First-Round Leaderboard Brendan Steele 62 (-8) Bud Cauley 63 (-7) Ryan Moore 63 (-7) Brendan Steele Steele matched his career-low round on TOUR with a bogey-free, 8-under 62 in round one. His other 62 came earlier this year at the Waste Management Phoenix Open (T6). Steele previously held the first-round lead/co-lead at the 2011 Frys.com Open (T7) and 2013 RBC Canadian Open (T68). Steele’s previous best round at TPC River Highlands was a round two 64 in 2011. Steele’s finishes at the Travelers Championship: 2011/T13, 2012/MC, 2013/T13. Steele has made 11 of 18 cuts on TOUR this season with two top 10s (T6/Waste Management Phoenix Open and T10/Northern Trust Open). Steele, who has traditionally used a long putter on TOUR, made the switch back to a short putter for the first round of the Travelers Championship. Travelers became the title sponsor of its hometown tournament in 2007. The announcement was made by Travelers Chairman and CEO Jay Fishman, Travelers Executive Vice President and CAO Andy Bessette, PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem, and Tournament Director Nathan Grube, during a morning press conference at the Connecticut Convention Center in downtown Hartford.
