The Lannisters hold absolute dominion over King’s Landing after repelling Stannis Baratheon’s forces, yet Robb Stark –King of the North– still controls much of the South, having yet to lose a battle. In the Far North, Mance Rayder (new character portrayed by Ciaran Hinds) has united the wildlings into the largest army Westeros has ever seen. Only the Night’s Watch stands between him and the Seven Kingdoms. Across the Narrow Sea, Daenerys Targaryen – reunited with her three growing dragons – ventures into Slaver’s Bay in search of ships to take her home and allies to conquer it.

By performing a textual analysis, this thesis explores how Westworld as a series makes use of the casual and hardcore player stereotype, looking at the way the series explores the construction of player categories and how it ties these to the dialogue about violence and immoral behaviour in video games. SYNOPSIS Martha and Sean Carson (Vanessa Kirby, Shia LaBeouf) are a Boston couple on the verge of parenthood whose lives change irrevocably during a home birth at the hands of a flustered midwife (Molly Parker), who faces charges of criminal negligence. Thus begins a year-long odyssey for Martha, who must navigate her grief while working through fractious relationships with her husband and her domineering mother (Ellen Burstyn), along with the publicly vilified midwife whom she must face in court. The drama series tells the compelling story of David Collins (Lee Ingleby) who is living a nightmare. Convicted of murdering his wife Tara, David has served seven years in prison. He’s lost everything he held dear: his wife, his two children and even the house he owned. He’s always protested his innocence and faces the rest of his life behind bars. His situation couldn’t be more desperate. Despised by his wife’s family and friends, his only support has been his faithful brother Phil (Daniel Ryan) who has stood by him, sacrificing his own career and livelihood to mount a tireless campaign to prove his brother’s innocence. Convinced of his guilt, Tara’s childless sister Alice (Hermione Norris) and her husband Rob (Adrian Rowlins) are now parents to David’s children. They’ve become a successful family unit and thanks to the proceeds of David’s estate enjoy a comfortable lifestyle, which is very different to when Tara was alive.

Armelle Parey Introduction 1 The figure of Inspector Morse first appeared in a novel by Colin Dexter, Last Bus to Woodstock, in 1975. By the time the character reached the TV screen in 1987, impersonated by John Thaw (in The Dead of Jericho), Colin Dexter (1930-2017) had already published 7 of the 12 novels he wrote in total around the figure of the grumpy opera- loving inspector. The TV adaptation, Inspector Morse, consisted in 33 films, broadcast in series or as “specials”, aired on ITV between 1987 and 2000, finishing with the adaptation of The Last Remorseful Day (1999) in which the character dies1. Following the death of John Thaw in 2002, Dexter stipulated in a clause in his will that no other actor should reprise the role2.
