OTTB MAKES GIRL=S DREAM COME TRUE MANY POTENTIAL TWISTS By Bill Finley IN THIS SPIRAL Barefoot Mailman (Silver Train) didn=t accomplish much on the racetrack, but the now 8-year-old seems ready to do something far more important than winning a horse race-- bringing joy and hope to a 15-year-old girl who has been battling bone cancer. Converted to a show horse and renamed Cos (Cosnochta is the Gaelic word for barefoot), he was given to Madison White as part of the Make-A-Wish Southern Florida program. White has been riding for years but wanted a horse of her own and picked Barefoot Mailman out of a small group of horses that Make-A- Wish said might be available to her. AHe=s like a big puppy dog,@ White said after her wish came true. AHe likes to lick you on the head and ears. He=s really energetic and fun to ride and he really makes me happy.@ Cont. p7

Kitten=s Cat winning the Kitten=s Joy | Adam Coglianese IN TDN EUROPE TODAY A KNIGHT TO REMEMBER FOR BLUE DIAMOND by Joe Bianca Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar of Blue Diamond Stud run A diverse group of 12 sophomores, coming from all different their first homebred Group 1 winner, Decorated Knight (GB) directions, will hook up in the GIII JACK Cincinnati Casino Spiral (Galileo {Ire}), in Saturday’s G1 Dubai Turf. Click or tap here to go straight to TDN Europe. S., with Ken and Sarah Ramsey's Kitten's Cat (Kitten's Joy) made a lukewarm morning-line favorite to give the couple a second straight Spiral crown. Making his synthetic track debut after seven grass outings, the homebred captured the Juvenile Turf Sprint S. on the Breeders' Cup undercard last fall and annexed the stake named for his sire Feb. 4 at Gulfstream before running a good second in the GIII Palm Beach S. last out Mar. 4. The Ramseys' Oscar Nominated (Kitten's Joy), pulled a 23-1 upset in last year's Spiral, and they also took home the hardware in 2010 and 2014. Anderson Thoroughbreds' 'TDN Rising Star' Parlor (Lonhro {Aus}) is an intriguing prospect who also will try synthetic for the first time. The dark bay colt was a very impressive maiden winner last August on the Ellis Park turf and ran an unlucky second in the Kentucky Downs Juvenile, beaten just a neck after a troubled trip. Parlor made his seasonal debut with an easy allowance/optional claiming score Feb. 22 over the Tampa lawn, an effort that earned him the 'Rising Star' nod.

Ed DeRosa of TwinSpires .com takes on TDN's Steve Sherack and Brian DiDonato as they handicap each prep race leading up to the GI Kentucky Derby. The three will make $100 Win/Place bets--highest bankroll after the Lexington S. wins.

DeRosa: GII Rebel S. - Turning for home in the Rebel, I was feeling pretty good about my selection of Malagacy--not only because he looked like a winner, but also because he was a decent price as the 3.3-1 second choice with 8-5 favorite American Anthem nowhere to be found. Glory is as fleeting as my lead in TDN=s Throwdown contest, however, as any joy of adding 760 Apoints@ to my mythical bankroll quickly dissipated after 112.3-1 Sonneteer won the photo for second to give Steve Sherack 2,910 points--more than I=ve earned all year--and a good lead among the handicapping trio. Bankroll: $2480.

G2 UAE Derby - The good news is, there=s plenty of racing left, including three events this weekend beginning with the first 170-point race (with 100 to the winner): The UAE Derby. Is a challenging puzzle of horses coming from all over the world at different interims. Some are making their seasonal debuts, others have raced locally, etc. I=m going to go to the same angle as Classic Empire in the Breeders= Futurity and bet the horse who threw his jock in his last start after showing promise in his first two starts: Fawree. His form on Bee Jersey puts him in the mix enough against likely favorite Thunder Snow to take a shot at a bigger price. Selection: #6 Fawree (8-1).

GIII Spiral S. - The impulse with the Spiral S. is to reach for a price, but I can=t make a good enough case for any one horse not to take Kitten=s Cat, who has both the speed and class edge here and should get a good trip behind the Maker pair (Fast And Accurate and En Hanse who both figure to be on the front end). The Awide open@ nature of the race might help us get the morning line of 4-1. This horse is worth an actual bet (i.e. not just a mythical contest play) at 3-1 or better. Selection: #8 Kitten=s Cat (4-1).

Road to the Triple Crown Throwdown cont. GIII Spiral S. - This may be the right time to give four-time DiDonato: GII Rebel S. - Well, I guess this thing=s over... at least beaten favorite Soglio another chance. His come-from-behind for me. Great job by Steve and Ed to land on the 112-1 runner- maiden win at Del Mar and closing second in the Eddie Logan up and winner, respectively. Silver Dust didn=t run terribly, but I put him right in the mix if his turf form translates to synthetic for expected him to step forward a little more than he did. Guess the always dangerous Graham Motion. Like the inside post, too. it=s time to start swinging for the fences. Bankroll: $1330. Selection: #2 Soglio (6-1). Brisnet.com PPs: UAE Derby & Spiral. G2 UAE Derby - He=s clearly got some mental stuff to work out, but Fawree seems pretty talented. The son of Kentucky Oaks and Spinster winner Keeper Hill was dominant when breaking his maiden here in January, and was favored against a couple of these in the Mar. 4 Al Bastakiya, but he reared up when the assistant starter took off his blindfold in the gate and dropped his rider. Fawree has reportedly been working with ASouth Africa=s leading equine behavioral therapist@ since that debacle, and it sounds like he=s much more comfortable in the gate now. If he breaks ok, I expect him to give a very good account of himself. Selection: #6 Fawree (8-1).

