  • Music Impressions Comedy
Music Impressions Comedy Legends & Laughter Legends & Laughter is a musical journey through Jimmy’s favorite songs by a wide variety of performers from classic artists to today's contemporary performers hot off the Las Vegas Strip. Jimmy’s high energy and enthusiasm is tempered only by his ultra smooth vocals as he creates his impressions of Rod Stewart, Joe Cocker, The Beatles, Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdinck, The Temptations, Tony Orlando, Prince, Bobby Darin, Michael Jackson, Barry White, The Bee Gees and David Bowie. Jimmy adds the crooner voices of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Nat King Cole, then quickly moves on to glide thru the voices of Tony Bennett, Frankie Valli, Lou Rawls, and Neil Diamond and many more. A quick patriotic tune salutes our veterans, then it's on to “The King”, Elvis Presley with a very amusing parody. Jimmy keeps on moving as he belts out the hits and covers many more greats including Billy Joel, Michael Buble’, Elton John, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Garth Brooks, Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong, Jimmy Durante, Blake Shelton, Stevie Wonder, and "The Boss,” Bruce Springsteen. Laughter abounds as Jimmy captures the voices of Ed Sullivan, Jackie Mason, Sylvester Stallone, John Wayne and Arnold Shwarzenegger, just to name a few. In typical Jimmy Mazz style, there's always a few surprises thrown in for good measure. Never the same show twice! Experience Jimmy Mazz With 40 plus years of entertainment experience and as a Headliner at The Superstar Theater at the Resorts Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, Jimmy Mazz truly understands how to entertain an audience.

  • Metaphors of Love in 1946–2016 Billboard Year-End Number-One Songs
Text&Talk 2021; 41(4): 469–491 Salvador Climent* and Marta Coll-Florit All you need is love: metaphors of love in 1946–2016 Billboard year-end number-one songs https://doi.org/10.1515/text-2019-0209 Received June 25, 2019; accepted September 19, 2020; published online October 26, 2020 Abstract: This study examines the use of metaphors, metonymies and meta- phorical similes for love in a corpus of 52 year-end number one hit songs in the USA from 1946 to 2016 according to Billboard charts. The analysis is performed within the framework of Conceptual Metaphor Theory and from quantitative and quali- tative perspectives. Our findings indicate that the theme of romantic love is prevalent in US mainstream pop music over the course of seven decades but shows evolutionary features. Metaphors of love evolve from conventional to novel with a notable increase in both heartbreak and erotic metaphors. Remarkably, the study finds that the two predominant conceptualizations of love in pop songs – which in a significant number of cases overlap – are the following: experiential, originating in the physical proximity of the lovers, and cultural, reflecting possession by one lover and showing a non-egalitarian type of love. Keywords: Conceptual Metaphor Theory; corpus linguistics; metaphor; pop music; romantic love 1 Introduction The central theme of a large number of pop songs is some facet of romantic love. Starr and Waterman (2003: 105–110, 199–200) noted this to be already the case in the Tin Pan Alley era in the USA of the 1920s and 1930s and the trend continued through the 1940s and 1950s, when the entertainment industry grew exponen- tially: “total annual record sales in the United States rose from $191 million in 1951 to $514 million in 1959” (Starr and Waterman 2003: 252).

  • The Biggest Hits of All: the Hot 100'S All-Time Top 100 Songs
The Biggest Hits of All: The Hot 100's All-Time Top 100 Songs billboard.com/articles/news/hot-100-turns-60/8468142/hot-100-all-time-biggest-hits-songs-list Adele, Rihanna, Ed Sheeran, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Elton John, Chubby Checker, Mariah Carey, Shania Twain & Whitney Houston Getty Images; Photo Illustration by Quinton McMillan As part of Billboard's celebration of the 60th anniversary of our Hot 100 chart this week, we're taking a deeper look at some of the biggest artists and singles in the chart's history. Here, we revisit the ranking's 100 biggest hits of all-time. On Aug. 4 1958, Billboard launched the Hot 100, forever changing pop music -- or at least how it's measured. Sixty years later, the chart remains the gold-standard ranking of America's top songs each week. And while what goes into a hit has changed (bye, bye jukebox play; hello, streaming!), attaining a spot on the list -- or better yet, a coveted No. 1 -- i s still the benchmark to which artists explore, from Ricky Nelson on the first to Drake on the latest. Which brings us to the hottest-of-the-hot list the 100 most massive smashes over the charts six decades. 1/10 1. The Twist - 1960 Chubby Checker The only song to rule the Billboard Hot 100 in separate release cycles (one week in 1960, two in 1962), thanks to adults catching on to the song and its namesake dance after younger audiences popularized them. 2. Smooth - 1999 Santana Feat. Rob Thomas 3.
