Ramsey Free Public Library Code Policy (For public)

Policy Statement The dress and manner of employees contributes to the overall impression the Library makes in the community. The Ramsey Free Public Library aims to provide a welcoming, approachable and professional atmosphere to all members of the public.

General Regulations

1. Employees should dress in a businesslike manner suitable to their position and as outlined in

the Dress Code guidelines.

2. Name tags should be worn at all times when in public areas.

3. Employees are expected to be appropriately groomed and to practice daily personal hygiene.

4. Cologne and perfume should be used sparingly.

5. The Library Director may periodically designate special days when the Dress Code guidelines

may be waived.

6. Fridays at the library shall be considered days when casual attire is permissible for staff. Jeans

and more comfortable will be permitted, as laid out in the Dress Code Guidelines, to

create a comfortable atmosphere on Fridays.

7. The Library Director may also announce other days where casual dress is permissible, or

themed clothing relating to library programs, services or libraries and reading.

General Dress Code Guidelines (For Library Staff) ​ Good grooming and appropriate attire are positive reflections on employees, their work, and the Library itself. Library employees must strive to look professional, approachable and efficient.

1. Employees should follow a “” style of dress.

1. Examples of appropriate clothing include: 1. Pant and skirt 2. Jackets / Sport coat or blazer 3. and skirts 4. Sweaters and sweater sets, Cardigans and knit jackets 5. Vests 6. Blouses and tops, short or long sleeve, or sleeveless, but not with spaghetti straps or tank tops 7. Sweaters, mock, and turtlenecks 8. Shirts with collars and polo shirts, short or long sleeve, with our without tie 9. Khaki, wool, linen, corduroy, blend slacks/pants

1. Footwear and accessories should follow the same guidelines as those for clothing. Dress sandals, with or without hosiery, are acceptable, though casual sandals or flip-flops are not

1. Some clothing options which are not appropriate Library dress: 1. Ripped or frayed clothing 2. Halter or tube tops, spaghetti straps, tank tops 3. Shorts 4. Denim, jeans (except on casual Fridays or when the Director has announced a casual dress day) 5. Casual, unstructured T-Shirts and sweatshirts, especially with messages 6. Muscle shirts 7. Provocative clothing including deep necklines, tight clothing, transparent shirts, or midriff baring tops or pants

1. Questions regarding dress guidelines should be directed to the employee’s immediate . In all cases of uncertainty regarding an outfit’s appropriateness, final discretion is up to the Library Director.

1. Employees who arrive to work dressed inappropriately may be sent home to change into appropriate attire.
