PEEF(The Punjab Educational Endowment Fund) January - March 2020, Vol. 10 Issue 01 Board of Directors’ Meeting 6th meeting of the Board of Directors was held 3on February 14, 2020 under the Chairmanship of Justice (R) Aamer Raza Khan, Chairman PEEF. During the meeting, Dr. Kamran Shams, Chief Executive Officer PEEF briefed the participants that PEEF has awarded 374,855 scholarships, including PEEF-DFID & PEEF-CMMS PhD level foreign scholarships, worth Rs.20.00 billion (approx.) and with the inclusion of 9,000 fresh PEEF scholarships for the FY 2019-20, the total number of scholarship award will reach 383,855 (approx.).The Board reviewed the scholarship

disbursements and other internal matters and appreciated PEEF performance. The meeting concluded with the vote of thanks to the participants. MEETING WITH DFID TEAM

team from UK-Aid Department for International Development A(DFID) met PEEF management on January 16, 2020. DFID’s Provincial Representative for Punjab Mr. Jinal Shah led his team. PEEF’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Kamran Shams presented the progress review of PEEF-DFID scholarship program for female students of less developed districts (LDDs) of Punjab. Under the PEEF-DFID scholarship program, PEEF awarded 59,014 scholarships worth Rs.2.14 billion. DFID team showed their great satisfaction and appreciated the efforts and performance of PEEF team. They also showed inclination for projects in future with PEEF.

Focusing the true spirit of literature and the practice of reading among the youth a regular event in the cultural and literary calendar of the city ‘The 34th Annual Lahore International Book Fair (LIBF)’ held at the Expo Centre, Lahore from 6th to 10th February, 2020. Dozens of local, national and foreign publishers set up their stalls at the event offering books, on a wide range of subjects, having some rare prints too on remarkable discounts. This made 34th LIBF a great crowd puller. The book fair particularly witnessed the influx of families on Sunday. The Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) also showcased its stall at 34th LIBF. People from different factions of life and especial- ly students showed their interest in PEEF scholarships. PEEF team briefed in detail the visitors regarding its scholarships criteria and methodology. Everyone appreciated the noble cause of PEEF, owing to provide scholarships not only in domestic but also in foreign insti- tutions purely on merit basis to the deserving and talented students. Outreach Activities by PEEF and IBA he Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) and In- Tstitute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi jointly organized outreach activities. Awareness, information and ca- reer counseling sessions were conducted for talented and de- serving students. Through these sessions students were also encouraged for higher studies and to brief them scholarship opportunities offered by PEEF, IBA Karachi and Ihsan Trust. Ms. Huma Usman led her team from PEEF monitoring sec- tion, to make this awareness campaign successful by facilitat- ing and supporting IBA team during these outreach activities. More than 1,300 students attended 12 information and aware- ness sessions in their colleges. These sessions have been success- fully organized in 6 district headquarters of the following tehsils.

However, consequent to the request of School Education Department, Govt. of Punjab to vacate the office space, PEEF Office shifted to new premises at Ali Town Station, Raiwind Road, Thokar Niaz Baig, PEEF Lahore w.e.f. 3 NAMAL Team visits PEEF

r. Abid Hussain (Marketing MDirector) and Mr. Adnan Jani (Marketing Executive) from NAMAL Institute, visited PEEF office on January 23, 2020. On their visit, they met PEEF’s Senior Manager Scholarship Mr. Naveed Akbar Cheema, who briefed them regarding PEEF scholarships for Namal Institute. So far PEEF awarded 106 schoalrships worth Rs. 52.41 million. They lauded the performance of PEEF and its role in facilitation of deserving and talented students. ederal Secretary Education and FProfessional Training, Dr. Sajid Yoosufani visited PEEF office on Thursday December 26, 2019. CEO PEEF Dr. Kamran Shams along with PEEF team briefed him in detail regarding PEEF Vision, Mission, Objectives, Scholarship disbursement criteria and methodology. Federal Secretary Education had a detailed visit of different sections of PEEF. In his remarks, he stated; “PEEF is a robust and impressive system of scholarship disbursement. Well thought out and meticulously implemented. Excellent service delivery by simplifying the process! Well done PEEF”. 4 PEEF Scholarship Disbursement at Government College Women University, Faisalabad

he Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) scholarships amounting to Rs. 1.2 million were distributed among 40 talented students from different departments of the Government College Women University, Faisalabad (GCWUF) on December 17, 2019. Vice-Chancellor GCWUF Professor Dr. Robina Farooq distributed ‘PEEF scholarships’ among students and congratulated them on receiving scholarships. On the occasion, VC said; “PEEF’s role in Human Development is very crucial”. Students, their parents, Incharge Financial Aid Office Ms. Asma Zaheer and other officials of Government College Women University, Faisalabad were also Tpresent on the occasion.

5 Training Workshops at YDC, Murree

he Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) organized training workshops at Youth Development TCentre (YDC), Murree. These workshops took place from December 2019 to February 2020 for PEEF scholars. Team building, communication , leadership skills and personality grooming were the key elements of these training workshops.

Summary of Training Cohorts are as under:

•In December, 95 participants attended trainings held from 1st to 29th December. •In January, 60 participants attended trainings held from 9th to 29th January. •In February, 40 participants were the part of trainings held from 13th to 27th February.

y name is Haroon Chand. I belong to Mthe village Lalupur of tehsil Kamoki, district . We are 4 siblings and my father works as a labourer. All of my siblings are studying as my parents always dreamt that their children will get good education. As my father is a labourer and he faced serious injury while working. When I remember those days, I feel goose bumps as we faced pathetic financial conditions. But, I never want to quit myself from education. But when there is a will; there is a way, so I studied with leaps and bounds and got excellent marks in middle standard. But, to continue the education seemed to be impossible due to financial constraints.

One day, I saw an advertisement in a newspaper, while sitting in a college library. The advertisement was about Special Quota Scholarships for talented and deserving students offered by The Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF). Since I fulfill the criteria being student for Haroon Chand minority religion, I applied there immediately. The day of immense pleasure came when I FSc (Pre-Medical) was selected for PEEF SQ Level scholarships. , This scholarship proved to be a supporting hand financially to my family. I completed my Matriculation from Government Boys High School, Kamoki and courage to move in life with confidence. with good grades. My family was very happy. y name is Salman Masih. I belong to Mallanwala village, tehsil Pattoki. My father is a labourer. I have 3 siblings. As I am the only son, my parents always dreamt that I will become a doctor. My elder and younger Msisters are studying too. So, being a labourer it was difficult for my father to make both ends meet. I owed my parents’ dream and studied with zest and zeal. I passed Matriculation with flying colors from Government High School, Pattoki. My family felt proud on my result.

Once, my father got injured during work. All of us became worried. His injury left a question mark on my further studies. But, my father never lost patience and continued his family responsibilities by turning no stone unturned. As I received excellent marks in Matriculation, I easily got admission in FSc (Pre- Medical) at Punjab Group of Colleges, Pattoki. One day, I saw an advertisement of PEEF Special Quota Scholarships for religious minority students in Salman Masih newspaper while sitting at college library.
