How Three Rivers District Council makes decisions

How does the system of local government work in Three Rivers?

The Council, attended by all 48 Councillors, meets six times a year and makes critical decisions such as setting the Budget and appointing a Council Leader.

The Executive Committee, made up of 10 Councillors and led by the Leader of the Council, makes most of the decisions other than those that go to Council.

In addition, Policy and Scrutiny Committees covering areas such as leisure, refuse and recycling, assist the Executive by making recommendations for changes or additions to District Council policy.

The next District elections are in May 2010. One-third of the 48 seats on the District Council will then be up for election. Influence what happens in your local area by exercising your right to vote for the Ward Councillor whose views most match your own.

The election of County Councillors took place on 4 June 2009. Elections of County Councillors take place every four years. Therefore, the next County Council election will take place in 2013.
