Bentley Motors Media: Bentley Continental and Bentley Azure final series announced Page 1 of 1 Bentley Continental and Bentley Azure final series announced 5 January, 2003 Detroit, 5th January 2003... Bentley Motors has announced that it will be producing Final Series editions of the Bentley Continental R coupé and Bentley Azure convertible. Only a limited number of Final Series models will be commissioned between now and mid-2003 as a fitting tribute to Bentley's continued presence and domination of this exclusive sector. Although they will be the last of the current model type to be built at Crewe, plans for a new two-door range of luxury, performance Bentleys to replace the much admired Continental R and Azure range, are set to reassert Bentley's position in the upper luxury performance car sector. Based on the current range, both the Continental R and Azure Final Series models will feature a series of performance-orientated additions designed to complement the already extensive Bentley Mulliner specification, further enhancing the car's 420bhp appeal. Both models, considered to be the most complete expression of two designs that were originally launched in 1991 (Continental R) followed four years later by the Azure, are set to become highly sought after collectors' items. Since their respective debuts, 1533 Continentals R and 1235 Azure models have been built at the Crewe factory, confirming their enduring appeal as the ultimate expression of dynamic, yet luxurious high-speed tourers. The Continental R will feature sporting five-spoke wheels and high-performance Bentley branded brake calipers finished in bright red. -

Chassis no: SCBZB25E32CH01771 Registration: DG02 NNE Registartion: DG02 NNE Price: £SOLD Chassis no: SCBZB25E32CH01771 Mileage: 34,000 Bentley's 1980s resurgence had hitherto relied exclusively on models whose basic architecture was shared with other Rolls-Royce products; but on display at Geneva in '85 was 'Project 90', a mocked-up coupé intended to gauge public response to the idea of a high-performance car unique to Bentley. When the real thing - the Bentley Continental R - was unveiled six years later, the waiting crowd burst into spontaneous applause. Styled with the assistance of consultants John Heffernan and Ken Greenley at Worthing-based International Automotive Design, the Continental R benefited from computer-aided design and wind tunnel testing in the devising of its sleekly streamlined shape. Despite the need to incorporate non-traditional features such as doors recessed into the roof, the result looked every bit a Bentley, albeit one restated for the 1990s. Also new was the gearbox, a four-speed automatic with an 'overdrive' top ratio, but the main focus of interest was the newcomer's performance. Needless to say this was outstanding, the combination of the 325bhp Turbo R engine in the new wind-cheating shape cutting the 0-60mph time to under 7 seconds and boosting top speed to around 150mph. -

Last engine to power the thirtieth and final Mulsanne 6.75 Edition by Mulliner, an exclusive series that closes Mulsanne production (Crewe, 2 June 2020) The mighty Bentley 6¾-litre V8 engine – the longest serving V8 design in continuous production – has finally reached the end of its handcrafted manufacturing run. The final engine was assembled in Crewe yesterday by the dedicated team of seven people, who between them have a combined experience of 105 years building Bentley’s iconic V8 engine. In production for more than 60 years, and with the same configuration and bore spacing as the very first version from 1959, the last L-Series engine will spend its life powering the 30th and last specially commissioned Mulsanne 6.75 Edition by Mulliner.
