Description

Brookdale House occupies a rural location surrounded by open countryside. Formerly a working farmhouse and part of the Grosvenor Estate the property is constructed of brick under a tiled roof and was comprehensively restored in the mid 1990’s since which time the property has been subject to further alterations and improvements.

The house bears the date 1888 and is a fine example of John Douglas architecture in the Victorian building period. The front façade is particularly attractive with decorative brickwork, central and two end gables all with stone copings. There are distinctive barley twist chimney stacks, mullioned and lead light windows and detailed brick sills and headers. Internally Brookdale House has considerable character with high plaster moulded ceilings, period doors, door architraves and fireplaces and of particular note is the pitch pine staircase which extends up to the second floor. On the educational front there is a choice of both private and state schooling nearby including Waverton and primaries, , Kings and Queens in Chester, The Grange at Hartford and Abbeygate College at .

Sporting activities are well catered for with numerous clubs in and around the city including rowing on the river, racing at the Roodee, rugby at Littleton and hockey in Tiverton with the Ramblers. Golf is at neighbouring Eaton, , Delamere, Portal and Chester Curzon.

A turned staircase from the hall serves the first and second floors which in total provide 7 bedrooms and three bathrooms, two of which are en-suite. The layout is adaptable with some of the bedrooms being suitable and indeed most recently used, as further sitting rooms or studies. Further, a store room on the second floor could be converted to a fourth bathroom subject to obtaining any necessary consents.
