The First Interstate Bank Athletic Foundation's 1982 College Basketball All-~~erica Tea.~ is composed of 39 most talented players - 15 forwards, 12 centers and 12 guards. Most of them were members of teams which placed high in National rankings, as well teams which competed in the N.C.A.A. and N.I.T. tournaments. Mitchell Anderson, Bradley, the N.I.T. MVP, was cited. So was Harry Kelly, Texas Southern, 's most prolific scorer (30.5), vJith average of ll.3. Three teams each placed two players on the All-America Team -- North Carolina: James Worthy "nd . Georgetown: Pat Ewing and Eric Floyd. Tulsa: P3 ul Pressey and Greg Stewart.

Th2re were seven 1981 All-Americans who gained repeat recognition in 1982 -- (, Irvine), TeEry Teagle (Baylor), Dominique vlilkins (Georgia), Scott Hastings (Arkansas), Ralph Sampson (Virginia), Greg Stewart (Tulsa), and Eric Floyd (Georgetown).

Not by intent, but as it turned out, the All-~~erica distribution was wide spread. Midwest institutions placed 9, South 8, Southwest 8, East 6, Pacific Coast 6, and Rockies 2. . • ·

As to the All-Americans' home States, and Texas led vdth 4. Georgia and Ohio follm·red 1-.ri th 3. James \·!orthy and Eric Floyd both hailed from Gastonia, North Carolina. The only All-American from beyond the States was Loyola-Chicago's 1vayne Sappleton, whose home~own is Kingston, Jamaica.

Interestingly so -- although All-&~ericans are not altogether rated by high points productions -- 17 of the 1982 All-Americans were listed in the upper bracket of the points-per-game average register. Nine of them were in the upper bracket of the rebounds-per-game average compilation. FIRST INTERSTATE BANK A'ffiLETIC FOUNDATION 78TH YEAR •• 1982 COLLEGE BASKETBALL ALL-AMERICA TEAM
