School

Message from Mike Hartnell, Headteacher Key Dates for the Autumn Term: Week A We come to the end of what has been a very busy and, at times, difficult school year. Over this year I have found that the staff and Thursday 22nd August GCSE Results Day 10:00am students of Warblington school to be welcoming, enthusiastic, polite Wednesday 4th First Day of the Autumn Term and excited about their futures. Year 11s had their final exam on 22 September Year 7 & 11 Start at 9:30am June, had a very successful Prom on 26 June and we look forward to sharing their successes with them when they open their results on 22 (Year 7 go to the Main Hall, August. Year 11 go to Tutor Rooms) Year 8-10 Start at 11:35am We have had numerous trips and visits this year with a successful trip to the Isle of Wight, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, theatre trips, (Arrive between 11:10am - Geography Field trips, ski trip and so much more! 11:35am, go to Tutor Rooms)

We have also had some firsts for Warblington – welcoming 22 Chinese students to our community to immerse themselves in English culture and education and an incredible sports week – which saw almost half the school take part in an activity outside of their lesson time.

Cinderella was an outstanding performance at Christmas, with so many talented young people involved in that incredible show. The Oscars and the Sports Awards last week went some way to acknowledging those outstanding individual and team performances and were fantastic to be part of

Over the last week we successfully began transition for our new Year 7’s – in what will be the largest year group in the school, and the Dr. Who ‘Welcome to Warblington’ day was also a great experience, with so many Year 5’s joining us.

Our work to improve standards and outcomes for all students continues tirelessly and I would like to thank each and every member of staff for their hard work throughout the year.

From September, we look forward to welcoming the following to join the Warblington team:

Mrs J Devine who is joining the science department. Dr F Lansley who is joining the PE dept and is a member of the senior leadership team. Ms A Woodford-Richens who is joining the History department.

We have to say a sad goodbye to :

Mr N Brown, a special goodbye to Mr Brown who is retiring after 29 years at Warblington! Miss A Jackson who has successfully achieved a deserved promotion to Head of History at Springfield School. Mr R Andrew who is leaving to be Head of PE at Priory School after 18 years at Warblington. Mr R Murland who is leaving the area. Mr R Hobbs who has supported and mentored so many students during his time here.

I wish all of those the very best in the next stages of their adventure.

Finally, September we start the year with our new school uniform, smartening our public image and allowing greater consistency. We will also be introducing our ‘Ready to Learn’ behaviour system, ensuring that every students receives a disruption free education. It has been really interesting seeing the number of pencil cases in the last few weeks, despite the fact we will not be expecting this until September. Full details of both these changes can be found on our website under latest news.

May I take this final opportunity of the academic year to thank you for all your support. I am hoping next year we get more opportunities to speak with you and involve you in the progression of the school. I hope that you all have an enjoyable summer break.

Article 24 Every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food and a clean environment so that children can stay healthy. Richer counties must help poorer countries achieve this.

T: 02392 475480 E: [email protected] W: www.warblington.hants.sch.uk Headteacher: Mike Hartnell Attendance and Absence I would like to inform you that there has been an update in the Hampshire County Council Code of Conduct for Issuing Penalty Notices. Schools were previously advised that a maximum number of two Penalty Notices could be issued per child before the case should be referred to the Attendance Legal Panel. The Code of Conduct now states that if a Penalty Notice has previously been issued (even at a previous school), a second unauthorised absence of 10 sessions out of the last 100, should result in the case being referred straight to the Attendance Legal Panel. Schools in the Warblington Cluster will therefore be applying this guidance from September 2019 to all Leave of Absence requests. Thank you for your support in ensuring that your child has regular attendance at school. Mr Hartnell, Headteacher
