORT (SSR) PREPARATION The campus has taken initiation after the seminar held in Thapathali Campus on the QAA program as it has made clear for all teachers, key posts holders as campus chief and assistant campus chiefs and representatives of student. As the process of the QAA is too much volume of work and it includes a long time consumable paper works and evidence preparation of campus, the campus prepares for it with long discussion and immediately formed IQUAC and SAT teams for further works. SSR contains whole information as much possible up to this time as the Thapathali campus is oldest technical campus and due to lack of documentation system and mishandling it may loss some valuable information. But it is great opportunity of starting the documentation even in digitization form which can be saved in cloud internet system for permanent way.

The SSR is historic document which can be read and analyses easily by any one and may become base of all development aspects. It is as mirror which reflects previous present and future enhancement possibilities. Following basic things are basic components of the SRR. 1. Basic information of campus as current location, infrastructure, budgeting, key post holder contact. 2. Organizational information, institute running procedures and policy 3. Contents of curriculum relevant to requirements of socio-economic aspects 4. Typical teaching learning process including evaluation system 5. Activities based in research and development and further academic progress plans 6. Student oriented plans and activities and facilities provided to students 7. The system of campus regarding information flow and management 8. The relation with public and other stakeholders via media and responsibility of student employment 9. All the evidences for written response of campus in form of documents and photography The documentation of SRR is legal and reliable documentation for all stakeholders and open book for all concerned policy makers internally and nation-wise. The campus understands these institutional documents for quality assurance accreditation in the sense of broad development in future enhancement and for nation building program. The SSR has made clear path to formulate new strategic plans, goals, policy and guidance for qualitative and quantitate development for new generation emerging today. It has fascinated various academic plans and strategies in systematic and scientific way through documentation even in digitized way. At last it bolsters the campus reputation and highlighting the campus for quality assuring standard and it becomes mile stone for further strengthening and meeting challenge of modern era.

8. FORMATION OF IQUAC AND SAT TEAM The campus determined to be standardized for quality assurance and accreditation and for legal process and need for QAA, campus formed a permanent nature IQAAC committee. In IQAAC it is made ensure of involvement and contribution of all departments, sections and those who has contribution in the field of campus quality improvements. (i). Orientation It is main important part of SRR as it determines the whole phenomena of working, work division, time frame. The campus has organized a workshop with the help of UGC experienced man power and tried understand whole task. In this period mainly understood the importance of QAA and its different criteria which should meet during preparation of SRR. It also guided the team to divide the work load for different criteria. Each two team members are given two criteria for first to study about the criteria and probable its sources of documentation and writing materials. Many discussions then took among sub team and it also discussed in whole SAT team so many terminologies and targeted information's are made clear. It also took many discussions with the IQAAC committee for necessary steps to be taken for administration level. There has been taken many orientation classes also with administration staffs, library staffs and account (ii)

(ii). Seminars The campus conducted a seminar in campus in which the whole campus staffs and teachers with student representatives are participated and many valuable informations and decisions are taken during the discussions. It is formally informed to the institute of engineering as umbrella organization of campus and TU for the intention of being QAA accredited campus.

(iii). Participations and discussions The work of SRR team is unable to complete unless the full participation of the mechanism of campus. It is because the campus is going first time to work out in SRR and the collections of evidences are tough work. So teaching staff, on teaching staff ,students society, free students union are being well made participatory for ensuring collection all possible information gathering. It has conducted hundreds of meetings with different section staffs, groups and individuals. These meeting and individual conversations made enable the SAT team to collect different activities, plans, issues related to quality assurance and accreditation. All the gather information's and plans are documented gradually and made possible to shape the SRR report. Visits The SAT team with campus chief has made visits many times to UGC office in Sanothimi and made clear in different terminology and intentions of question f the questionnaire. It also took one seminar organized by the UGC where many professionals has participated and among which some colleges has made presentations of their experience during preparation of SRR report. It also has made visit when the UGC members came in Pulchowk Campus for discussions on QAA preparation. All together the visits also made much clearer in work of QAA.

