WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- In a vote of the league’s 10 head coaches, STANFORD senior Jeanette Pohlen was voted the Pac-10 Player of the Year, the fourth-straight Cardinal to win the honor, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today. Commissioner Scott also announced that teammate was honored as the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, while ARIZONA senior wins the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year honor. STANFORD head coach Tara VanDerveer was also selected the John R. Wooden Coach of the Year by her peers, the 11th time in her career she has won the award. The award was renamed in honor of the late UCLA coach, as the Conference dedicated the 2010-11 men’s and women’s basketball campaign to John R. Wooden.

PAC-10 PLAYER OF THE YEAR JEANETTE POHLEN, SR., G, STANFORD Senior Jeanette Pohlen becomes the ninth different Cardinal to be named Pac-10 Player of the Year, earning the honor for the !rst time in her career. A three-time All-Pac-10 selection and three-year starter, Pohlen has been a large part of the Cardinal’s success this season, leading the team to a second-consecutive undefeated regular-season Pac-10 record (18-0) and a 27-2 overall mark. An All-American candidate, she was named to national player of the year preseason watch lists including the State Farm/WBCA Wade Trophy, Naismith Award and John R. Wooden Award. The team’s "oor director, she is averaging a team-high leading 15.8 points per game, while dishing out 4.8 assists. A threat from long range, she is second in the Pac-10 in three-point shooting at .432, also ranking 14th in the country in the category. Her most memorable performance of the season to-date was a career-high 31-point, 9- outing, leading Stanford to an upset of then-No. 1 Connecticut on Dec. 30, snapping the Huskies’ NCAA-record 90-game winning streak. The Pac-10 Player of the Week on Jan. 3, Pohlen’s .908 shooting percentage from the line is tops in the Confer- ence, and her 1.67 -to- ratio is also No. 1. She is tied for second in the league in scoring, ranks third in assists, and second in three-pointers made per game (2.76). Her 252 career threes are !fth all-time on the Pac-10 career list. The 32nd player in Stanford history to score 1,000 points, Pohlen is a Nancy Lieberman Award !nalist, pre- sented to the nation’s top point guard.

PAC-10 FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR CHINEY OGWUMIKE, F, STANFORD Freshman forward Chiney Ogwumike was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year after helping Stanford post an 18-0 Conference record and 27-2 overall mark heading into the league tournament. She is the !rst Cardinal since current teammate Kayla Pedersen in 2008 to win the award and the eighth Cardinal all-time. Ogwumike averages 11.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, .1 rpg behind team-rebounding leader and older sister Nnemkadi. Like her older sister, Chiney is very ef!cient on the offensive end, shooting .567 from the "oor, which also ranks second in he Pac-10 behind Nnemkadi. Chiney has recorded seven double-doubles and 10 double-digit rebounding games. She was the only freshman this year and is the 14th rookie in Pac-10 history to be named All-Pac-10. 2011 Pac-10 Women’s Basketball All-Conference Honors Page 2 PAC-10 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR IFY IBEKWE, SR., F, ARIZONA Senior Ify Ibekwe is the !rst Wildcat in the four-year history of the award to be named Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and has been named to the All-Defensive team for the third-consecutive season. A major force on the glass since arriving at Tucson, Ibekwe is !fth all-time in Pac-10 history with 1,160 rebounds, also ranking 35th all-time with 1,591 career points. This season, she leads the Conference with 12 double-doubles and 13 double-digit rebounding perform- ances. In the !nal regular-season game of the year, she posted 31 points and 15 rebounds in the win over Oregon, en route to earning Pac-10 Player of the Week honors for the second time this season. Leading the Wildcats to their most overall (19) and Pac-10 wins (10) since 2004-05, she ranks third in the Conference in steals per game (2.43) and sec- ond in blocks (1.57), and is the active career leader in both categories, claiming 223 thefts and 163 blocked shots. Currently the only player in the Pac-10 to average a double-double, she is leading the Conference with 16.1 ppg and 10.0 rpg.

JOHN R. WOODEN PAC-10 COACH OF THE YEAR TARA VANDERVEER, STANFORD Leading the Cardinal to a second-straight undefeated Pac-10 season, Tara VanDerveer was voted John R. Wooden Coach of the Year for the 11th time in her 25 years as mentor of the Cardinals. She had guided Stanford to an 11th- consecutive Pac-10 regular-season title and 20th overall. This season, she became only the sixth women’s basketball coach in NCAA history to win 800 games and has been named a !nalist for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. During her time on the Stanford bench, she has mentored nine different Cardinals who have won 15 Pac-10 Player of the Year honors, including this year’s winner Jeanette Pohlen. Her players have also claimed Conference Freshman of the Year award eight times, including the 2010 recipient Chiney Ogwumike’s.The second-ranked team in the nation according to the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll, the team ranks in the top 25 in the nation in 11 different statistical categories, including eight categories in which the Cardinal appear in the top 10. Among those categories, Stanford is third in the nation in scoring margin (+25.5), !eld goal percentage (48.9) and !eld goal percentage defense (32.5), and !fth in scoring offense (79.8).
