IUFRO at the Global Landscapes Forum

On 16 and 17 November 2013, the first Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) was organized at the University of , , on the sidelines of the 19th Conference of the Parties (COP19) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

In previous years there had been two separate events, the Forest Day and the , Landscapes and Livelihoods Day. The combination of the two events aimed to establish a joint global platform to raise awareness on the importance of sustainable landscapes. The Global Landscapes Forum drew more than 1200 participants including policy makers, scientists, climate negotiators, civil society, media, etc.

Discussions focused on four major themes: investing in Participants of the GLF Discussion Forum on Governance and sustainable landscapes in forests and on farms; Legal Frameworks for Sustainable Landscapes landscape policy and governance for forestry, agriculture (by Hugo Pierre, IFSA/IUFRO) and other land uses; synergies between adapting to and mitigating climate change in forest and agricultural IUFRO contributed actively to the Global Landscapes landscapes; and landscapes for food security and Forum in its capacity as a member of the Collaborative nutrition. The International Conference on Wood Adhesives 2013 took place from 9-11 October 2013 in Toronto, Canada, and involved IUFRO Division 5 Forest Products and Research Group 5.04.00 Wood Processing.

From adhesive suppliers to users of the downstream product, from industry to academia, government, or NGO, this conference provided an opportunity to interact with leaders in the field from around the world and hear about the latest developments. It is held every 4 years, this time with 226 attendees from 28 countries, and was organized by the US Forest Service, Forest Products Laboratory, the Forest Products Society, and the University of Toronto.

To encourage industry participation, the Wood-Based Composites Center (WBC), a U.S. National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center, was invited to hold their semi-annual Industry Photo provided by Forest Products Society: Plenary session Advisory Board Meeting in conjunction with the draws speakers and attendees from around the world to Conference.