GIII Spiral S. - Considering how much his near miss in the Kentucky Downs Juvenile S. last year cost me, I can=t not take Parlor here. The Eddie Kenneally trainee was super impressive WARD, HOLLENDORFER CLASH IN breaking his maiden first out on the Ellis lawn last summer, and BOURBONETTE OAKS by Joe Bianca I=m pretty sure he had trouble or something at Kentucky Downs- One was bought for $510,000, the other for $17,000, but they -I can=t actually bring myself to watch that replay, though. A KNIGHT TO REMEMBER ARROGATE TAKES ON THE WORLD What Juddmonte Farms=s Arrogate (Unbridled=s Song) has FOR BLUE DIAMOND TEAM achieved in his seven-race career thus far has been nothing short of phenomenal, and the 4-year-old looks to have more records within his reach as he lines up as the heavy 1-3 international favourite for Saturday=s $10-million G1 Dubai World Cup. Arrogate announced himself as a likely superstar with a 13 1/2-length demolition of the GI Travers S. at Saratoga last summer, and the grey built on that promise when defeating last year=s World Cup winner, California Chrome (Lucky Pulpit), in the $6-million GI Breeders= Cup Classic. Arrogate has made one start this season: a 4 3/4-length romp in the inaugural $12- million GI Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 28, and a win on Saturday would see him surpass California Chrome as the richest-ever North American-trained Thoroughbred. It would also make him the second-richest horse in the world, behind only Japanese Triple Crown winner Orfevre (Jpn) (Stay Gold {Jpn}). Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar with advisor Tony Nerses in Dubai Arrogate=s trainer, Bob Baffert, knows what it takes to win the Emma Berry 1 1/4-mile race, his two previous winners Captain Steve and By Emma Berry Silver Charm placing him second only to Saeed bin Suroor for Dubai, UAE--Given adequate financial backing, the pursuit of number of wins in the race. breeding the best to the best should be easy. A Knight To Remember For Blue Diamond Team cont. from p1 "Of course having a Group 1 winner is what every breeder dreams of and especially for the age of our breeding operation-- it's not been so long that we have owned the stud," says Saleh Al Homaizi, who began owning horses in his native Kuwait 20 years ago, always in partnership with his friend and countryman Imad Al Sagar, before spreading his wings to Britain. The duo has been well advised on the racing and breeding front by manager Tony Nerses, who aided them to strike at the highest level early in their British ownership days, first with Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Araafa (Ire) (Mull Of Kintyre {Ire}) and then the following year, even more gratifyingly, with Derby winner Authorized (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}). While both Classic winners were sold to stand at stud, the partners have more recently retained ownership of Group 2 winner Sayif (Ire) (Kheleyf), who stands at Llety Farms, and have this season retired homebred G2 Gimcrack S. winner Ajaya (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) to Rathbarry Stud. While not currently standing stallions themselves, they have bought two farms on the outskirts of Newmarket at which to base their breeding operation. Al Homaizi explains, "After the early success we had with Araafa and Authorized and many others, we felt that the best way to go forward and to be able to get the best bloodlines was to breed our own, because long term that potentially gives you a better chance of getting Group horses, and that's what "I don't just get nervous on race day, the nerves start for me happened with Ajaya--we bought his dam in foal, carrying him. now," he says. It he pulled me along with him." Cont. p3 was good advice," says Al Homaizi with a smile. "We paid a lot of money for Pearling of course but now she's worth so much more." What the 11-year-old mare has given her two owners cannot be measured solely in bloodstock valuations, however. Speaking from his hotel in Dubai two days ahead of the biggest meeting in the UAE, Al Homaizi--who has made the short trip from his home country--says, "It's a really proud moment for us to have a runner at the Dubai World Cup meeting. It's a real sense of achievement and satisfaction. Maybe it doesn't have the same history as Royal Ascot, but it is still a very young meeting and it is now very important, with more than 80% of the guests who will be attending coming from outside Dubai." As our discussion is taking place, Imad Al Sagar arrives at the hotel and immediately admits that he is very nervous ahead of the big night. With Decorated Knight set to return to Roger Charlton's Beckhampton stable next week ahead of a European summer campaign, which could potentially include appearances in the G1 Gold Cup, G1 Prince Of Wales's S. or G1 Coral-Eclipse S., the team is also looking forward to seeing his 3-year-old sister Ambrosia (GB) continue her racing career under the guidance of Roger Varian.
