Jinshiryuu Acidface Fleshtuxedo Dances With Squats Thorisian -1- INTRODUCTION WELCOME FELLOW , TO CODEX:SQUATS! This is an unofficial codex for the Warhammer 40,000 Tabletop Wargame. This codex was made just because I felt that many of the gamers that played Squats during the game's early editions were treated unfair when GW decided to stop producing Squat models and even took them out of their background. Now Squat players can finally rejoice as they can start converting models and build their own Great League of Squats. WHY COLLECT SQUATS? Squats are the ultimate archetype of defenders in Warhammer 40,000. They are(like the Dwarfs in WHFB)a race that lives in or close to a mountain or stronghold. Therefore they can fight on their own terrain, and own terms and know how to use their advantages wisely to fight off all invaders. They are slow, but no other race in Warhammer 40,000 can defend an objective, or table side as good as the Squats. I hope this Codex is a reason for players to come back to the joy of playing Squats in Warhammer 40,000.You will find conversion tips at the end of this rather epic tome. Hope y'all like this Codex and cya soon, THE_EMPERORS_RENEGADE 2009 -3- THE SQUATS HISTORY No one can say for sure when exactly the Ancient Squats started their war-ridden and dark existence. But they must have evolved at the same time as mankind. They have many humanoid features, but they are small, stocky and thick skinned. They resemble the abhuman species of Ratlings a lot. The Squat's ancestors(from now on referred to as Ancient Squats), which were more human than the few remaining Squats today, colonized worlds around the Galactic Core of the galaxy long before the Imperium Of Man started to exist. The main part of their race, however stayed on Terra, and became completely humanoid over the generations. COLONIZATION AND MINING WORLDS As the minerals on Terra started to deplete, elders of both the human and the Ancient Squats met to discuss what had to be done to ensure the survival of their races. After long years of arguing and the outbreak of riots, the Ancient Squats agreed to send expeditions of settlers and miners to the outer worlds of the Galactic Core, which were known to be rich on minerals. So the expeditions were send to these planets, and long years passed before the Ancient Squats found the first sign of them. It was some 60 years after the first settlers started their journey, that the first planets were on the radar. They were black and sinister planets, their atmosphere thin and cold storms blasted over their surfaces. Barren in life, but rich in minerals, they were unsuited for normal colonization, but perfect for mining. The Ancient Squat settlers were forced to build underground cities, due to the extreme conditions on the Core Planets. They grew a special kind of algae and it acted as their main food supply. Minerals were sent to Terra and it wasn't before long that a network of planets existed, to send supplies to Core Worlds and to send minerals to Terra.(see Fig.1 on the following page) ORIGINS : Some say the Ancient Squats' true history began during those times of trade and prosperity, where Mankind and Ancient Squats worked together to forge an empire of peace, where everyone had food and a place to live, where two races worked together to achieve all their goals. Others say their history began during the isolation of their homeworlds from Terra during the long Age Of Strive, or “The Age Of Isolation” but both theories are not very accurate and probably not true. The true history of the Ancient Squats will probably never never be revealed -5- Fig 1.Key: blue planet= Terra grey planets= Core Worlds(Homeworlds) brown lines= mineral supply purple lines= food supply SIMPLIFIED/NOT TO SCALE! -6- THE IMPERIUM AND THE SQUATS : The first encounters with the race of the Squats after the long years of the Age Of Strive, were overshadowed by war. The humans and Squat did not recognize each other as old trading allies and even as being the same race, long, long ago. The humans saw a new enemy in this stubborn race, and since the Imperial forces were eager to conquer new planets, war was inevitable. The Mk III Iron Power Armour was put into production, used for cave and tunnel fighting. After the war had ended, mainly because of astronomical losses on both sides, pacts of peace were signed by both sides. The Homeworlds were integrated into the Imperium, although the Squats were given a high level of autonomy. Both races became trading partners once again, and the Squats even helped the Imperium to conquer new worlds, in exchange for new technology. Fig II. A Squat Engineer repairing an overheated plasmagun, a new weapon in the arsenal of the Squats after the war against the Imperium. SQUAT TECHNOLOGY : The origins of Squat and human technologies are the same(after all they were one race a long time ago). The basic laser and bolt technologies are found in both Squat and human weaponries. However, Squats developed many weapons and support systems of their own, many of them used for mining and digging the tunnels of their worlds. Boltgun Lasgun Many of the Squat based technologies are a mystery, even today. The Squats are the only race to have created Neo-Plasma based weapons. Neo-Plasma is a relatively harmless type of plasma, and weapons powered by it don't overheat like normal plasma weapons do. The Squats own many gigantic fighting machines such as the Cyclops Super Heavy Mobile Fortress (CSHMF) The Leviathan Super Heavy Mobile Fortress(LSHMF) And the Colossus Super Heavy Troop Carrier(CSHTC) SQUATS AND ALIEN RACES : .
