  • Smullen: Humbled by Racing=S Support
WEDNESDAY, 11 SEPTEMBER 2019 SMULLEN: HUMBLED BY FIRST ,50,000 SALE BENCHMARKS AUCTION'S PROGRESS by Chris McGrath RACING=S SUPPORT ASCOT, UK--Which would you rather have: the colt who topped the opening session at Keeneland the previous day, or all 127 animals who found a new home at Ascot yesterday? You could have corralled the whole herd of them for less. But the beauty with Thoroughbreds, of course, is that each and every individual that changed hands at the Tattersalls Ascot Yearling Sale--for an aggregate ,1,356,850, up 24% in only the third year of the auction--retains the right to prove their relative valuation all wrong, once broken and sent in training. After all, that's exactly what happened with several graduates of last year's sale. Besides the four fillies who have won listed races, they also included a ,28,000 colt beaten just a neck in the G2 Norfolk S. over the road at the Royal meeting; and, one of the fairytales of the season, the ,3,000 filly Bettys Hope (GB) (Anjaal {GB}), who completed a hat-trick for Rod Millman when scooping a ,122,925 pot in the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury in July. • BBC Public Complaints Responses 2016.Pdf
Archived BBC public responses to complaints 2016 BBC News, Coverage of the death of David Bowie, 12 January 2016 Complaint We received complaints from viewers and listeners who felt there was too much coverage of David Bowie’s death during BBC News programmes and bulletins. Response from BBC News David Bowie was by common consent one of our greatest pop stars who attracted a global following. He appealed across the ages and was one of the most influential musicians of his time. His death was both sudden and unexpected, his illness not revealed to anyone but a tight circle of friends. Our coverage tried to reflect his stature as a musician whose capacity for invention changed the shape of the industry, and the shock at his death around the world. Question Time, BBC One, 14 January 2016 Complaint We received complaints from viewers who felt the panel had a right wing bias. Response from Question Time Over the course of a series Question Time aims to achieve balance and hear from a range of voices. Each programme usually consists of one senior politician from both the Labour and Conservative party, as well as representatives from other political parties. The rest of the panel is made of political commentators, journalists, and other public figures that add a different perspective and represent a range of viewpoints across the series. We also aim to ensure that each episode has a divergent and broad range of views from the panel on the likely topics that our audience wish to raise. David Dimbleby moderates the debate to ensure panellists are given the opportunity to make their views known in a fair way.

What has been the biggest changes in society? All of us will remember 2020 as the year our lives were turned upside down by Covid-19. It’s hard to overestimate the impact that had on not just our physical health and our daily lives, but also on our mental health, with rates of depression doubling during the first six months of lockdown. The Black Lives Matter movement also stands out, shining a light on the systemic issues facing Black people and people of colour around the world. And of course, climate change is ever-present. 2020 showed that we can all mobilise to change. What impact have these issues had on ITV and its Social Purpose? I think it shows that purpose-driven business is more important than ever before.

Building on previous theories of banter, I suggest that the composite nature of the phenomenon can usefully be analysed within an interactional pragmatic model, such as that proposed by Lecercle (1999). Using this model to analyse various episodes of Pointless, I seek to demonstrate that banter is created within a dynamic interpersonal process.