10. VALIDATION The campus has formally formed IQAAC committee as need of the QAA work initiation. The IQAAC committee has then formed SAT committee for special task to perform the SRR report. So the in legally it has started its work with mandate from the IQAAC and started to make writing its questionnaires which in regular day basis transferred to IQAAC committee through their e-mail address. Then in every part work of work discussions are being taken for correction and additions of information and languages corrections. When there is completed the questionnaire and listing of probable information and its sources it took a long time meeting with IQAAC and SAT. Many required committees are formed during this time so that Accreditation norms could be fulfilled. The a process run for more than months for proper evidence collections and all are converted in the digital format so that it can be easily printed and stored. After completion of SRR report it is given softcopy to each one of concern and IQAAC members , department heads, students union. After verifications and corrections according to suggestions it is finalized and made one formal meeting in campus where the SAT committee handover the report to Campus Chief and made comments even in the handover day. In this way, all documents prepared by SAT team is verified many times and made open for all stakeholders. And it is verified by campus administration, IQAAC and individuals. The terms and durations of SAT committee and its works are made according to campus rules and regulations and on the basis of TU rules.

CRITERIA-WISE ANALYSIS CRITERION 1: POLICY AND PROCEDURES The major policy of campus being constituent campus of TU is formulized by TU and IOE under which all programs are run financiually,administration wise and academically. The management committee of the IOE dean office, Pulchowk is authorized organization which keeps right to change the all policy of the campus policy and procedures. The campus chief of Thapathali Campus is the member of the board committee of management committee of IOE. The Campus has regular meetings for daily bases decisions and besides this the campus conducts the weekly meetings with department meetings for review of past week. The department heads call meetings monthly wise and review courses, lab and workshops. The requirements of departments especially for lab equipment are notified and department head with recommend of the lab in charges the requirements are sent to procurements. The departmental meetings set the department level activities and plans. It is discussed in campus chief administration where the department heads, deputy department heads, administration head, account heads are compulsory to present and passed the recent policies and activities. This board is base for all activates in campus. The campus has three assistant campus chiefs for education, administration and facility which makes easy to look over all campus needs. All the department heads are responsible for their department activities and academic progress and departmental external activities. The department heads are controlled by academic assistant campus chief. The academic assistant campus chief conducts meeting monthly and semester wise with all its analyzed activities and results. The assistant campus chief for administration is responsible for administration of staffs, its recruitments and control. It manages the daily administration for fulfilling tasks of academic supports and overlook on the administration head, administration section. The exam conduction in campus assessments and semester wise board exams are also managed from academic administration headed by assistant campus chief for administration, scholarships are the assistant campus chief for facility has duty to control on campus facilities as cleaning and maintenance, purchasing, procurements etc. To enhance academic excellence, the campus has policy to introduce new programs as applying three new programs campus is well preparing for new two programs and its in progress. To give high academic quality campus is discussing for better environment in IT and audio-visual methods as full focus. The campus has already formatted for outstanding students by excellent base transparent admission system and those who are excellent are given many scholarships as free-ships and sum of money reward for excellent and medals and praising. The campus has powerful research committee which is active for calling research works with remuneration for research from 50000/- to 10000/-.The research base project work is the fundamental of education. Many external organizations are funding for project works and campus has also provision of 18000/- rupees for one project as the group need to purchase components and raw materials from market. The campus has recently emphasizing for paper presentation and research base works for teachers. The campus has research and innovation based magazines in which all students and teachers use to publish their articles on their works and researches.

