JESUS IS COMING! JESUS IS COMING! Advent comes from adventus, coming. As one church year ends and another begins, we also celebrate the feast day of our parish’s patron, Saint Andrew, who was first called by Jesus and then went to his brother Simon (Peter) and said, “We have found the Messiah.” YES, and His Name is Jesus! Of course, at Christmas we celebrate that Jesus has come already, yet He promised a Second Coming and so we still wait. At the end of the liturgical year, we reflect on those who have gone before us and are now dust and ashes, who with us are awaiting the Second Coming of Jesus on the Final Day of Resurrection. So as one year ends and another begins, let us continue to pray for all of us, living and deceased, who await that Second Advent of Jesus. A parishioner shared with me a beautiful prayer that is worth praying — let’s pray together:

Grant, O Lord, that my own heart may be touched, as yours is, at the passing of all souls into eternal life. You experienced deep and loving relationships, too, and wept at the death of your friend, Lazarus. So with great hope and confidence, I pray for all my loved ones and friends who are no longer here with me. Together we await the Second Coming of Christ Jesus.

I know that it is in our memories that our loved ones live on, and so I will remember. My remembering has made me cry. Bless my tears, Lord, as a source of your compassion. My remembering has made me laugh. Bless my laughter as an avenue for my joy. My memories remind me of guilty times — those I wish I would have, or if only I could have times. Bless my guilt, Lord, as a channel for my learning.

My remembering has given me new strength. Bless that strength as the movement of your Spirit. My remembering has brought me healing. Bless that healing as an outpouring of your love.

My memories remind me of how precious the gift of life really is. Bless the life we had together. My remembering takes me down roads I walked with my loved one. Bless the road I now walk and bless those who walk with me offering companionship and strength when mine falters.

As we await your Coming, Loving and Merciful God, keep me always in the knowledge that you travel with me…

God the Father with outstretched arms of love, God the Son who enters the depths of my pain, and God the Spirit who heals my aching heart. Amen.

In the loving Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Fr. Gregor Your Tax Dollars for Abortions?

Illinois lawmakers returned to the state capitol on Tuesday, November 15, for the beginning of their fall veto session. House Bill 4013 was moved by Speaker Madigan (D-Chicago) to its third reading. This means it can be called for a vote at any time during this Lame Duck Veto Session (Nov. 15, 16, 17, 29, 30, and Dec. 1), the final stretch of the 99th Session of the Illinois General Assembly. HB 4013 is a terrible, big government and pro-abortion bill, removing all prohibitions on using taxpayer- funding for abortions throughout the full nine months of pregnancy under Medicaid and removing the ban on state employee’s insurance policies paying for abortions. To give some perspective, based on the current number of Medicaid recipients, HB 4013 would have the potential to increase abortions in Illinois by at least 37 percent! In real numbers, that would be about 15,000 babies slaughtered with our tax dollars each year! Please pray and, if so moved, call your state representative to insist they oppose the use of your tax dollars going to kill pre-born babies and, thereby, harming the psychological, physical, and spiritual life of the mother. Most effective are phone calls to the Springfield office, where they keep count of the number of phone calls received on an issue.

The great majority of American people have historically opposed the use of public money to support or promote elective abortion. HB 4013 removes the prohibition on state-funded grants to organizations that perform abortions or refer or counsel for abortions. Current law calls for these grants to go to organizations that assist women experiencing problem pregnancies. Why cannot this money go to places like Waterleaf, where pregnant mothers receive support with compassionate help? Waterleaf has three priorities: (1) preventing unplanned pregnancies through in-school education classes promoting sexual integrity and sexual risk avoidance, (2) providing free and compassionate clinic services for abortion-minded women and men to make an informed choice for life, and (3) prevailing through life-skill programs over the cycle of behaviors that lead to risky lifestyle choices. Pro-life pregnancy resource centers are there for mothers at their darkest hours, so that all can experience a joyful mother who excitedly presents her new baby to those who have supported her from the beginning. FEAST OF OUR LADY OF THE MIRACULOUS MEDAL

On November 27, 1830 Mary appeared to St. Catherine Laboure in the motherhouse of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent DePaul, in Paris. The Blessed Mother was standing on a globe with streams of light coming from her hands. Around her were the words “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.” Our Blessed Lady told Sister Catherine that a medal was to be made of this picture. Soon, because of all the wonderful graces obtained by those who wore the medal, it became the “Miraculous Medal.” The Vincentian Family has always been rooted in a special devotion to Mary, and the Miraculous Medal is one of our treasured gifts.

