Synoptic Situation: Monsoon axis runs through Rajstan, Hariyana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across central part of Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs extends to Northeast Bay. Monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and moderate elsewhere over North Bay.

Forecast: Light to moderate rain/T.showers accompanied by tempo. gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over , Rangpur, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy falls at places over the country.

 The flood situation in Manikganj, Munshiganj, Faridpur, Rajbari, Sariatpur, Madaripur, Jessor, Satkhira and Netrokona is likely to improve while the flood situation in Kushtia is likely to remain steady during next 24 hours.

 The Brahmaputra-Jamuna and the Ganges-Padma are in falling trend while the Meghna is in rising trend.

Next 24 hours  The Brahmaputra-Jamuna and the Ganges-Padma river systems are likely to fall.  The Meghna river systems are likely to rise.  The rivers around Dhaka are likely to rise.

District-wise Latest Situation of Flood

Satkhira 1017.65 sqkm areas from 66 union of 6 Upazillas and 02 Pouroshova of Satkhira district are inundated due to the increase of water level caused by heavy rainfall and onrush water from upstream (Jessore area). Due to the absence of water drainage system some areas are water logged. Local people and administration are continuing to drainage out the water by dredging the river, setting up pipes and culverts. Situation is improving as there is no rain.

Due to heavy rainfall and water logging, 8,26,124 people of 1,95,562 families have been affected in these 66 unions and 2 puroshovas. 25,440 acres crops fully and 18,205 acres partially, 528 Km road fully (Paka-144KM, Mud-384KM) and 1018 KM (Paka-280KM and Kacha-738KM) partially, 30 Educational institutes fully and 533 partially, 5.08 Km embankment fully and 82 KM partially have been damaged. 22,854 families have taken shelter into 280 Shelters.

Embankment on the river Kobadak at Deara union of Kalaroa pazilla is under threat. There is a possibility to deteriorate the situation if the embankment breach.

Distribution: Till now 945 MT GR rice, 8,80,000 Tk. GR Cash, 250pcs Plastic sheet, 250pcs Blue sheet and 78pcs have been distributed to the flood affected people.

Current Stock: GR Rice-272 MT, GR cash-1,20,000 Tk. Demand: GR Rice-500MT, GR Cash-25,00,000 Tk.

Jessore DRRO office informed, flood situation improving as there is no rain. But the low land areas of Keshobpur, Monirampur, Avoynagar and Jhikorgacha were water logged due to recent heavy rainfall.

Damages and losses are as follows: UP-31, Families-25,194, Crops- 5330 hectares (partially). 259 families into 2 shelters in Keshobpur upazilla and 260 people into 2 shelters of Monirampur upazilla took shelter.

Distributed: 18MT GR rice, 15000Tk GR cash and 20 tarpaulins are already distributed among these three Upazillas.

Current Stock: GR Rice-146 MT, GR Cash-1,45,000Tk and House building grant-53,000Tk.

Sherpur Water level of the rivers is continuing to recede. Water from inundated areas is going down as there is no rainfall. Repairing work in the displaced areas of the embankment adjacent to Jhinaigati parishad is ongoing. Besides low laying areas of almost all unions of Nalitabari upazila are inundated due to recent heavy rainfall and rise of water level and 5000 families are affected. The overall situation is improving.

The DC office has a stock of 53 MT GR rice and BDT 1,05,000 GR cash and house building grant 1,00,000.

Netrokona Deputy Commissioner with other administrative officer visited inundated areas of Durgapur Upazila last 18th August 2011. During visit it is observed that vast area of Durgapur upazila has been inundated. Many households are submerged with water. 2630 families of low lying areas are affected and remarkable areas of seed field and crops of this upazila including pourashava have been damaged. Water is receding from inundated area as there is no rainfall at now. Situation is improving.

25.00 MT GR Rice and BDT 50000.00 GR Cash have been allocated for distribution to the affected families.

At present 167.00 M.T GR Rice, BDT 138000 GR Cash and BDT 100000 house building grant are in stock.

Narail DRRO informed that the situation improved and water from the flooded areas is receding as there is no rain. But river erosion has been started there. Due to heavy rainfall 51,750 families were water logged in Narail district. 3670 houses fully and 19180 houses partially, crops of approximately 7607 acre have been damaged. Moreover 16 educational institutes are affected.

District administration distributed 30 MT GR rice to the affected people.

Kustia DRRO informed that rivers are flowing below danger level. But recently, Ramkrishnapur and Chilmari union of Doulatpur Upazilla were water logged due to heavy rainfall. Water is started to recede as there is no rain. Including DC several officers of district administration have visited these 2 Unions.

District administration has distributed 16 Mt GR rice, 100pcs Sharee, 100 Pcs Lungi and 50,000 Tk GR cash among the flood affected people.