TU has full support for researchers and those who are interested with full scholarships and leave for Ph.D. degree. The college has already partnerships and MOUs with many NGOs and INGOs and seeking more for new sectors of work and researches. The College has being conduction many seminars, workshops ,discussion programs, and relevant trainings for quality improvement among teachers a staffs and students and it use to send teachers and staffs in different trainings and seminars organized in between TU campuses and other organizations. CRITERION 2: CURRICULAR ASPECTS The academic sessions are fully based on syllabus its time frame and topics hour base classes. Each semester has 15 weeks and after which a semester final exam is conducted by the IOE dean office. The curriculums are projected to revise in every 10 years which is done by the IOE dean office with the help of experts of all engineering colleges belonging to institute of engineering, TU. During revision the stakeholder's suggestions are invited through meetings, seminars from all organizations of Nepal, related industries, NGOs and INGOs of Nepal. The campus has its own experience of curriculum development for new programs for subjects like industrial engineering, Automobile engineering in bachelor level and Earthquake engineering and Mechanical Design and Manufacturing in masters level. For this the campus has formed first committee for probability research and development which in later proceed its report. On the base of report the campus has forwarded the intention letter to dean office of IOE and TU management committee. When the TU and dean office agreed for further process then the campus formed the curriculum development committee and it worked for more than six months and sent for approval to IOE dean office and TU management committee. When the approval letter is got form these two organizations then the campus started to faculty board and intake of students are taken in usual admission system. The departments and coordinators office then develops all necessary facilities and academic faculties to feel the aim of the program. In this way campus has always plan to introduce demand oriented subjects to match with national and international requirements. The campus provide the environment of teachers, communities, students and stakeholders for collecting ideas and programs for more effective curriculums to match modern age. Since the curriculums are developed for international level and more standardization the syllabus are tough and need to be carefully teaching during semester to complete the course in time. The campus always enforcing for extra time class on Saturdays and holidays as it's difficult if the extra classes are not taken from initial of class. Thapathali campus focuses not only in academic courses but the campus organizes various academic related trainings, seminars and meetings so that the students and teachers could involve in such programs to enhance their knowledge. Many value based programs like blood donations, cleaning programs, and support collections for different victimized people of Nepal. Different sports, cultural programs, saraswati puja competitions on sports are often being taken place for harmony of academic teachings. The campus students have many project works in each semester which is many times done with collaboration with local NGOs and government organizations as well as international organizational. CRITERION-3: TEACHING LEARNING AND EVALUATION The campus has various aspects of admission as the admission is taken national wide in board of institute of engineering so the publicity is already done automatically as there is many preparations institutes which broadcast all the process and campus facilities. IOE launches the admission on line in websites and national magazines. Along with IOE ,the campus also publishes its information of admission through campus websites and national magazines, TV interviews and advertisements. The distribution of campus pamphlets, profiles among all the possible students targets. The admission process starts from IOE entrance exam and those who are succeed in that exam can apply in Thapathali campus on line with facility of number of priority of subjects. The merit score in the exam is the base of choice of programs in priority and quotas for female, indigenous, the results are published on line in campus website and campus notice board which is fully controlled by IOE admission board as the rules and regulation are formally enforced for campus affiliated to IOE,TU. The students are fully informed and made full visit of campus facilities by formal programs and department individually take special class for informing departmental system, exam and labs and evaluation methods as well as the inspirational speech by senior teachers. The syllabus and campus mobile apps and campus e-mail address are proceeded to distribute department wise. They are awarded for using campus EMIS software and websites for better tie up with students and parents. There is also informed all the scholar systems for best academicals top students and female students in free ships and full scholarships. Campus has fully experienced trained teachers who are mostly experienced in their profession and higher education from different well-known universities of Nepal and foreign countries. Most classes are assisted by audio-visual methods with lecture methods. Teachers are well- known on lesson plan and teaching methods through different training conducted by campus itself and TITI and TTTI Bhopal. Mostly lab teachers as instructors are trained by German Government of that time. The classes are at least two assessments in one semester and tutorial classes are followed for numerical problem solving. Almost all topics of subjects are insisted with assignments, home works and project works. The laboratory works are in all subjects to approve theory with practical practices. The campus has presentation halls for all departments with auditorium hall for all possible academic classes for example classes from visiting professors and professionals. The evaluations of assignments, homework and assessments are published in department wise and course progress and evaluation discussion is taken monthly for extra classes and effort for weak students. The teaching staffs and non-teaching staffs are normally recruited through TU service commission in permanent nature but for as requiring campus recruits in contract base through recruitment committee and formally through publishing magazines and internal examines and test practice class with interview from professional from IOE allocated professors. The campus encourages the teaching staffs for participation in training and leading the trainings, seminars etc. The campus has alumnae and feedbacks and supports are taken from passed out students. The campus is proud for the student's professional societies as robotics and automation center and faculty wise are more active in teaching learning process leading the current technologies with trainings, competitions, exhibitions. The campus prominently conducts the semester wise evaluation of whole teaching process and its quality. The campus has sufficient books for all programs and the book bank system is the system in which they get almost all bokks for a semester and extra reference books. Meanwhile the campus is going e- library so the issue of books and information of library can be taken from e-library and library sub domain. The library also has definite number of computers assisted by high speed internet service. The campus is now getting challenges from high tough syllabus with tight time which makes the course completion is difficult in each semester and extra classes are often need to be followed. Since the marks distributed for practical classes are so few comparing to theory classes and not being in final exams, the practical knowledge seems going less comparing to theory classes. The campus is getting very soon new course review for syllabus and all these things are gang to review.

