Jeff Maggert on the difference between the PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions: “I had a great career, and it’s different now. I think the difference is, when you’re younger, we’re all out here trying to prove things to ourselves and now, it’s more like there’s not a lot left to prove. I’d like to play well here tomorrow, but just going to enjoy the day and really looking forward to this week to jump- start my summer because like I said, I was a little inconsistent earlier in the year, and I felt like I really needed a good week here to get things moving into the summer, and we’re going to have a really full schedule over the next two months so looking forward to that, and obviously, when you’re playing well, even more.” Jesper Parnevik (69-68—137/-7) One of two players along with Jeff Maggert to post back-to-back rounds in the 60s. Is six-under-par on the par-5s through two rounds Finished T48 here a year ago in his lone appearance in this event. Is seeking his first win on PGA TOUR Champions in his 23rd career start. Best career finish has been a T3 at the 2016 Chubb Classic. Owns five PGA TOUR wins and four on the European Tour. His last win on the PGA TOUR came at the 2001 Honda Classic. A native of Stockholm, Sweden, he now resides in Florida. Jesper Parnevik on being in contention again: “It's great to feel the butterflies come, you know, alive. All of a sudden, you go ‘Oh, I have to focus on these shots.’ It's different, and, you know, it's going to be. It's going to be fun tomorrow, just to be able to have a chance to win and so, I mean, it's been a while. These guys, I mean, they are all very good players, so I have to play very well tomorrow, which I'm looking forward to. I just am happy to have the chance to win.” Round Two Notes: The 36-hole total (7-under-par) for co-leaders Jeff Maggert and Jesper Parnevik is the highest total after two rounds in this event. The previous high was 8-under-par 136 by Gene Sauers in 2013. The last time Jesper Pernevik led or shared a lead heading into the final round in a TOUR event was at the 2007 Valero Texas Open where he led Mathias Gronberg by three strokes. He eventually lost in a three-hole playoff with Justin Leonard in San Antonio. Should Jeff Maggert prevail on Sunday, he’d be the first player on PGA TOUR Champions to win in his hometown since Fred Couples won the 2014 Toshiba Classic in Newport Beach. In the previous 12 events, six have been won by the second-round leader/co-leaders. The last to do so was Bernhard Langer in 2014. So far in 2016, three of seven events have been won by the 36-hole leader on PGA TOUR Champions. Only one player in tournament history has been outside the top 10 after 36 holes and gone on to win the tournament. That was Larry Nelson, who was T14 after two rounds in the inaugural event in 2004. There have been three playoffs in the history of the tournament. The first was in 2004 when Larry Nelson came from seven strokes back and made a five-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole to defeat Hale Irwin. In 2013, Esteban Toledo also came from seven back and then defeated Gene Sauers and Mike Goodes in a three-hole playoff to win. The third was a year ago when Ian Woosnam drained a 30- foot birdie putt to defeat Tom Lehman and Kenny Perry on the first extra hole. Michael Allen, who teamed with Woody Austin to claim the Champions Division title at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf, is just two strokes back as he seeks his second win of 2016. In support of Breast Cancer Awareness, volunteers and tournament staff will be wearing pink shirts tomorrow to support the cause and pink flags and pink flagsticks will be used on each of the holes. The tournament is again a partner with the Houston affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and fans coming to the tournament are encouraged to wear pink. In the 3M Greats of Golf Challenge, the trio of Ben Crenshaw, Hale Irwin and Dave Stockton prevailed in the 18-hole scramble event with a score of 10-under-par. The teams of Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino and Gary Player and Tony Jacklin, Tom Weiskopf and David Graham finished tied for second at 7-under- par. Peter Jacobsen withdrew prior to the start of the second round with an Achilles injury and Brian Henninger withdrew during his round due to illness. Hole No. 17 was the most difficult on Saturday with an average score of 4.377 (+.377). The field average was 72.857, an improvement from Friday’s average of 73.144. There were 14 rounds in the 60s on Saturday compared to 11 on Friday and 28 players finished below par, one more than in the opening round.
