Conference Record 2019 Postseason Finish . NCAA Quarterfinal None . .2019 Postseason Finish Nickname . Bears Pioneers . Nickname Location . Hickory, N.C. Greeneville, Tenn. Location Head Coach . Mike Jacobs (1st Season) Jerry Odom (5th season) . .Head Coach Conference Affiliation . South Atlantic South Atlantic . .. Conference Affiliation NOTES • With both Tusculum and Lenoir-Rhyne winning last week, the championship game was set between the two programs. However, the SAC Championship was originally scheduled for April 17 but was moved up a week due to both the Pioneers and Bears losing their opponents due to COVID shutdowns for this weekend. • Lenoir-Rhyne has won 20 straight games against South Atlantic Conference opponents with two of those wins coming in the NCAA Playoffs. The last loss to a SAC foe came back on Nov. 11, 2017 when the Bears dropped a 24-20 contest at Catawba. • Lenoir-Rhyne will be looking for the 24th conference championship in program history and their third straight SAC title. • LR is looking to become the first three-peat champions since they did it themselves back in 2012-14. The last non-Lenoir-Rhyne team to win three straight SAC titles was Carson-Newman who accomplished the feat from 2002-04. • Lenoir-Rhyne owns the all-time head-to-head matchup 13-10 against Tusculum and has won eight straight against the Pionners. The last time Lenoir-Rhyne lost to Tusculum came back in 2011 when they suffered a one points loss, 26-25. In total, the Bears have won 10 of the last head-to-head matchups with Tusculum. • Senior QB Grayson Willingham surpassed 5,000 career passing yards in Lenoir-Rhyne’s win over Wingate and currently needs just 26 passing yards to move into second place in program history. 1 LENOIR-RHYNE FOOTBALL 2020-21 LENOIR-RHYNE TWO-DEEP Offense Defense OL 70 XAVIER JENNINGS (6-3, 275, FR) DL 41 QUENTIN HAYES (6-0, 225, SR) 68 Nash Shook (6-4, 265, R-Fr) 93 De’Andre Shelton (6-2, 230, So) OL 77 BRYCE HEIDINGER (6-4, 250, So) DL 98 RASHAD YELDING (6-0, 280 So) 59 Kurtis Feanny (6-1, 280, Jr) 32 Andre Jefferson (6-2, 275, Fr) OL 54 BLAKE JEFFERSON (6-0, 290, SO) DL 56 AMARI HOUSTON (5-11, 265, SR) 67 Jake Patterson (6-1, 290, R-Fr) 98 Rashad Yelding (6-0, 280, So) OL 71 ISAAC CHAPMAN (6-2, 280, So) DL 79 ZEKE NANCE (6-4, 245, R-SO) 78 Phillip Davis (6-0, 310, So) 52 Willie Lane (6-3, 260, Fr) OL 51 IAN BRINSON (6-4, 305, SR) LB 25 JON ROSS MAYE (6-0, 210, FR) 66 Shane Wells (6-4, 250, So) 40 Chris Bailey (6-0, 230, Fr) TE 33 JOHN GODWIN (6-3, 230, FR) LB 28 PRESTON JOSEPH (6-0, 200, SR) 42 CODY OSBURN (6-4, 240, JR) 49 Donte Young (5-11, 230, Sr) WR 12 RYAN CARTER (5-11, 190, JR) LB 17 PERCY KING (6-2, 200, FR) 6 Tre Luttrell (6-1, 190, So) 5 Amarrian Brown (6-1, 180, Sr) WR 13 KELIN PARSONS (6-1, 185, FR) DB 3 CHRIS BROWN (5-9, 210, FR) Specialists 9 Jordan Payne (5-10, 155, Fr) 23 T.J. DIVISION II FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS RECORDS BOOK 2017 Championship 2 History 3 All-Time Results 21 Brackets 27 2017 CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHTS Texas A&M-Commerce defeats West Florida for program's first DII championship: Texas A&M-Commerce came into Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan. looking for its first NCAA program title in history. The Lions left the 2017 Division II football national champions, defeating West Florida in a thrilling 37-27 champion- ship game. “That was a fantastic game played by two really good football teams,” Lions head coach Colby Carthel said. “I’m still not really sure we’re the two best teams in Division II, but we’re the two best teams that got it done during the playoffs. “We both had a long hard road through the playoffs to get to this stage. Tonight it was two good teams battling it out and we made a few more plays than they did to pull out the victory.” Carthel took over a program that had a history of losing seasons and turned the Lions into Lone Star Conference champions seemingly over night. West Florida head coach Pete Shinnick had his program sitting on the cusp of a national championship in just its second season. “I’m extremely proud of our guys,” Shinnick said. “Just how they continued to fight and continued to play throughout the course of this season. I think the type of team we have, when we got the ball there at the end, every one on the sideline is thinking we’re going to score and get the onside kick.
