St. Isidore Catholic Church www.stisidoreparish.org 5 Stewardship in Today’s Scripture Stewardship Today we reach the finale of the Easter season with the celebration of the great Feast of Pentecost. The grateful disciple’s Reflecting on today’s readings inspires a sense of awe as we way of life consider the mighty power of the Holy Spirit at work giving birth to and sustaining our Church. Just as awesome — the same Spirit is calling to us this day to take up our part in the Church’s saving work.

In the first reading, from Acts, we see the creative genius of the Holy Spirit moving through the newly confirmed Apostles “who began to speak in different tongues as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.” The large crowd, gathered from all over the world were “amazed” and “astounded” that each one could understand the Apostles speaking in their own language.

Each one of us, young and old alike, is personally called today by the Holy Spirit into the same mission as that of the first Apostles — to advance the Kingdom of God in our corner of the world. Just as He did on that Pentecost day, the Holy Spirit speaks to us in our “own language” to give us the Good News of the Gospel and urge us to share it. We can think of our own language as the particular gifts, talents and passions we possess. We experience the presence of the Holy Spirit through them and we are meant to put them to the work in grateful service of the Kingdom of God. Pastor’s Corner continued from page 3 Spirit. We are called to honestly be- lieve that Jesus continues to send his Spirit in our time. The Spirit is not just given to others, but also to us. And we were also taught “whatever you ask the Father in my name, he will give you.” Our task is to believe and to ask. Liv- ing our lives as disciples of the Lord Jesus is not an easy task. We struggle to make his values and principles a part of our lives more and more each day. And we know that we cannot do this on our own. Fortunately, we have the Spirit to strengthen us in our efforts. Today we ask the Father to send the Spirit upon us in a deeper way than we have ever ex- perienced before. If we ask for the gifts of the Spirit, God will give us these – and more. With today’s feast of Pente- cost we mark the end of the Easter Season. Beginning on Monday, we return to the season of Ordinary Time (10th Week), picking up where we left off in March when we began Lent on Ash Wednes- day. Throughout the 50-day East- er season, the Easter Candle has had a place of prominence next to the pulpit. That candle with the sign of fire was a symbol of the presence of the risen Lord among us, and was burned at every Mass. Now the Easter Candle will be “retired” to the Baptistry and used only for the celebration of Bap- tisms and funerals. Thank you to all who have already pledged to the 2019 Joliet Diocesan Catholic Ministries An- nual Appeal, and especially to those who responded during our in-pew “Commitment Weekends.” continued on page 9

The Book of Revelation Commentary by Dr. Scott Hahn and Mark Shea - presented by Fr. Matthew Kauth. Revelation is one of the most confusing and misunderstood books of the Bible. Thankfully, we have the one true Church of Jesus Christ to interpret its dramatic signs and symbols. Scott Hahn, Mark Shea, and Fr. Matthew Kauth help you dive into the 22 engrossing chapters with renewed understanding and relevant historical context, all guided by the Magisterium of Christ’s bride, the Church.