“I do not know how to find words for what I experienced and perceived, or for the beauty and the splendor of those magnificent rays (coming from the hands of the Blessed Virgin). Mary told me, “They are the symbol of the graces which I shed on those who ask me for them. Have a medal struck according to this model; all those who wear it, especially if they wear it around the neck, will receive great graces, and these graces will be abundant for those who wear it with confidence.” (From St. Catherine Laboure’s account of the apparitions, November 27, 1830).

Legion of Mary News - All Parishioners of St. Andrew the Apostle will have an opportunity to have their homes enthroned with the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Legion of Mary will host this enthronement at no cost to you, it’s absolutely free! All you have to do is come to the front of the Church after Mass on the weekend of December 3rd & 4th. The members of the legion will be available to you.

The only requirement is that you pray the consecration prayers on the day you receive your enthronement form, sign it and receive a copy of optional daily prayers.

The Diocese of Joliet had requested this be done as early as 2012. The Legion of Mary would normally perform the enthronements in homes which required two home visits, it has now been requested that a more convenient way to perform the enthronements, in order to do as many as possible.

Pope St. John Paul II in a talk given to families of the world said, “Always keep your eyes on the Sacred Heart of Jesus, King and center of all hearts. From Him you will learn at the great lesson of love, of goodness, of sacrifice, of piety, so necessary for every Christian family.”

Also, there are twelve promises given to St. Margaret Mary by Our Lord Jesus for those devoted to His Sacred Heart. 1. I will give them all the graces necessary for their state of life. 2. I will establish peace in their families. 3. I will console them in all their troubles. 4. They shall find in My Heart an assured refuge during life and especially at the hour of death. 5. I will pour abundant blessings on all their undertakings. 6. Sinners shall find in My Heart the source of an infinite ocean of mercy. 7. Tepid souls shall become fervent. 8. Fervent souls shall speedily rise to great perfection. 9. I will bless the homes in which an image of My Heart shall be exposed and honored. 10. I will give to priests the power of touching the most hardened hearts. 11. Those who propagate this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be effaced. 12. The all-powerful love of My Heart will grant to all those who shall receive Communion on the First Friday of nine consecutive months the grace of final repentance; they shall not die under My displeasure, nor without receiving their Sacraments; My Heart shall be their assured refuge at that last hour. Andrew, like his brother Simon Peter, was a fisherman. He became a disciple of the great St. , but when John pointed to Jesus and said, "Behold the Lamb of God!" Andrew understood that Jesus was greater. At once he left John to follow the Divine Master. Jesus knew that Andrew was walking behind him, and turning back, he asked, "what do you seek?" When Andrew answered that he would like to know where Jesus lived, Our Lord replied, "Come and see." Andrew had been only a little time with Jesus when he realized that this was truly the Messiah.

From then on, he chose to follow Jesus. Andrew was thus the first disciple of Christ. Next, Andrew brought his brother Simon (St. Peter) to Jesus and Jesus received him, too, as His disciple. At first the two brothers continued to carry on their fishing trade and family affairs, but later, the Lord called them to stay with Him all the time. He promised to make them fishers of men, and this time, they left their nets for good. It is believed that after Our Lord ascended into Heaven, St. Andrew went to to preach the gospel. He is said to have been put to death on a cross, to which he was tied, not nailed. He lived two days in that state of suffering, still preaching to the people who gathered around their beloved Apostle. Two countries have chosen St. Andrew as their patron - Russia and Scotland.