CRITERION-4: RESEARCH, CONSULTANCY AND EXTENSION The campus accepts being engineering institute as research based in all aspects so the TU has allocated sufficient budget and privileges of theoretically the research oriented nature of classes and all infra structures. The Labs are innovated to meet the modern technologies and instruments so that the students can apply the experiments for research oriented works and activities. The campus has provisions for teachers and students oriented to research by forming a powerful research and development unit which is being active for necessary trainings and research programs. The R & D unit has announced research proposals for teachers and students with sum of fund for granting research works and teachers are engaging research with the help of students in side. The student's project work in engineering which in nature of research is in every faculty in which they develops newly devices which are usable in practical life. The students and teachers become active in these practices from third year as mini projects and for last year it is final projects with tough innovative projects. The Campus helps the students each with 4500/- rupees of sum and for a group of students of four gets 18000/- rupees for their practical works to materialize the project as device. The project works are collected in library as library materials reports for new coming students. Similarly the M.Sc. Level students perform the thesis which is research work examined by different external agencies and center board of exams and library has collection of thesis for new students too. The effective way of research work is going in college through student's professionals societies as robotics and automation center which conducts robotics week where they prepare many innovations and makes trainings on innovations, exhibitions and competitions and students get new technology and applications very well. The students make research in the time of national completions as robotics completions nation and international wise .Similar functions and exhibitions are also done by other professional student's societies and they often publish the professional innovative magazines also which is becoming the mark able progress in campus. The campus administration is full impressive and helpful for such programs and activities of campus. The Free Students union and departments and teachers are full positive to help financially and morally to those who involve in research. The campus is aiming to establish the full equipped lab for professional research. The campus has consultancy unit which is active to provide research for external organizations for building, automobile purchasing, and electronics. In many cases, it earns financial income for campus. The campus is planning to widen the consultancy for all aspects of engineering. The campus has another extension activity through the EMIS unit which is being fundamental bases for digitization of campus for teaching and learning as well as for administration, library, account and inventory process. CRITERION-5: INFRASTRUCTURE AND LEARNING RESOURCES The Campus has infrastructure for engineering institute of sufficient buildings for classrooms, drawing rooms. Computer labs, presentation halls, auditorium hall faculty labs and two big workshops as well as it has sufficient office rooms for staffs, account, inventory, teachers rooms, store rooms. There is place for sport courts for basketball, table tennis, mini football and volleyball courts. The campus includes gardening way and small jungle for environmental green. The campus has own water source from underground well water collection. It has hostel building, canteen and bus and motor garage. Similarly it has photocopy room, robotics and automation enter workshop premises and guard rooms, consultancy rooms. The campus has well managed library with 41000 text and reference books in record with study room equipped with internet accessed computers. The library has another room of reference book and study room for master's level students. The library is being digitized with KOHA international library software with D-space for storage of books and magazines. The campus has experienced librarians and staffs and it has strong library management committee presidencies by assistant campus chief for academics. The library provides all required books for a semester to student as book bank. Students can get all information about the library from library mobile app and subdomain websites. It has also plan to establish faculty wise library for reference and project and thesis works. The campus EMIS software is planning to provide all tracing material through cloud base internet resource and already started to up-load many teaching materials as well as syllabus, questions banks etc.

CRITERION-6: STUDENT SUPPORT AND GUIDENCE The campus has many activities and privileges for students welfares as for academic as extra activities. The students get different scholarships for academic excellence and other students. Campus supports all students' activities and financially helps for well conducting these programs. The campus updates its prospectus yearly to introduce its activities to students. The admission rules and the academic rules and regulations, exam systems its source and facilities are informed in orientation program, TV programs and websites. The students are financially helped for doing projects and the mentally academic counseling also provided department wide as per need. The students are inspired to attend theory, practical classes as sell as external activities. Many extra classes are taken for weak students. The campus has employment cell which helps to help for getting job from possible organizations. Many students get job from well-known organizations like Nepal telecom, government of Nepal as technical engineer, IT persons in local organizations, construction companies and street division, building division of government. Many students now secured prominent posts in governments and non-government organizations. Many became already ministers of government of Nepal. Many well-known professors and professional also became popular form Thapathali campus. The campus has alumnae of students and it uses to gather and discuss on campus development and academic quality. Similarly the robotics and automation center has its active alumnae which had alumnae meet every year for progress in robotics field. The campus has regular students for which the cost of fee is nominal and the many free ships and scholarships are given to the academically excellent students. The scholarships also given to full fee paying students according to academically scored marks in semester wise results. The campus is providing internet service, mobile apps software service, Office 365 service. Campus supports all activities of students as student's sports and trainings and seminars organized by students. The student's societies are supported financially for programs entire faculty. The campus has not done any tracing of its products of campus is planning to have tracing in next year. It is planning to have broad students study room with full internet access for at least for 50 students in future.

