Teaching Responsibilities

Throughout my academic career, I have had teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate, graduate, post graduate levels, as well as at medical schools. I also supervised and trained over 30 post-doctoral fellows. The numbers of courses in which I have participated are simply too numerous to list comprehensively; however, some of the courses in which I am currently involved are listed below. My lectures are primarily in the field of molecular biology, virology, and basic and clinical immunology and immunopathology. In addition to this, I have taught courses on retroviruses and the clinical & social aspects of AIDS. I have taught a number of laboratory courses, with a focus on molecular biology methods including PCR, in situ PCR and in situ hybridization, as well as more general bioanalytical techniques. For the last 14 years I have been teaching Biotechnology and Forensic Science courses at Claflin University. These are full courses with laboratories courses that includes every aspects of biotechnology and forensic. I initiated a Forensic DNA course that involves DNA Fingerprinting and is based on standards set by the FBI and the National Forensic DNA groups. This involves the whole gamete of Forensic DNA described in John Butler Book that I use as the Course Guidelines. This generally includes extensive training on STR analyses using ABI 310, 3100, 3130 and now state of the art ABI 3500. Furthermore, I have conducted workshops, worldwide to teach postdocs and senior scientists in in situ PCR, RT-PCR, and Real Time PCR techniques. The locations include Institute Pasture, Karolinska Institute, Cold Spring Harbor, and numerous top universities. I have given lectures on various topics in systemic and general pathology, molecular virology, microbiology and immunology at all three major medical schools, where I had worked. Currently, I am one of the instructors for UAG School of Medicine and Dow Health Science University, where I teach the whole Immunology and Forensic Biology Courses as a guest lecturer, once a year.
