The RROC Keystone Region Holiday Party, which took place on December 9th, is one of those outstanding social functions when we join with our fellow Keystone Region members and guests to partake in laughter and camaraderie - and to be thankful for the friends we have made at this organization. http://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/render?preview=true&m=1102549439164&ca=0f020eb7-6838-4950-9c63-40d9bec3e1de&id=preview 2/14 12/29/2018 Your Rolls-Royce Club - January 2019 Alerts On behalf of all our members, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Chairman, Thom Weinhardt who oversees all our events and coordinates the essential operations of the Keystone Region, and to Treasurer, Jack Grocki who guards the club's treasury and keeps it safe, Communications Director, Steve Plotkin who is in charge of getting the club's newsletter and other pertinent information to all of us on a timely basis (and permits a cub reporter to have a say), as well as Technical Director, John Palma, who keeps our Rolls-Royce and Bentleys purring along the highway. We are grateful for their leadership throughout the year. They are a major reason why the RROC Keystone Region is such a successful organization. In addition, a big thanks goes to their wives, Lorraine, Kathryn, Marcia and Mary, for being the exceptional support behind these impressive men. Kudos ladies and gentlemen and a heartfelt thanks to all of you for your tireless efforts on behalf of the membership. As in past years, we had a large turnout of 70 attendees. We enjoyed live piano music in the beautiful surroundings of the Kimberton Inn, while dining on an assortment of delicious appetizers and entrees, such as Grilled Tenderloin Beef, Maryland Crab Cakes (I can personally vouch for the fact they were delicious!) and Chèvre Penne Alfredo, not to mention the scrumptious desserts, e.g.: Creme Brûlée, Hot Fudge Sundaes, Chocolate Orange Torte and Pecan Pie with Whipped Cream! No holiday article would be complete without mentioning a few sweet treats! In line with 'sweet treats,' this year the Ladies Choice Trophy was bestowed upon Karl Zoller. The Charles Wolfe Post War Silver Bowl was won by Bob Fulmer. The Pre- War Award went to Louis Mandich. The Cal West Award was taken home by Dick and Amy Cain. The Karl F. Zoller, Jr. Award deservedly went to Steve Plotkin, and the Best Event Award was won by Gene and Marlene Epstein for their Gourmet Event this past Spring. Congratulations to all award winners! We give thanks to all those generous RROC members who contributed magnanimously to this worthy cause. This ends our RROC driving season as we bid 2018 a fond farewell. We look forward to seeing you again in the Spring of 2019! Wishing you all the very best throughout the new year ahead. Tom Hickman drove ...and yes Virginia, if there is a Rolls-Royce or Bentley in your future, it won't fit in your stocking, and probably not in your garage either, but no matter. The important aspect is that you will be driving a gorgeous Rolls-Royce or Bentley - and you'll be smiling the entire time! - Joan Imowitz The 2019 National Spring Tour - April 28 to May 3, 2019 The 2019 national Spring Tour will be held in the southeast part of Chesapeake Region. Phil and Sue Brooks will be hosting the tour based in Williamsburg, VA from April 28 to May 3. While Williamsburg will be the hub location we will not be visiting Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, or Yorktown. However tour participants may arrive a couple of days early or stay over a couple of days at the end if they wish to take in the "Historic Triangle". This will be a hub tour where we stay at the same hotel for the week and each day go out to different attractions. We will visit a couple of plantations, a native American reservation, a car collection, and a fort from the early 1800s, and we will drive a race track (at less than hair- raising speeds!) It will be back roads driving for almost the entire week. There will be an opening and closing dinner and group lunches each day. Other dinners are on your own. Registration forms will be available early in the New Year and registrations will all be done through Club HQ. This will be an inexpensive tour with a low registration fee and very reasonable hotel rates. There will be a limit of 30 cars and approximately 60 people. • History of Major Automotive Developments 1920-1940
History of Major Automotive Developments 1920-1940 - The main components of the cars were well designed and efficient, and a variety of accessories were introduced, such as reversing lights, radios, automatic chokes, windshield wipers, and chrome-plated trim. Since World War II, most commercial vehicles are fitted with the magnetic speedometer, which was originally developed in the 1920s. Tires, until the 1920s, were of narrow cross-section and ran at relatively high air pressures. As technology improved tires and they were made wider, they operated at lower pressures. The tire alone would not provide much comfort, however. Between the wheel and the body of the car it is necessary to have springs. Some carriages had had the body suspended by straps from the chassis ends, but the semi-elliptical multi-leaf spring was an early development. Leaf springs are still widely used on cars, especially on the rear axles. Early "shocks" were of the friction type, often consisting of a simple pivoted arm attached to the axle so that its movement turned friction discs like a clutch. Between WWI and WWII, several very high quality cars were built, and some of these represented such an exceptionally high standard of craftsmanship and durability that, owing to changing economic circumstances, it is unlikely that cars of comparable quality will ever be built again. These include such classics as the Bugatti "Royale," Hispano-Suiza, Rolls- Royce "Phantom III," Bentley 8 litre, and the Delage. In America the trend was to power and luxury, while European manufacturers concentrated on small, low-priced cars like the Austin 7 in England, and the Italian Fiat 500.

  • Steve Says This $230K Bentley Bentayga SUV Is a “Best
Steve Says This $230K Bentley Bentayga SUV Is A “Best Seller” It’s hard to believe that the Bentayga’s been with us for 5 years already. And it’s certainly been a trailblazer. During that time Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini and Aston Martin have also brought ultra-luxurious SUVs to market with more on the way. Available with 6-, 8- or 12–cylinder power including a plug-in hybrid, this is the Bentley Bentayga V8. The Volkswagen Group sells 4 SUVs under 4 different brands built upon the same platform sharing 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 engines; the Audi SQ7, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, Lamborghini Urus and this Bentley Bentayga. With a starting price of near $170,000, the Bentayga is Bentley’s most affordable and subsequently best-selling model, tallying about 110 U.S. deliveries per month. I see lease specials out there for about $2,600. For some perspective, that’s the equivalent of leasing 12 Tiguans. Now, I’m a little late to the Bentayga game as Bentley recently revealed the updated 2021 model. But that’s OK, I’ll get to that one soon enough and this 2020 version is fundamentally the same vehicle and there are plenty of them still to be had.
