BRIEF HISTORY

Bangour Village Hospital was built in the early 1900’s as the Edinburgh District Asylum by architect Hippolyte Blanc. The hospital was designed as a self-contained community supported by its own amenities on site, including a village shop, church, railway and worker’s accommodation. The use of the hospital diminished upon the opening of the local St John’s Hospital in Livingston in 1989, eventually closing completely in 2004. 5 BANGOUR Village LOCATION