Chuadanga Due to recent incessant downpour, most of the low laying areas of Hordi union of Alamdanga upazila are inundated and poor people are suffering from food shortage as there is not enough work. Affected family – 800, people – 1500, partially damaged houses – 300, fully damaged crop – 500 acre, partially damaged crop – 700 acre, damaged road – 15 km.

Stock in the district is 93.00 MT GR rice.

Bagerhat DRRO Office informed 3471 hectr Shrimp Hatchery of Mongla and Rampal of Bagerhat District have been inundated due to Water logging. Approximate 10500 families of two upazilas have been affected. Situation started improving.

10 MT GR Rice have been allocated among two upazilas. 57 M.T GR Rice, BDT 90000 GR Cash and BDT 100000 house building grant are in stock.

Beside that 2500 hectr of seed bed of Mirshorai upazila inundated. There is no rain now. Situation improved as water receded.

37.800 M.T GR Rice and BDT 122500.00 GR Cash have been distributed to the affected people. 230.00 M.T GR Rice and BDT 525000 GR Cash are in stock.

Sirajganj DRRO informed that, decreasing a little the Jamuna is now flowing below danger level. 5 upazilas and some low laying areas adjacent to the Jamuna were flooded as the water level of the river rose due to recent heavy downpour. 349 families are affected in river erosion in . Flood situation has been improved as presently there is no rainfall.

DC office has allocated 42.89 MT GR rice for distribution among those who are affected from flood and river erosion in Kazipur, Shahzadpur, Belkuchi and Sadar upazila.

Pabna 101 houses are damaged in Iswardi of Pabna due to heavy rainfall and river erosion. River is following below danger level. DRRO has informed that the flood situation is normal.

DC office distributed 2 MT rice among affected people and has stock of 75 MT GR rice, BDT 58,000 GR cash and BDT 80,000 for house building grant.

Rajbari 3,000 thatched houses fully and 20,000 houses partially damaged in 3 pouroshabhas and 5 upazilas due to recent excessive rainfall. 13,886 hector crop land submerged with water. There is no rain at present but the river is flowing above danger level. Flood situation of the district remains unchanged.

DC office has allocated of 31 MT GR rice for distribution among affected people. 39.130 MT GR rice, BDT 64,000 GR cash and BDT 78,000 for house building grant are in stock of district administration.

Bogra Increasing water level in the Jamuna caused inundation in low-lying area of 9 unions in Sariyakandiupazila and 1 union in Dhunat upazila. 115 hectares of cultivable land, 19,250 members of 4350 families have been affected due to water logging and river erosion. 1050 families became water logged. Water is started to recede and the situation is improving.

District administration distributed 4 MT GR rice, 75pcs Sharee and 75pcs Lungi among the affected people of Dhunat Upazilla.

Lalmonirhat 751 families from Hatibanda, Kaliganj, Aditmari and Sadar upazila have been affected by river erosion resulting from water level increase in the river.

Distribution: 35 MT GR rice has been distributed among the victims. Current Stock: GR Rice-40 MT, GR Cash-2,00,000Tk and House Building Grant-1,00,000 Tk.

Thhakurgaon Low lying areas of many places of have been water logged due to heavy rainfall and Muden houses of the poor people were severely damaged. 1000 houses were damaged in the pourashava and its adjacent low lying area. 10.00 MT GR Rice have been distributed among affected people. Shariatpur 557 families have been affected by river erosion in nariaupazila of Sariatpur district. 6.570MT rice was distributed among sufferers.

Kurigram Low laying areas of all upazilas were inundated due to recent heavy rainfall, torrential mountain streams and onrush of water from upstream that caused damage of 1586 hectares of crop land as well as thatched houses of poor inhabitants. Continuous rainfall has been stopped and overall situation is improving.

DC office has allocated 90.0 MT GR rice and BDT 30,000 GR cash for distribution among affected people.

The district administration has of 10 MT GR rice and 1,70,000 GR cash in stock.

Cox’s Bazar It is informed by the DRRO office that there is no rainfall now and flood situation improved.

85 ton GR Rice, 60 sacks flatten rice and 700 kg molasses have been distributed among affected. Beside WFP Dhaka Office provided 6.00 MT fortified biscuits for distribution among 2000 families (3.0 kg each family) of Chokoria upazila, Cox’s bazar.

Bandarban Low lying areas of Bandarban Sadar Upazila have been inundated due to onrush upstream water and heavy rainfall of last few days. People from these areas took shelter on 13 shelter center but they returned home now as situation improved. Beside few thatched house have been affected.

Manikganj River erosion occurred in the adjacent areas of the Jamuna and the Kaliganga due to rise of water level. This affected 3,300 families.
