Our editorial team has been hugely impressed by the swift reaction of many banks across the world in responding to the Covid-19 crisis and the Excellence in Leadership awards recognise these efforts, says Lucy Fitzgeorge- Parker, Editor, CEE, Euromoney magazine, - Halyk Bank is awarded by Euromoney as a winner in the category «Excellence in leadership in CEE 2020» in the framework of the Awards for Excellence contest. In spite of all the challenges and difficulties of doing banking in the modern world, during these unprecedented times, Halyk Bank was instrumental in providing support payments from the government to the citizens of Kazakhstan. The bank had opened new accounts for more than 300,000 clients, as well as seeing uptake of its digital services for the first time by more than 500,000 existing clients. The bank’s IT people were working nearly 24 hours a day to create and test all the new services. Halyk Bank also undertook a big education effort in the first weeks of quarantine by issuing video manuals to explain how digital banking works via all of the bank’s channels – SMS, website, Facebook, Instagram etc. By mid-May some 80% of payments and client services were via remote channels – a big achievement in a very short time frame and a testament to the bank’s considerable technological capabilities. By doing so, Halyk Bank proved itself as a strong financial institution which provides first-class financial services and is trusted by partners and clients.”

“The recognition and high assessment of Halyk Bank from the professionals of the international expert community, received during the crisis that the world economy is experiencing in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, is especially valuable, confirming the strong position of the financial institution in the market. Taking into account modern challenges, Halyk Bank continues to pursue a course of implementation of a medium-term development strategy aimed at accelerating technological progress, digitalization, development of fast and comfortable client online services,”said Umut Shayakhmetova, Chairman of the Board of Halyk Bank.
