Narrative Report (limit to 500 words) I am the Chief Academic Officer for Mass General Brigham (formerly Partners HealthCare) and Harvard Medical School Faculty Dean for Academic Programs at Mass General Brigham. I am a physician scientist by training with two main areas of research: Preeclampsia and Dialysis.

Pregnancy studies centered on human research supporting recent findings emerging from basic science collaborations in the area of angiogenic factors and preeclampsia. I performed pilot and proof-of-concept 55 Thadhani, Ravi studies, retrospective and prospective studies, and planned and performed interventional trials. I initiated the PRAECIS study (https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03815110), which is a registrational study evaluating the utility of angiogenic blood markers to predict the development of preeclampsia with severe presentations. It is the first prospective study of its kind and involves 15 centers across the United States enrolling approximately 1,000 pregnant women. I have also performed first-in-human clinical studies testing the safety and efficacy of an apheresis strategy to remove sFlt-1 from maternal blood with the goal of safely extending pregnancy among women admitted with severe preterm preeclampsia before 32 weeks of gestation (https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01404910)

In dialysis, I examined the effect of vitamin D in the survival of chronic hemodialysis patients. These included animal experimental studies, hypothesis generating observational studies, and randomized trials (https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00497146). In addition, supported by a series of innovative studies, we have also put forward the concept that bioavailable vitamin D better characterizes the bodies vitamin D status than total vitamin D measurements.

Over the past several years, I have held several academic leadership positions including Massachusetts General Hospital: Chief of Nephrology; Mass General Brigham: Executive Director of the Clinical Trials Office; and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles: Vice Dean of Research and Graduate Research Education, and Chair of Biomedical Sciences.
