Annual Report – 2018 Annual Report – 2018 University of Ruhuna Vision and Mission of the University of Ruhuna Our Vision To be the prime intellectual thrust of the nation. Our Mission To advance knowledge and skills through teaching, research and services to serve the society. i Message of the Vice-Chancellor The year 2018 was a remarkable year for the University of Ruhuna, as we proudly celebrated the 40th Anniversary which holds a legacy of competence and success. University of Ruhuna has always committed to develop a fraternity of competent professionals of international standards and caliber who are innovative, analytical and independent while reaching its goals through improving the quality and relevance of its educational and research programmes. We have updated and newly introduced the certain degree programmes in 2018, to meet the challenge of grooming professionals and making them industry ready by equipping them with the required technical and soft skills. Faculties of Agriculture, Engineering, Management and Finance and Science organized international symposia which expedited apart from the basic and technically sound curriculum various extracurricular activities where they could savor the tenderized national and international research community. Our University initiates and maintains global partnerships for student exchange programmes with selected universities which would be a good practice internationally where the students also get a chance to study abroad. Besides being academics we offer the best facilities for extracurricular activities that provide you with opportunities to develop your talent and skills to full potential and imbibe values that you will need for life with all supporting units of the University including Centre for International Affairs, Medical Center, Career Guidance Unit, Center for Modern Languages and Civilization, Physical Education Unit, General Administration and Legal and Documentation Division. This year, the General Convocation was held for the first time at the Rabindranath Tagore Memorial Auditorium of the University and the Annual Academic Sessions and the Vice Chancellor’s Award Ceremony were held there as scheduled. The University has provided a vibrant and positive ambience for our students though some of the significant physical progress among many others to facilitate them; the Rabindranath Tagore Memorial Auditorium, The China Sri Lanka Joint Center for Education & Research, the three storied building for the Administration, Art Auditorium with well- equipped theatre facility and the two storied building of library. As a leading national university of Sri Lanka, University of Ruhuna strives to provide the best learning environment in order to achieve international standards. The university has already started on a radical shake up in various fields to keep pace with rapid changes in society and the labor market which needs national graduates capable of taking responsibility. My every endeavor thus far channelized all my energy in making the vision and mission of this University turn into a reality. My best wishes to all for a challenging and fruitful journey of academic excellence and creativity.
