Sail away like Max from Maurice Sendak’s wonderful story Where the Wild Things Are by making these fun sailing boat collages.

What you need

™ A4 paper ™ Scissors ™ Scraps of wrapping paper ™ Glue ™ Paint or crayons

How you do it

This is your creation so you choose how you want to design your boats. The following is an example of what you can do:

™ Cut out your sailboats and sails, trying to make sure that one sail is bigger than the other. ™ Paint the sky first by starting with a layer of a light colour like yellow. Without washing your brush, mix some yellow and red together and paint over the top of the yellow. ™ Paint the sea by using a mixture of blue and green. PS. For greater effect, don’t mix the colours very well. While the sea is still wet, use a plastic fork (or table fork if you’re allowed!) to create the waves. ™ When the background is dry, glue on your sailing boats. ™ When you have finished your creation you could scan it or take a photo and upload it to the Summer Reading Club website E-gallery.

Fantastic!
