FAITH FORMATION / LIFE LONG LEARNING NEWS

RELIGIOUS ED is located in Room 11 of the Family Life Center. Office hours are Monday through Thursday 9:00am-6:00pm when classes are in session, or by appointment. Phone (732) 294-8841 or e-mail: [email protected] or [email protected]. Classes for grades 1-5 take place Monday thru Thursday 4:30-5:45pm, September-April.

RE News – Please Mark Your Calendar For Upcoming Religious Education Events!

2nd Grade First Reconciliation and First Eucharist: After a period of experimentation, the Church has determined that children must be afforded the opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Penance prior to First Eucharist. This is appropriate particularly because Penance celebrates God’s unconditional love and forgiveness, so it is best not to deprive younger children of this wonderful experience with God. Therefore, our 2nd graders will be celebrating First Reconciliation on Sunday, December 8th and our 4th graders will do so during Lent. Next year, the 2nd grade and 4th grade will also celebrate the sacrament so that by 2015-16, the sacrament will be received during 2nd grade exclusively. On December 8th, 2nd graders who are home schooled or come on Mondays will celebrate at 3:00PM and children who come on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday will celebrate at 6:30PM. In order to be as fair as possible when assigning First Eucharist dates and times, there will be a lottery on Sunday, October 27th after the 12:00Noon Mass in Madonna Hall. If you cannot make the lottery, please send someone to represent you. Thanks so much!

Home School Notice: Please remember that Home Study is to be done on an individual basis and not by forming study groups in homes. St. Mary’s cannot be held liable for what happens during unauthorized group instructions in private homes. Additionally, the parish cannot verify that such instruction occurs under the guidance of persons who have had criminal background checks, etc. Thank you so much for your cooperation.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word: We hope to be starting Children’s Liturgy of the Word during Mass as soon as possible; to do so, however, we need a CLOW team! Please call the Faith Formation Office if you think you could be part of such a group. Thank you!
