SIT submits interim report in Ishrat case The Special Investigation Team, appointed by the Gujarat High Court for a fresh probe into the alleged fake encounter killing of Ishrat Jahan, submitted its interim report before a Division Bench of Justices Jayant Patel and Abhilasha Kumari. The Mumbra()–based college girl and three others were killed on the outskirts of Ahmedabad in June 2004. The State police claimed that the four were Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives and had come to Gujarat to kill Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

30 radar stations planned along east coast In an effort to increase the efficiency of coastal surveillance, the Indian Coast Guard plans to set up a chain of 30 radar stations along the east coast of the country including Tamil Nadu. Inspector General S.P. Sharma, Commander, Coast Guard Region (East), said that it had been planned to install 67 radar stations along east and west coast of the country. As many as 30 stations would be located in different places of eastern coast from Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu to Paradip in Orissa. While 11 radar stations would be set up in Andaman & Nicobar, the Lakshaweep would have 4 stations.

UPA government readying grievance redressal Bill The UPA government has almost readied the draft of the National Grievance Redressal Bill, 2011, covering the lower rung officialdom even as Parliament has approved a similar proviso to bring them within the ambit of the proposed Lokpal. Under the law, each State will have a public grievance commission whose members will be selected by the Governor in consultation with the Chief Minister, Leader of the Opposition and a sitting judge nominated by the Chief Justice of the State High Court.

AIBA team cancels visit to Pakistan A 15-member delegation of jurists cancelled a goodwill visit to Pakistan in the wake of bomb blast at the Delhi High Court complex. The delegation, under the banner of the All- Bar Association (AIBA), was to have left India on September 8 on a mission to develop friendly relations with Pakistan, AIBA chairman Adish Aggarwala said.

Govt to reconsider Dreamliner deal The government may rethink its decision to acquire 27 Dreamliner aircraft for Air India from US manufacturer Boeing owing to growing concerns about financing of the deal.