CRITERION-7: INFORMATION SYSTEM The campus has information officer as per requirement of TU for update resource for campus information. The source person is relied to information cell formed especially for gathering information, storing and analyzing the information for representing to campus administration. The main information of campus is data of student, teacher and staff records of certificates, campus committees, organizational meetings and decisions, student activities, results. Overall economic status and inventory, campus security and maintenance and all campus related information are documented in digital form to store in cloud base EMIS software. The feedbacks from ex-students and other organizations also collected for better analyses of campus quality. The campus has own websites, mobile apps for current information of teaching learning and departmental and campus information. Besides the campus has e-library for information current status of library and students. The campus has department wise brochures with main campus profiles and campus use to publish main campus face magazines and innovative magazine which introduces campus, departmental, sectional information along with innovative works. The campus student get their own email address in campus name which provides them to have different facility of getting group wise discussions and chat in college wise. The mobile app is also accessible for parents and they can get all information from mobile app and website of campus. Most of information is published in campus magazines and distribute among students, teachers, staff, parents and all related organizations, industries. The copies of magazines are also kept in library and departmental libraries for open study for all .The information cells is responsible for providing the information to upload in official website and EMIS software. The main events of campus is informed through the national magazines as admission, recruitments etc. The high scored students and special achieves of students and teachers are wall face printed for inspiring in campus and magazines and well decorated in campus promises. All such successes and inventions are also published in profiles and brochures. The campus publishes the magazine " …." which has full information of campus during previous years. CRITICAL APPRAISAL

The Thapathali Campus being oldest campus celebrating 50 years silver jubilee ,Thapathali campus has passed many stages from training institute to academic institute for SLC passed students ,then Bachelor level and up to masters level. Now it tends to have some new relevant engineering in biomedical and IT engineering and some Ph.D. level programs in future with high facilities promises in new place Kirtipur, Tribhuvan University area. Initially it had training in mechanical trade courses but immediately after that it started three years courses in mechanical engineering for 48 students passed from SLC. But, now the campus has bachelor and masters classes in 8 programs with 1472 students in engineering. Initially it has four buildings with workshops only now has hostels, one big E building, Library building and drawing building to accommodate all programs, administration and all necessary activities. It has now presentation hall for 4 programs and a common 200 seated auditorium hall. It has also a small house for robotics and automation center for student's research works and preparation of projects. It is only one engineering campus in capital owned by government college run by Tribhuvan University so the fee are nominal and it is one of target college for excellent students passed from the different 10+2 passed students and for bachelor level passed students to study in masters level study. Most marginal students from all over the country are learning in this institute currently here the students from the more than 40 districts are learning different faculties. Since it has long history in engineering education, most qualified man power from this campus is working all over the country in engineering field. It has committed to provide quality education having best curriculum, syllabus applicable for local community to standard education for international studies. It has sufficient classrooms with well furnished, laboratory with advanced instruments, high level work-shops, presentation halls for good education. It provides sufficient sport spaces with basketball courts, table tennis court, small volleyball and football court. But in new promises it will have football ground and all other big open area with 175 Ropani land. In new premises the campus has plan to have full facilities for all programs and has great plan to establish research and development building for permanent base national level research work and research training center. The campus has umbrella management committee of institute of engineering and TU steering committee and registrar office of TU, TU service commission and other TU facilitated organizations. The government of Nepal is providing its economic support for administration and other necessary things. The campus has set its clear vision, mission and goals with plans and activities to full filling the quality of education. It has strong educational faculties with higher skilled and experience teachers having re-known educational excellences. It has strong tradition of research and development through project works and thesis works in which students and teachers involve in developing new devices and research works. The robotics and automation center is engaged in new robots and devices for campus exhibitions, national and international competitions. Similarly the student societies are highly active for faculty wise trainings, competitions and publishing the magazines. In all faculties there are professional student society which is being a base of new innovations and extra activities for teaching welfares especially for training in new technology beyond the courses and relevant to community and national needs. The Campus has Research and Development unit which is being fundamental organization for creating research environment by providing research trainings, research proposals for teachers with granting financial support .The EMIS unit is working IT sector for providing high band width Internet service and WI_FI service for all teachers, students and staffs to all office rooms and area of campus. It has its own server, routers to all building and Wi-Fi antenna in all building and outside. It has campus website and e-mail services for all students providing campus mail address and service of genuine Microsoft software with collaboration with Microsoft Company Microsoft innovation center (MIC) Nepal. The Thapathali campus has service of mobile apps and EMIS software for all teachers and staffs and students from which they can use for educational teaching learning from attendance to on line exams. This software ware includes administrative integrity, inventory, departmental works etc. Similarly campus has KOHA open source well-known library software and D-space software for publications and thesis works. There is software for account and administration also for better administrative works. The campus has full extra activities in campus such as campus cleaning, blood donations and earth quake related trainings and services. Campus has special lab of 3-D printing established by US led organization DISASTER_HACK which provides trainings for developing accessories for physically handicapped people. Campus has its own programs for teacher trainings for new teachers and old teachers to aware the teaching methodologies and practice. Many teachers use to conduct their papers and presentation in halls. At least one or two visiting professors are invited for presenting relevant subjects which helps campus to create teaching learning environments. The campus has added the 4 new programs during last 15 years two in bachelor and two in master level which is only available in this campus in Nepal entirely. The campus has intention to ass two new programs in future which will create the campus as center for new technology of university. In this way Thapathali campus has been spreading the higher education for more than half decades and its quality of education is increasing by different activities in the field of research and internet base teachings.

