1. Introduction: Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle! Calling all adult Military and non-Military Eagle Scouts residing in Germany. Join us on Saturday, May 4th from 1200 to 1600 at the Sembach Kaserne during the Barbarossa District's Eagle Merit Badge Campout. B.S.A Scouts from all over Germany and other parts of Europe will be camping for the weekend and working on Eagle Scout rank required badges. We invite you to join us to see the action, have some fellowship, reflect on your scouting adventures, and discover what American Scouting in Germany is all about.

a. Uniform: Dress is casual and prepared for the outdoor environment. Scout Uniform is optional but not required. For attending military dignitaries, their uniform of the day is suitable but also not required. Veterans are also welcome to wear their veteran organization cap (i.e. American Legion, V.F.W. and etc.).

b. What to bring –appropriate outdoor clothing and an optional coffee mug and fold up portable camp chair.

2. Event Registration

a. Pre-Registration Only – Registration can be made via the Transatlantic Council website: https://scoutingevent.com/802-NESAMBUgathering .

b. Cost – The registration fee will facilitate covering the administrative support costs of hosting the event.

c. Base Access Required – Sembach Kaserne is a U.S. military facility and has controlled access in order to gain entry.

d. Non Military Personnel Access – For those individuals that do not have access, they will need to pre- register and provide passport information via the Sembach Kaserne Non-Military Access form and email it to [email protected] to get on the authorized list. You will need to present your passport to the gate officer to gain admittance. If you are not on the pre-registration list, you will not be granted access to the base. Please see appendix B.

3. NESA MAG patches and Challenge Coins: You will have an opportunity to pre-order these when you register. A limited amount would be available for purchase at the camp cantina. See Appendix D for pictures.

4. Getting There.- See Appendix A. for Map

a. Arrival Procedures– After clearing the front gate proceed to the Scout Hut (See Appendix A.) Check in at Scout Hut. Alumni should plan on arriving between 12:00 and 12:30 on Saturday, May 4, 2019 and depart after the closing around 16:00. Once you arrive at the Scout Hut, you’ll be given directions to the Alumni Hall.

b. Parking – The campground is a sports field and, as such, is almost a hectare in size and completely flat. It also has an adequate amount of parking at the top of the hill. It is only a short distance to the campground where Alumni Hall will be located. Driving onto the “field” is not permitted. Only authorized emergency vehicles will be allowed on or near the campground.

6. Camping – Camping is only authorized by BSA registered members. Current members can register with their units at https://scoutingevent.com/802-BarbarossaEagleMBU by Friday, April 19th. This is in compliance with BSA youth protection policies and military security protocols. If you are interested in becoming a registered B.S.A. member, please contact our District Alumni Chair Trey Jaeger ([email protected]).

7. Merit Badge Counselors: As this is being held at our Merit Badge University event, we welcome registered Merit Badge Counselors to assist in the class sessions. If you would like to become a merit badge counselor, please contact our District Alumni Chair Trey Jaeger ([email protected]).

8. Adult & Youth Eagle Scout Gathering Staff – We will have a couple of host positions available for this event. If you are interested, please reach out to our District Alumni Chair, Trey Jaeger ([email protected]).

9. Departure- Each non-camping participant is expected to leave the campgrounds after the alumni social.

10. Camp Organization and Safety

a. Emergency Contact – The emergency contact number for the camp is the Camp Director – Patrick Thomas (0176) 204-66982.

b. First Aid: The First aid station will be set up within the campground and well be marked with a prominent sign. There will be at least on Camp Medic on site at all times. If assistance is needed, please contact a member of the Camp Staff at the Camp Headquarters (Scout Hut).

c. Medical Forms – Alumni event attendees will not require medical forms. However, those BSA registered members, who will be camping, will need one. See Eagle MBU event guide for details.

d. Fire & Ambulance Service – in the unlikely event that fire or ambulance services are needed, call 112. It is imperative to also send a runner to the Staff HQ immediately so that an emergency call ban be placed and the Camp Director notified immediately so that the Camp Director so that the emergency equipment can be directed to the correct location.

e. Trash your Trash – That means that trash will be on a pack-in & pack-out basis. This means whatever you bring, you take with you. There are no dumpster or trashcans available for waste.

11. Food Service – The Alumni Hall will host coffee, cobbler, fresh fruits, and other delights. You may want to bring a trail lunch if traveling far to get to this event.

b. Barbarossa District: Barbarossa District of the Transatlantic Council encompasses the following areas of Germany: Baumholder, Bitburg, Bonn, Frankfurt, , , Ramstein, Sembach, Spangdahlem, and Wiesbaden. It resembles closely to the typical stateside scouting district with 16 Cub Scout Packs, 20 B.S.A. Scout Troops and 2 Venturing Crews.

c. MBU- Merit Badge University is a bi-annual event hosted by the Transatlantic Council, B.S.A that gives Scouts, ages 11-17, the opportunity to earn merit badges. This Eagle MBU event is focusing on offering all 13 Eagle Scout required merit badges.

d. SAF -The Scouting Alumni & Friends mission is to support alumni of the Boy Scouts of America and help them find purpose through the organization, empower BSA related affinity groups, and attract and retain all those positively impacted by the Boy Scouts of America.

e. NESA – The National Eagle Scout Association allows Eagle Scout alumni to continue to stay in touch with BSA programs, hear positive stories about the BSA’s impact on the community, and learn the latest methods provided by Scouting to transform the lives of young men & women through the tenets of leadership, character development, citizenship, and physical fitness. NESA is also an outlet for alumni to network and collaborate with one another under the common banner of Scouting, which may include increasing business connections and participating in service to the BSA or other organizations.

f. MAG- Military Affinity Group is a new affiliate network of the National Eagle Scout Association that focuses on Eagle Scout alumni that share the common background of serving our nation in the armed services.
