CAL offers support to rural communities on community led plans to help them develop and grow. In North Lanarkshire, CAL supports , Allanton, , , Plains, , Upperton and Harthill. CAL’s vision is that community decisions will be made for each place, in that place, by the people who live there. Time for Us Project – Supporting Children and their Families Time for Us is a project which supports families with children in a caring role in several areas within Airdrie including Chapelside, Caldercruix and Plains. During August and October 2018 the project provided a range of activities for children and parents from 26 families, including arts, swimming and yoga. Children made new friendships and felt supported and accepted. One child said “It’s taught me that it’s OK to go out of my comfort zone and that it’s fun to try new things” Parents said that the activities reduced stress, helped them meet other parents and reduced time their kids spent using technology. A natural peer support group has developed and the parents now meet every week and have great plans for the future. The Robertson Trust are a match funder (this means they do not fully fund projects or activities) and can consider both Revenue and Capital requests for funding. Capital awards may relate to the upgrading of buildings, refurbishment costs, vehicles or equipment. They may fund up to 25% of your capital costs Revenue awards relate to expenses associated with the direct delivery of your services. The Robertson Trust can fund up to 50% of your revenue costs, but such awards generally do not exceed £20,000 per year. The programme, which is hosted by VANL, focuses on building community and individual capacity to improve the choice and control people have in their lives. The programme is funding three different projects; older person’s advocacy (delivered by Equals Advocacy), two full time community connectors (hosted by North Lanarkshire Disability Forum) and a series of events hosted by the locality host organisations.