SUMMARY OF SSR The SSR (self-study report) is overall replica of campus as its own face and activities. It is written and presented as prescribed by QAA (quality assurance accreditation).It has explained from motto, vision, mission, gorals, activities with institutional profile, preambles of institutes, institutional lined up sentences and includes with conclusions of critical appraisal of institution. The vision, mission, objectives are all mentioned in websites of IOE website and Thapathali campus websites along with its activities, plan .The supporting evidences are mentioned in appendix and filed in annex book page wise to proportional questionnaire. In the time preparing the SSR, the campus has gone through several meetings, discussions and interaction between SSR committee, IQAAC committee, campus administration, related teachers staff, exam and account section, students union and student organizations and other stake holders like industry, parents etc. Thus, this report in the product of the collective effort of all the teaching and noon teaching staffs, campus administration .all departments and sections like library ,inventory etc. Through SSR got its own strengths and weakness which is obviously base for new steps in progressing academic quality and accreditation. The campus has now written format of campus teaching learning process, plans activities and present available faculties and it can be used for all new actions and plan in future. All these are not digital form which makes it easy to store and reprint in any time and helps to revise easily. It will be campus website in archive so it will available for all stakeholders open for every time. In SSR , here is explained all information of campus as of basic institutional activities, committee available for better campus improvements. The campus is now running the six faculties in bachelor level as electronics and communications, civil, architecture industrial, automobile, mechanical, industrial engineering. Similarly in masters it has earthquake engineering and mechanical design and manufacturing in evening shit. Campus conducts many trainings and workshops and other activities as per requires .The campus has clear budgeting activities and staff movement from the side administration and exam sections for conduction internal exams and external exams. Campus has digitized account section and inventory sections. Now all sections of campus is going to integrate through the EMIS software along with teaching learning system. The campus has website and mobile and cloud bas software which makes easy to be informed all campus staffs, teachers and students and all stake holders. The campus has research and development unit which encourage students and teachers for research by providing fund for research and all the project and thesis works are forced to have research works. Campus has co-operative with many national and international organization it terms academic quality improvements in the field of IT and new technology. The campus has big building for academic classes and other 5 buildings for library, hostel, administration and machine work-shops and fabricating workshops. Besides this, the small buildings for drawing lab, material lab are in side of campus premises. It consists of motor garage, canteen guard home etc. The campus area is made green with garden and small jungle for clean environment. It has contract base cleaning staffs which are being efficient for clean campus. The campus has EMIS unit to update and maintenance the websites, internet and Wi- Fi and computers and server system. Campus use to publish regular base campus informative magazine and research base article including magazine innovation. It has informative cells for restoring information of activities and other phenomena of campus. The campus has strong alumnae of students as well as alumnae of robotics center which use to gather every year to discuss campus activities and their role in campus. The campus has digitized library system with full of required books and reference books. The departments are with sufficient teachers, instructors and lab boys. However campus is interesting more space for more programs and more facilities as it wants one separate research buildings with full equipped research labs and 24 hour based research works and research projects. It also discussing to form IT center with high quality internet and IT rooms for students to make study and work through computers. For this campus is going to build new building in Kirtipur area where already designed for most reliable university level facilities and it has target to complete the new building site within two years. For this KOICA and government of India is going to help to build and equip the new campus site with all required materials and developments.
